View Full Version : Please do not compare Eric Decker to Ed McCaffrey

Just because he's white! In fact can we refrain from comparing all white receivers to Ed McCaffrey? I remember guys saying it about Kircus, for crying out loud. Somehow Stokley has escaped this idiocy.

The Stokelys of the NFL fit much tidier into the Wes Welker bin (formerly known as the Brandon Stokely bin).

I call it the Tom Waddle bin myself.

In all seriousness, his game does remind me of Eddie. Good size, great hands, mediocre athletic ability, runs great routes, and is fearless in his approach.

He appears to emote quite a bit more than Eddie, but there are some similarities outside of their skin tone.

Not really at all. Ed was a long strider that would out-physical his DB. Decker is much quicker and has faster foot speed. They both catch well in traffic, but different body types entirely.

No, not because he is white. He can go over the middle. He has great hands. He can take punishment and get back up. He appears to have the ability to beat someone deep ... much to the surprise of others. He has awareness of open spaces in the secondary. An above average to very good blocker. Do you need other characteristics similar to Ed.

Why? Do you have a racial problems with white wideouts?

"Did you see the block of Ed McCaffery?! He just totally wiped out Brian Williams!" "You see numer 55? Well, you're gonna watch him disappear in a moment, folks." "Here comes McCaffery...right...now...goodbye! [chuckling] What a block by McCaffery."

He compares to Eddie Mac in nearly every way. Both are tall, have great hands, deceptive speed, and love to block. White has nothing to do with it. Also, Decker would love to be compared to Eddie Mac. When asked what number he wanted in an interview, this is what he said:

ED: I do want to keep 7 in the number, so if I could get 17 or maybe 87 that would be great. I am leaning towards 87, because I idolized Ed Mac growing up and I was picked with the 87th pick... maybe it's a sign!

He went on to say that he emulates his game after Fitz, but the Eddie Mac comparisons will always be there.

Eric Decker does not have deceptive speed. Unless you mean that it's deceptive because white guys are supposed to be slow.

Fitz is a better comparison. Eddie was more of a long strider and Decker has more quickness and cutting ability. Ill admit they both use their hands really well and they both are amazing at making catches in traffic. Decker's ability to high-point the ball is amazing. However saying he's an easy Ed clone is lazy. And I absolutely believe its because he's white. Most of the people saying it are just learning about him.

Remember playing 500 when you were younger? Where one guy chucks a ball into a group of friends and you all try to out jump each other to catch it? Same thing. Basically timing your jump to catch a ball in traffic so that the ball arrives just as you reach your peak, thus ensuring you are above the opponents and are able to make the catch. Its harder than it looks and takes practice especially since have the time you only have a second to look back and locate the ball and you're sprinting.

I find it funny that people will compare some athletes based on their race. And if two athletes look totally different then they can't be compared. During Eddie Royal's rookie season I pointed out that he played a lot like Ed McCaffrey in terms of route running and a number of people said that Royal was short and black while McCaffrey was tall and white. So they couldn't be comparable. Royal uses a lot of double moves and miss direction in his route running, just like McCaffrey. That was my only point. I guess some people couldn't wrap their brains around that one.

Best part of the story is although he got five stitches for that hit, he came back in that game and caught another 6-7 for 88, 1 TD, plus a TD pass.

No, I think people said that because Royal and Ed are nothing alike. Royal plays nothing like him.

Face it. Decker looks like a big slow white dude with good hands and can block and take a hit. If that ain't easy Ed, I don't know what is...

Yep (though neither is exactly "slow").

Point taken Khan, but this description would apply word-for-word to Eddie Mac (though maybe not bulk).

Just because he's white! In fact can we refrain from comparing all white receivers to Ed McCaffrey? I remember guys saying it about Kircus, for crying out loud. Somehow Stokley has escaped this idiocy.Stupid arse thread. He may be a bust, or just as good or better than McCaffrey, but since he hasn't played a game yet, it's only natural to make comparisons based on the film available.

and white DB's of course

I don't even think there are any more of them anyway

oh, they're steered to other positions, like the running backs.

The black/white thing is idiocy, anyway. It's the same bad logic that automatically says white athletes are slow brainiacs, while black athletes are dumb gazelles, despite what the actual numbers say. If Eddie were black, no one would even mention his speed even if he ran a 5.8. If a black player is slow, he's called athletic even if he isn't. Commentators are guilty of this stupidity and force feed it to the public. Don't give me color, give me numbers, reps, and 40 times. The rest is (see filthy reference word).

Yes and Yes.

We drove down the field with time running out and Elam kicked what could have been the game winner. Then Miami came right back and Mare put one through the uprights to win the game with like 32 seconds left. I will always remember this game because two of my close friends are Dolphins fans. I watched this game with one of them in a hotel in Baltimore when we were road tripping up the east coast, and the other one was my first trip to Invesco to see Jay **** the bag 2 years ago.

99 (98 actually) yard INT game was Monday Night November 11, 2002. Not a snow game. Griese was QB. Also the same game where Romo f**ked up Sharpe's elbow. Plummer was the QB in the 2003 Sunday Night snow game against Oakland.

No, not that time. Not sure Griese ever threw a left handed INT. I know he threw the ball backwards once. Plummer and Orton each have a lefty pick, alothough Orton's was a pre-season game, and Plummer actually had a left handed TD toss in the same season.

It was Darius Watts that mightta shouldda, and yes a blocked FG sealed our fate. And I was incorrect, this snow game against Oakland was 2004, not 2003.

Griese tossed a left handed shovel pass into the Fins Dline which was returned for a TD when up 14-7 vs the Fins while trying to run the clock out.

So yes SOB, Plummer, and Jake all have lefty INTS Orton too if you count PS.

That is odd. Add that to the list of things the Broncos do that never work that baffle us: Left handed passes, empty 5 wide sets, runs up the middle when it hasn't worked all <s>game</s> season.
