Except that multiple sources say teams wanted to move up for Tebow as it was.

And who's to say KC wouldn't have taken Beadles instead of Asomoah just now?

We moved around well on day one and positioned ourselves to get good value at our other needs, which we started off by taking the interior OL we had targeted in Beadles.

No and no. Tebow was going the end of the first to someone else if we didn't take him. Beadles has too much talent and versatility to have lasted to #80. Why risk it anyway with so few talented interior OL. I don't get the complaints with Beadles. First, there is whining because no OL are drafted and then, when we take the one we had rated highest, we took him too early.

Only way I'd take Campbell is in the 5th or 6th round. And then I'd convert him into a 5 tech DE.

This. I don't understand the bitching at all about Beadles. A guy that can play every position on the O-line. Likely is a day 1 starter at guard or center. Can make line calls. But, but, but we picked him too high??? whatever...

Mays says he feels betrayed by Pete Carroll

To say that Taylor Mays is motivated is like saying Mike Iupati is kinda big. Asked if he was entering the league with a chip on his shoulder, Mays said the following: "I've probably got the biggest chip on my shoulder out of anybody in the draft."

Some of that chip/resentment/motivation is fueled by his former USC coach and current Seahawks coach, Pete Carroll, who yesterday took a safety in the first round, Texas' Earl Thomas. Asked about that turn of events, there was a pregnant pause. "Um, it was interesting," Mays finally said. "I definitely thought from the relationship we had, the things that he had told me about what I needed to be aware of with the draft process and things that I needed to do, I felt he told me the complete opposite of the actions that he took, which was definitely - it was alarming. ... I understand it's a business. But with it being a business, he needs to be honest. And that's all I was asking for."

Unfortunately for Mays, Earl Thomas is a much more superior safety. Sure Mays has the physical gift set, but the dude is just not a play maker and seems to shy away from contact.

I'm really glad we went with Beadles in the 2nd over this guy.

That is sweet. Dude is smart enough (scored I think a 36 on the wonderlic) and is an academic all-american. This puts Olsen at LG. I wouldn't mind another tackle for backup, but I bet we see another WR/kick returner or RB before going defense.

You mean the young "talent" who either didn't want to be here, put their own on-field achievements over those of the team, or both?

Maybe that is why no one has felt it necessary to hire either of the Goodmans since they where let go over a year ago.

I think they will double dip with one of these WR's. I'd like Ford or Gilyard for special teams, but think Decker or Williams fits more the Gaffney role in our offense.

J.D. Walton
Height: 6-2⅝ | Weight: 300 | 40-Time: 5.15

Official Bio

Strengths:
Good size and bulk --- Tough and physical --- Finisher who plays with a nasty demeanor and has a killer instinct --- Excellent leadership qualities --- Gets a big push in the run game --- Stout at the point of attack --- Mobile with decent range --- Gets to second level --- Can hit a moving target --- Smart with great awareness --- Competitive --- Motor runs non-stop --- Hard worker --- Durable --- Lots of quality experience.

Weaknesses:
Limited athletically --- Not very quick or agile --- Feet aren't nimble and doesn't slide smoothly --- Is not overly powerful --- Won't always jolt defenders with a violent initial punch --- Can be almost too aggressive at times --- Frame might be maxed out --- May not have a lot of upside.

Notes:
"J.D." is short for Justin Daniel --- Was a three-year starter for the Bears and never missed a game --- Garnered 1st Team All-American honors from the Associated Press in 2009 --- Named 2nd Team All-Big 12 in 2009 --- Began his college career at Arizona State, where he redshirted in 2005 --- Sat out the 2006 season as a transfer --- Made regular appearances on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for his performance in the classroom --- Doesn't possess eye-popping physical tools but makes up for it with top-notch intangibles and by doing all the little things --- Good football player and will challenge for a starting job.

You're probably right. We've got more solid depth. McD is doing exactly what he said he wanted to do, increase competition at every position.

This is what I've been telling people for over a year now.

Josh McDaniels isn't a liar or a guy who can't handle complex personalities. He's an honest man who expects the same from his players.

So when Cutler said he wanted to be assured he'd never be traded McDaniels told him the truth, that the team always comes first. A lot of HCs could've lied in the privacy of that conference room and just broke his word if he got a good deal some time down the road. McD didn't take the easy way out.

He told people all the time that he really liked Marshall as a person, but he respected Marshall's desires and did the best he could by him in moving him back to his home state.

Robert Ayers said the Broncos told him he was their guy last year. Tim Tebow said they told him basically the same thing.

McDaniels might be honest to a fault, but he's got a set of principles and he isn't going to deviate from them. Maybe being a good guy really does mean you finish last in the NFL, but Josh and his players are going to put that statement to the test for all to see.

I guess Spencer Larsen and Mario Haggan have a bigger shot at that ILB spot than I thought.

Haggan signed an extension last year and shortly after was named one of the team's defensive captains. He started out of position at OLB, where he rotated with a 1st round pick.

Josh likes Mario. He's a starter on this defense. We didn't want to block Ayers with him playing out of position, so he fixed the problem by getting rid of Andra Davis and letting Haggan go back to his natural position.

Exactly, we're set at D for a couple years, but we'll need some developmental type players to take over for the vets.

That's the beauty of it - for the ones that don't develop, we can draft more NFL-ready players in a couple of years.

Both missed the combine, too. Seriously, I'm looking at all the draft profiles, and they all had Eric Decker going in the 1st round before the combine. The injury hurt his stock. I think we MIGHT have gotten a steal here.

As for a pattern - from my facebook page:

One thing is consistent with all the picks that the Denver Broncos are using this year: they're drafting hard-working, high character, SMART players. The definitive intelligence test for pro football players is the Wonderlic - the average score is 20. Tim Tebow's score of 22 the lowest score of all the players the Broncos have drafted. All the other players scored over 30.

We did draft one defensive player in that draft though.

Didn't take him until the 4th round though.

We don't have a 4th, but lets see where the 5th and 6th go to.

I'm honestly quite happy we haven't gone D yet in this draft. The D guys I'd like haven't been available at our picks for the most part, while great offensive value has been.

I've been worried all week that both Walton and Tennant would be snagged up before the 3rd on us. Turns out we get a versatile interior guy like Beadles in the 2nd and have our pick of Walton and Tennant in the 3rd, taking Walton.

And Decker is just too good a value in the mid/late 3rd to pass up on, given how well he fits our system and template for what we want in a draftee.
