Boston attorney says he investigated another Roethlisberger incident
Posted by Mike Florio on April 13, 2010 11:13 AM ET
So with the possibility of a Georgia prosecution official gone and only a civil lawsuit in Nevada remaining, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger can exhale and focus only on playing football and not barhopping, right?

Maybe not.

Boston lawyer Harry Manion told WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Show on Tuesday that Manion was involved in an investigation regarding another Big Ben incident.

Said Manion: "[T]here is a history here this is just super troubling."

Manion specifically referred to an incident from 2009, also in Nevada. "Six months ago I was retained by a client of mine and a close friend to investigate allegations against Ben Roethlisberger in a Las Vegas nightclub that were absolutely identical to this Georgia girl's story," Manion said.

Manion believes that, if Roethlisberger ever is going to change his ways, the near miss in Georgia will be the impetus.

"Unless he's totally brain dead -- and we don't know -- he would be scared," Manion said. "Because he has really walked a perilous line here. There's a whole litany here, not only my experience, I have connected with several other people that have experience. And you know, there's only so far that he said/she said will get you. There's only so far that paying hush money will get you, if hush money is paid. And there's only so far that, 'Gee, we're celebrities, we have a target on our back,' will get you. When you see this much smoke, month after month and continuously . . . . It's the scene that he's gotten himself caught up with, and the belief that he can walk, and so far, so good. But it's hurting him. He's hurt. He has been damaged. And the next one, the wrath of God's going to come down on him, if there is a next one."

It's compelling stuff, and we agree with Manion's take. That said, the guy has a set of large brass ones to talk about allegations that never were pursued in criminal or civil court. A certain degree of immunity applies to statement made in conjunction with official legal proceedings. Manion has placed himself at risk for a defamation claim, especially by suggesting that there are incidents beyond the Vegas case that he personally handled.

Then again, the primary injury in a defamation case occurs to the reputation of the plaintiff. Like Pacman Jones threatening to sue ESPN in early 2009 after the network released more information about an alleged Atlanta strip club shooting from 2007, Jones would be able to prove no damage to the manner in which any potential untruths harmed his reputation because his reputation already was horrendous.

Ben faces the same challenge. Suing Manion or anyone else who claims that he has a more extensive history of Milledgeville-style encounters would expose Roethlisberger's entire sexual history and his broader reputation to scrutiny. As Roger Clemens has learned the hard way, nothing good comes from that approach -- especially if hanging in the closet next the devil-face T-shirt is a collection of skeletons.

So what Manion is actually saying is that one of the NFL's most prominent players also happens to be a serial rapist. But since he's got so damn much money he doesn't even have to be a particularly skilled one, he just buys his way out when it gets legally sticky.

Awesome. Stay classy Ben.

The overwhelming number of stories about him being a douche to the public and even Steelers legends like Terry Bradshaw lead me to believe that Big Ben is a Big Douche.

Because if you pay its not rape.

Roofiesberger is a rapist, he isn't doing it to get laid, he's doing it 'cause he gets off on raping chicks.

I wonder what his police body guards are doing while he's allegedly raping the supposed victom.

All of this is just very strange.

From what I understand in the Georgia case, at least one of them was blocking the restroom door. Apparently, Ben likes his privacy.

I hate him too, so it doesn't bother me in the least that Ben disrespected him...and yes he's damn ugly. But I have trouble doubting the story as Ben is being exposed. Money can buy you only so much.

Dating Ad for Big Ben:

I am an elite athlete, who has lead (okay not so much lead as stumbled down field) his team to two Superbowl victories. I, know I don't have good looks or brains, but I do have body guards to block the door and ensure we have uninterrupted (well except my occasional performance problems, but every guy has those right??) time to uh talk and stuff. If a bathroom stall is not your ideal place for a date, may I recommend a casino hotel room where we can adjust my cable (get it, ha ha, adjust my cable...man I am so funny, see ladies, funny and rich). Look forward to getting sued by you, Mr. Benjamin Rottinhellsburger.

I found the results for the Georgia thing very odd. Ben stated that he was drinking alot and so was the chick. She went to the bathroom or something and he followed her and went into her stall. She later had results of genital bruising and bleeding consistant with rape. There was no semen but DNA did show results of a males hair or skin?

Unless she loves her sex ultra rough, it looks to me like Ben took that. What a POS. I wonder if he and Tiger Woods are friends, lol.

Because Roofiesberger got his boys spreading the green out in that small little Georgia town fast enough for it all to disappear.

Girl who accused him of rape now doesn't want to assist prosecutors.

Police Officers failed to procure security tapes in a timely fashion.

Night club erased security tapes when cops delayed in procuring them.

Basically every shred of real evidence disappeared after the fact. When good police work is supposed to be done and the evidence collected, witnesses protected, etc..

So moral of the story: If you're a rapist and you've got millions of dollars to piss away, just make sure your representation greases the right hands fast enough before they can incriminate you.

Okay, my smartass ad aside, rape has always been difficult to prosecute even with two non famous people involved, but it would be difficult to prosecute anyway. This particular state also has to show the rape was rough and by rough, I mean knock about rough, not just rough sex. It's crap, but there it is. Ben, is not going to get knocked off his invinicibility throne until an actual prosecution takes place, not just a civil case. And I guarantee if a girl does try to prosecute his attorneys will destroy her in the process. Beyond being destroyed at a local level like most rape victims, she's going to be destroyed in the press, her life drug through the mud, etc. The girl who was raped by Polanski when she was 13 is having that cirucus happen to her all over again and he was convicted. When that Kennedy cousin was put on trial for rape, while the girl's name I think was specifically kept out, the story was all over and she was trashed and he walked and I would be willing to bet William Kennedy Smith was not innocent. OJ Simpson walked away from a brutal disturbing murder, do you really think Big Ben won't get away with rape, something that's only been considered a crime for maybe the last century and even now people question it.

Personally I think if he gets accused again he is F'd. No NFL team will give him a huge contract so he can keep getting away with this.

The other difference is that Tiger's liasons were at least consensual not ruffie laden bathroom stall rapings.

HUH?
Vick is an ignorant moron who kills dogs for amusement.
McNabb is all class! As far as I know, he has no "off field issues", pending charges, positive drug tests or crimes committed.
So, they're in the same sentence because... ?

Ben is a classless piece of **** - I've heard a lot of stories since I moved to Pittsburgh. The gist of them is: He tips under $5 at restaurants, has walked out without paying his tab at MANY bars, and bitches when people talk to him in public and won't sign autographs!

Awesome. Stay classy Ben.I wouldn't go as far as calling Ben a serial rapist, lol!
I do however think he needs to be punished by the NFL for violating the league's conduct policy.
A lot of people are watching and waiting to see how the commissioner is going to handle this case, and Roeth's better get some suspension time or hell is going to break loose...

Um, yeah. That is exactly what Manion is saying. There are two known cases where he's been accused of rape, and Manion claims to know about at least a third (possibly more).

That is the definition of a serial offender.

People keep wondering why he makes these kinds of mistakes. Either he's completely ****ing retarded or he's one of those few sick individuals who gets off on violating women. Signs are beginning to point to the later of those two scenarios.
