Might as well get one started. We're less than one hour away.

I say the Broncos trade up into the top five with the Dolphin's 2011 second and take Toby Gerhart.

We've got to be going guard in this round -- I'm guessing we stay pat and take Campbell/Saffold/Assamoah/Ducasse (pick one, in that order).

I hope the Broncos pick Vladimir Ducasse in round 2, Matt Tenant in round 3 and Brandon Spikes in round 3.

I hope the Broncos pick Vladimir Ducasse in round 2, Matt Tenant in round 3 and Brandon Spikes in round 3.

Why Tennant over Walton?

Curious b/c Walton seems to be the more physical, stronger, mauling type... plus he is a little bigger, as big as Pouncey though an inch or two shorter.

At least one team took Cowboys WR Dez Bryant off its draft board due to an irregular heartbeat. Other teams aware of issue. #nfldraft

Didn't know where to put this so here works.

If by the end of the draft, we get Tebow, Thomas, and Gerhart, we could double our scoring output from last year. :)

http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/04/23/haynesworth-deal-expected-to-come-down-friday/

NEW YORK — Team and league sources remain convinced that the Redskins will trade DT Albert Haynesworth on Friday, most likely to the Titans for a third-round draft pick.

Despite various denials from multiple teams, the sources said the Redskins are still shopping Haynesworth and have held recent conversations with the Lions, Titans and Vikings.

The Lions’ interest was quelled for good Thursday night after they drafted DT Ndamukong Suh No. 2 overall, but people within the Redskins’ organization still view the Vikings, who have fears about DT Pat Williams’ age and future, and the Titans, with whom Haynesworth spent his career before 2009, as potential landing spots.

The Redskins have hoped to receive more than a third-round pick for Haynesworth, but that has proven difficult, if not impossible. The Titans don’t have a second-round pick, though the Vikings have two.

Haynesworth would be ecstatic about a return to Tennessee, according to league sources, and would be willing to alter his contract to facilitate a deal. He isn’t interested in playing nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme, and that problem will not resolve itself.

The Redskins have accrued several veteran 3-4 linemen in recent weeks and are eager to accumulate a pick Friday, as they don’t pick again until the fourth round Saturday. Haynesworth is seen as their only real trading chip because shipping off Jason Campbell isn’t likely until after teams draft quarterbacks this weekend.

Several executives from other teams don’t anticipate the Redskins receiving more than the 77th overall pick for Haynesworth and also expect him to be traded Friday.

NFLN bringing Shanahan in for a talk in a few minutes.

Broncoman13
04-23-2010, 03:28 PM
Watch for Linval Joseph, DT from East Carolina. He could be a player we look to in round 2.

Also consider that McD is very close with Nick Saban. I expect we'll take a former 'Bama guy at some point in this draft.

What makes you think Spikes will be there the 3rd? Isn't he projected for the 2nd?

He was until he ran the 40 slower than half of the offensive linemen. I doubt he gets called before the end of the 3rd, and that would be getting lucky.

I would love to have any one of Asomoah, Jerry, Spikes, Cody, Joseph, Grankowski, Butler, Gerhart, Walton or Ducasse.

Perfect scenario would be to get Asomoah, a high character/leader type at OG.
Grankowski, who Mayock just said was on the same level as Pettigrew from last year (and I have some knowledge that we were quite high on Pettigrew) but a much better receiver.
Terrence Cody, A little hesitant to even say his name I want him that bad. Would be a tremendous opportunity to bring him along slowly with both Fields and Williams. By the time Williams was ready to all it quits, Cody would be ready to team with Fields to man the middle.

Shanahan says he loved Tebow and Haynesworth will absolutely not be traded.

I'm sure that Shanahan probably considered both Tebow and Bradford, both of whom are the type of player that Shanahan loves.

With the 45th pick, I am targeting:

Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama

Daryl Washington, ILB, TCU

Matt Tennant, C, Boston College (a little high, but I could see it. Would rather have J.D. Walton, C, Baylor in the 3rd round, but could live with this.)

Ben Tate, RB, Auburn

Corey Wootton, DE, Northwestern

Rodger Saffold, OT/OG, Indiana - taken by the Rams.

