Brian McCann groundout to 2B gives Ubaldo Jimenez a no hitter!

He needs to thank Dexter Fowler for it as well, watch the play he made in the 7th inning!

Didn't realize that was the 1st.

Maybe he will live up the Spring Training Cy talk.

This guy became my favorite Rockie last year. A truly dynamic pitcher! Congrats to my Latino brother!

Unbelivable. Insane. The broncos better look out! With performances like the Rockies have made the last three years, they may soon start calling Denver a baseball town.

Seems like a wonderful guy as well - becoming one of the dominant pitchers in the NL.

Jimenez has the filthiest stuff around. When his command is on, he's almost impossible to hit.

The Colorado Rockies beat the New York Mets (1962) and the San Diego Padres (1969) to their first no-hitter.

Lincecum has nastier stuff, Jimenez is right up there though.

I had goosebumps. I haven't had goosebumps watching sports since the Broncos won Super Bowl 32. Congrats, Ubaldo!

Lincecum has nastier stuff, Jimenez is right up there though.

They both have elite stuff. Lincecum is the better pitcher because of his superior command.

Lincecum has more refined secondary pitches, but Jimenez's consistent high-90s velocity is unmatched by anybody.

This is what Ryan Braun had to say about Jimenez on Opening Day:

"He's throwing 99 and the ball is moving a foot and a half," Braun said. "He's got great stuff. We won't face anybody with better stuff -- ever. He has as good of stuff as you'll see in the game."

For those that didn't see the game, he was really wild in the first 5 innings - he walked 6. So Bob Apodaca suggested he go to the stretch since he had better control with guys on base. So the last 4 innings he retired 12 straight throwing from the stretch.

Never heard of Justin Verlander? He threw a no-hitter hitting 99 in the 9th inning even, thats matching Jimenez.

No hitters are great drama, Was it a perfect game also or just a no-no?

6 walks so just a no hitter, but still not letting a hit against major league talent, which braves are one of the better teams even, is a task!

According to the 2010 Bill James Handbook:

Fastest Average Fastball during 2009 season (min. 162 IP)
1. Ubaldo Jimenez 96.1
2. Justin Verlander 95.6

You're right though, Verlander is in the same class with Jimenez. My mistake.

Hey its cool, those 2 are in a class by themselves and its exclusive company. No doubt Jimenez has brutal stuff and might be even better than Verlander, Lincecum has that curve that owns any batter in the league.

Jimenez has some straight nasty stuff, the only thing making him not on par with Lincecum/Greinke/Santana,etc is the fact he has struggles with control at times, which can cause a huge downward turmoil at times. Back in 2007 I thought man, if only this guy had control he'd be awesome, and never thought he would get that control. 2008, he was shaky, but last year he started to get it. Now, it looks like he's finally starting to enter into that potential.

This was awesome. We watched it from the fourth inning and by the end I was going nuts. My wife still doesn't fathom the awesome.

Damn, I had to be walking my kids around in Vegas and missed it! Im sure FSN will do about 35,000 replays of it though.

Love Ubaldo, my favorite pitcher. Couldnt even fathom it if we had drafted Lincecum instead of Reynolds though.

I once tried to hit a friend of mine who only threw about 88. Man it seemed so friggin fast and I was way over matched being a total scrub. I can only imagine how fast 98 must be. Just the difference between the low 80's I was used to seeing, and his close to 90 was incredible. Going up close to 100 would be a blur of white I would think. It's really amazing that people can even hit that damn ball when its going close to 100 miles an hour and doesn't fly in a straight line.

Hitting a major league fastball has to be one of the toughest things in sports.

There was another one right after that and CarGo had a nice one as well. Fowler's stole the show but as with most no-hitters, this was a team effort. Nice to see too b/c our defensive play has been bleh since opening day.
