View Full Version : Broncos' Scheffler will sign tender, clearing way for trade

bronco militia

Tony Scheffler will sign his tender today, a transaction formality that transfers the Broncos' tight end from restricted free agency to the trading block.

Brandon Marshall, the Broncos' No. 1 receiver, signed his $2.512 million tender Tuesday and was traded today to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for second-round picks in the 2010 and 2011 drafts.

Scheffler will sign his $1.176 million tender today with the understanding the Broncos need to control his rights before they can trade him.

The Broncos hope to get a third-round pick in return for Scheffler, whose 13.7 yards per catch tops all tight ends since he came into the league in 2006.

I like the idea of McD looking ahead to the 2011 draft by getting an extra 2nd for Marshall. I'd like to see McD go ahead and take a 2011 3rd for Schef instead of getting a 5th this year. I just don't see us getting a 3rd or 4th pick this year for him. The 2011 pick has less value, until next year comes, then the value goes back up.

Klis post:

Brandon Marshall is gone. And tight end Tony Scheffler may be following him out the Dove Valley doors. Scheffler, the Broncos’ top pass-catching tight end, is close to signing his restricted free-agent tender with the Broncos, a move that _ as the Marshall situation taught us _ is a formality step preceeding the team’s ability to trade him.

We send Scheff and our 4th to Browns
They send us their middle 3rd (#85) and one of their 5th round picks.

My point was that we traded 2 3rds for a 2nd and a 4th (who turned out to be Seth Olsen - a guy it looks like will start this year).

Evidence is overwhelming now ... players and personnel over whom Josh has purview have practically staged a mutiny. Kinda makes you see the whole Jay Cutler mess a little differently now, eh? It should.

I'll bet a thousand dollars that Eddie Royal would LOVE to get out of here.

Still, Josh must be given his chance, there might be a method to his madness, and to his clear pattern of alienating players and personnel. I'm doubting it, but maybe. He is our coach, and he should get a fair shot. In my opinion, at LEAST through 2011. I don't like him, but it's only fair. Besides, the damage is done.

Still, Josh must be given his chance, there might be a method to his madness, and to his clear pattern of alienating players and personnel. I'm doubting it, but maybe.

mutiny over an nfl head coach. thats awesome.

Evidence is overwhelming now ... players and personnel over whom Josh has purview have practically staged a mutiny. Kinda makes you see the whole Jay Cutler mess a little differently now, eh? It should, anyway ... any reasoned analysis of the whole picture demands a renewed look at it. And I'll bet a thousand dollars that Eddie Royal would LOVE to get out of here.

Still, Josh must be given his chance. There might be a method to his madness, and to his clear pattern of alienating players and personnel. I'm doubting it, but maybe.

He is our coach, and he should get a fair shot. In my opinion, at LEAST through 2011, perhaps even 2012. I don't like him, but it's only fair.

And for somebody like Dumervil, I hope he holds out for more money and not let them blackball him.
This is a business and there are very few times in-between a player's career when the window of opportunity opens up. Dumervil will never get another chance to make the most money in his career as he does now.

It's a business, and Dumervil having seen what's been happening to our most talented players should take notice...

I think he should get a third year so long as they are at least in the general vicinity of .500, although there is precedent for Bowlen axing a head coach who didn't have a winning record once in his first two years (Phillips). However, in this instance, since McDaniels is totally reshaping the club in terms of personnel and offensive and defensive systems (I'm not saying the reshaping is a good or bad thing, some parts of it I like, some I really don't, but such a comprehensive overhaul necessarily requires more time before it can be assessed). A third year is fair, so long as this year isn't significantly worse than .500 and the general outlook is positive.

I'm WAY over with taking Spiller over Dez.

He's like that guy from Florida with the Vikes.

We can draft OL in round 2-4.

This team needs some playmakers badly on offense. Too bad we didn't get Greene for peanuts instead of Quinn.

NY is going to kick balls this year.

Of course we can get 3rd, or may be a second round pick.

We used two 3rd round picks to get Richard Quinn.

WAIT...

Haha!!
And we picked him in the 2nd round no-less.
Imagine if we had drafted Maualuga and Orakpo, both available to us when we picked last year. Dumervil, Orakpo, Maualuga.
Oh my!
But, we have to settle for Ayers and Moreno :strong:

Maybe we should have a poll:

How many OM'ers have had a DUI, DWUI, or could have / should have had one but fortunately didn't get caught?

Not that I condone such behavior or am immune to that sort of crap...

But seriously folks...It's a serious problem but it doesn't mean the person is a demon and will only become a derailer of teams.

Quinn was rated as a second-rounder by several prominent draft reports, and Texans GM Rick Smith stated Quinn was going to be their selection in the third round had he been there. We knew that and moved up to get him. We also received Seth Olsen via the trade with Pittsburgh, from their original fourth rounder. Stop crying about the selection Dragster, and suffocate yourself with barbwire.

That's funny as how Quinn wonder if he would even be drafted.

Anyway, wern't we allready paying an elite blocking TE under contract allready for 10 million?

IF we needed one, maybe.

The 09 draft was an epic FAIL.

So we got some ST players...oh my.

I remember buying a Packard Bell, (little did I know), cause it had windows 98.

It cost like 1800. 2000 pent, 8 MB memory, 2 gigs HD.

Now it seems the standard is quad core/8GB/1 GB blue ray/wireless 4G with your smartphone.

Frankly, it seems to me the companies are milking advancements. Yet it seems there is plenty of competition.

2nd, less important, if we get a 5th for him that is good. I honestly was expecting very little. I have a feeling we'll have to wait for draft day to find out (tries to jinx it)

A 5th would be solid considering what we've seen other skill players (BM, Boldin, Holmes) have gone for....I'd expect Sheff to be a token player on a draft-day position/pick trade.

Bengals | May have interest in trading for Scheffler

Fri, 16 Apr 2010 10:52:07 -0400

Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Cincinnati Bengals may have interest in acquiring Denver Broncos TE Tony Scheffler. When head coach Marvin Lewis was asked about the team's tight end situation, he said some of the questions about the position will be answered before the start of the draft.

Thanks for the update Traveler, the Bengals would have #120 (4th) or #152 (5th) as realistic trade options for decent value. They have compensatory selections in the third and fourth, so maybe they'd be willin'.

You can't trade compensatory selections, those picks I listed are what they have in those rounds (four and five) that aren't such. (#96 and #131 are their 3rd and 4th compensatory selections.)