Vladimir Ducasse, OG, Massachusetts

Zane Beadles

<TABLE class=SLTables1 cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR class=bg0><TD>Overview</TD></TR><TR class=bg2><TD>
Regarded as one of the elite offensive tackles in college football, most professional talent evaluators view Beadles as the ideal guard at the next level. The four-year starter does have past experience at that position, moving from guard to tackle during his sophomore season. The consensus feels that he is the school's best offensive lineman since the Jordan Gross era (1999-2002).
Beadles has been a model of consistency since arriving on Utah's campus. A tough athlete with a high threshold for pain, he's played with injuries that would sideline most (concussion, knee sprain, leg laceration), reluctantly sitting out just one game during his career. He went on to start 50-of-51 contests for the Utes, producing 313 knockdowns/key blocks while coming up with key hits on 45 touchdown drives.
Beadles comes from a sports-oriented extended family. His father, Brad Beadles, played baseball at Hutchinson Junior College. His stepmother, Jill, started at point guard for Concordia Lutheran, which qualified for the NAIA Final Four in 1993-94. His mother, Jamie Legerski, played basketball for Wyoming. His stepfather, Joe Legerski, is the women's basketball coach at Wyoming and a former Utah assistant.
At Hillcrest High School, Beadles earned first-team All-State and All-Region honors as a two-way lineman. The team captain and three-year starter did not miss a game during his high school career. He was the recipient of his team's "Top Lineman" Award as a senior after recording 93 tackles, six sacks and an interception for the defense and not allowing a sack as an offensive tackle. He received a two-star prospect rating from both Rivals.com and Scout.com.
Beadles also lettered three times in baseball and twice in basketball. He earned honorable mention All-State and first-team All-Region honors on the baseball diamond in 2005 and the team captain was a second-team All-Region player in 2004. A member of the National Honor Society, he ranked 37th out of a class of 542, graduating with a 3.92 grade point average.
Beadles enrolled at the University of Utah in 2005, spending the season on the scout team while red-shirting. The following season, he emerged from fall camp as the team's starting left guard, coming off the bench vs. Brigham Young after missing most of the week's practices and the previous week's game vs. Air Force after suffering a concussion vs. the Falcons. He participated in 696 plays, recording 39 knockdowns/key blocks as the Utes averaged 368.38 yards per game.
Beadles switched to left tackle in 2007, earning All-Mountain West Conference second-team and Academic All-MWC first-team honors. He repeated as a member of the Utah Athletic Director's Honor Roll, but also got high marks on the football field, where he collected 76 knockdowns/key blocks, along with ten touchdown-resulting blocks. Behind his blocking, Utah averaged 369.62 yards per game in total offense. Beadles was named the Utes' Top Offensive Lineman, adding All-MWC first-team honors in 2008. He was selected for ESPN's Academic All-District VIII team and again earned league and school academic honors. He started 12 games at left tackle, missing the Nevada-Las Vegas clash after suffering a knee sprain vs. Michigan. He finished with 109 knockdowns/key blocks, getting out in front on 13 touchdown-resulting blocks. Behind his blocking, Utah generated 400.92 yards per game and led the MWC while ranking 15th nationally in scoring (36.92 points per game). The Lombardi Award candidate was named All-American second-team by Walter Camp and again garnered All-MWC first-team recognition as a senior. He manned the left tackle position, producing 89 knockdowns/key blocks while recording 15 touchdown-resulting blocks. The young offense struggled to match their 2008 production, but the Utes still averaged 389.54 yards per game.

<TABLE class=SLTables1 cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR class=bg0><TD>Analysis</TD></TR><TR class=bg2><TD>
Pass blocking: Looks like a guard on the edge, lacking the height and athletic build expected of most elite left tackle prospects. Rarely gets beat by defensive ends on outside rushes, however, because he has a quick set, solid footwork and smooth lateral movement. Inconsistent with his punch, but will reset his hands inside and play with a wide base to anchor after the initial contact. Adeptly picks up twists and safety blitzes. Will get knocked back by a strong punch, but usually recovers to anchor. Inconsistent on cut blocks for quick throws. Plays a little nasty, and doesn't let his man up once on the ground. Inexperienced pass protecting from a three-point stance.
Run blocking: Didn't line up with his hand on the ground and fire off the ball very often in Utah's spread offense. More of a positional run blocker, moving his feet to put himself between the defender and the ball. Punches his man in the numbers when attempting to drive, but doesn't move his feet to sustain the block. Good on combo blocks, pounding the guard and finding a linebacker to take out of the play. Gets low and drives forward in goal-line and short-yardage situations.
Pulling/trapping: Only occasionally blocks on the move, but has the feet to trap if moved inside in the pros. Has only average foot quickness moving down the line, but adjusts to oncoming defenders while in motion and gets a hand on hustling linemen to prevent them from getting to the ball. Gets low to cut block defenders he can't reach.
Initial Quickness: Good enough with his kick slide off the snap to prevent even quick pass rushers from turning the corner. Not called upon to drive block often, and needs practice firing off the snap into an opponent's jersey from a three-point stance.
Downfield: Not fluid running to cut off linebackers between the tackles, but moves adequately and doesn't let go once he gets there. Reaches defenders in space - even used to knock out cornerbacks on slip screens - but comes in off-balance and will struggle to sustain if he doesn't latch on. Inconsistent moving his feet to stay on his man. Intangibles: Durable three-year starter who is a vocal leader in the locker room. Coaches love his attitude and work ethic in practice. NFL Comparison: Brandon Frye, Seahawks

Scouts Inc. gives Zane Beadles a grade of 73.

Pros: Shows adequate quickness in his set. Very good awareness in pass pro. Can mirror and slide in smaller spaces. Good football intelligence. Knows opponents tendencies. Takes good angles and shows excellent awareness in blitz pickup. Strong grasp of protection schemes shows up on film and does a nice job of staying at home when defensive line stunts.

Cons: However, he does have physical limitations in pass pro, which is the primary reason we believe he needs to play inside to be successful in the NFL. He has shorter arms and lacks ideal athleticism. Will struggle to get set versus upper-echelon speed rushers. Also plays a bit high at times and will get walked back into the QB by powerful bull rushers on those occasions.

Mankins is a very good comp.

Beadles' only knocks come if you view him as a tackle and assume that moving to guard he'll have a hard time transitioning. That also means you're ignoring the fact that he played guard his first year of college, is a four year starter, and has a very high football IQ by all accounts.

We could potentially play him at C, but he could probably be a difference maker from day one at either guard spot. Its rare to find a 310 pound guard with good body control, intensity until the whistle blows, and the smarts to learn any offensive role needed.

I think I saw on Broncos Forums that Beadles came in for a visit pre draft. I thought he was more of a 3rd-4th rounder, but Mayock has him as his #4 rated interior lineman with only Asamoah left above him, so it probably isn't much of a reach.

Sounds like the prototypically McD pick though. A versatile offensive lineman that could probably start at guard and backup any position on the line.

Mayock seems to think he ends up at center though with his football intelligence to make line calls (something Pouncey may not be able to do).

I foresee a training camp battle between Olsen and Beadles for center and the loser slides out to LG. Hochstein can return to backup duties. We can hopefully cut Polumbus as Beadles could backup Harris as well.

I really like the pick.

I just read up on Mankins when he was drafted. Beadles sounds very similar. Mankins played his entire Sr. Year at LT and was expected to compete at both tackle and guard when drafted. Sounds like we'll expect Beadles to compete at guard and center. I like this pick the more I read up on him, sounds like McD found a gem!

Okung, Earl Thomas and Golden Tate. Good first draft for Carroll.

Why take him so early? I don't get it.

I'm thinking we go RB, C, or 5 tech DE at 80 and 87.

If you think he's the best guy.. why not take him?

Ducasse off the board - I wanted him initially but after reading the report about him whining to coaches at the senior bowl to move him inside when he was getting beat at tackle really turned me off from him.

I think Beadles is a much better choice for us, even though Ducasse might have been more of a household name

Can any one get me a link so I don't have to look at Jamie Dukes stupid ass?

It's not a reach if he's the guy you want.

Cause we don't pick for 35 picks and he could very well have been gone. If you want the kid then draft him. Plus it sounds like he can play both center and guard for us, which is vastly needed.
