Not sure if this has been posted before, but for those who haven't heard:

So basically, these extremists are unhappy about homosexuality and they take it out on people who are going to funerals for people who died serving in the military (wtf?).

I would love to see people show up en masse at the funerals of Westboro people. Imagine if Fred Phelps died and people showed up and had a huge gay disco party at his funeral. I think that would be awesome.

I think that the pastor is not a very nice person. I think he's an angry person who's twisted the Bible and picked and chosen verses that support his anger, that sort of justify his anger, and he's instilled that in his children and they've passed it on to their children. Although the second and third generation are by and large quite nice people from what I saw, they still live under the influence of their Gramps.

Running it?

No. The hell I am imagining is run by homosexual demons with a sadistic streak. "Grandpa Phelps" is not going to enjoy getting sodomized by demons for eternity.

Agreed - it seems like the people who are so vocal about their opposition to homosexuality eventually get exposed as homos themselves.

You gotta know Fred Phelps is getting it in the behind as we speak.

I've got no problem with homos in the military as long as they keep their sexuality to themselves. No flamboyant ****. No flirting. If you like dick or want to give another man dick, do it at home. Protesting a marine that died because he's gay is beyond comprehension. It makes no ****ing sense. Quite pathetic.

This group looks extremest as **** though.

"Thank god for dead soldiers."

Seriously?

And while I disagree with everything these people stand for, they shouldn't be shut down (freedom of speech) but just ignored. Do it at on of their funerals!

Have hung out in the bar in Hell, Grand Caymen a few times.

Great place. I wish someone would banish me to the end barstool for eternity.

They dont protest gay soldiers. They go to funerals of any dead soldiers. Their connection is "god kills american soldiers to punish the US for 'harboring gays'". Ridiculous. Absolute garbage.

This the soldier's website, http://www.matthewsnyder.org/ ... although Bill O'Reilly picked up the $16,500 or so, estimates are that their court costs will eventually reach $60,000.

I just hope the Supreme Court comes up with a more reasonable ruling. What the 4th Circuit of Appeals did is a disgusting tragedy.

Only in America, right?!?

Unfortunately, the lunatic fringe inhabits all facits of our society...

Although I applaud Mr. O'Reilly for his assistance, this defeats his purpose. ND has barred these people from picketing funerals, and a handful of other states have followed. These people are best ignored and left to their own. The more they are ignored, the more they will have to escalate their efforts. When they do that it will no longer be free speech. I know that it sickens me that the very freedoms that we serve to protect get turned against us in ignorant ways. Before they were banned from picketing funerals in ND the Patriot riders would rev their engines so the ignorant wouldn't be heard. And in many states the cases where confrontation have been issues, it has been Patriot riders or another pro military bike group as the intermediary. I have also heard of several cases where Police Chiefs have said that if they set foot in their town that they will put them in jail from the time that the funeral is scheduled and hold them for anything under the sun that they can imagine until it is done. That is what started the ban in ND.

I'm not really polarized on the whole gay rights issue one way or the other - but me likey the idea of a 4 day Gay Pride Festival on the event of Freddie's demise.

It can't be too much longer, can it?

Or is he too mean to die? Kinda like ol' Al Davis?

I'm a Marine, so I empathize with the Snyder family. I think there may be grounds for disallowing the WBC group from demonstrating due to their hateful and inciteful speech. But the courts of the land aren't ruling based on decency or tastefullness, they rule on constitutionality. There is a 1st Amendment principle at stake here. I won't lose any sleep if Phelps is squelched forever, but it will make me wonder what the new standard of acceptable speech in the eyes of the courts will be.

So the constitution is too liberal for you? Or do you mean get rid of all liberals who side on the right of homosexual rights so that the obviously "conservative" Phelps and crew won't have anything to yell about?

I believe some groups are so far out there they defy normal classification. The Phelps BS a thon is its own unique culture. The appellate court should not have made the Marine's father pay the court cost. In my view, these people chanting Semper Fag, ect. is akin to yelling fire in a crowded theater. Someone is going to lose their cool and go after these clowns, and who ends up in jail then?...No God teaches the desecration of the dead = acceptable way to protest.

I totally agree with this. I understand the 1st amendment, but I've seen protestors that are doing nothing more than yelling removed from their situation. I hope the SC looks at not only their freedom of speech but their inciteful retoric. It's akin to allowing Al Queda to hold a rally in NYC yelling "Kill Americans, bring down another building". I was just trying to clarify his "liberal" chant.

We often yell and scream about the federal government getting too large and overstepping their boundaries but then when the states have the chance to step up and make laws to prevent the federal government from getting involved, only a handful of states do so. Will something finally happen when this protest crowd gets gunned down? Will everyone scream conspiracy when there are no witnesses after an angry family member retaliates against the church or the group?

This one is on the states if they aren't pre-empting these problems. I could probably choose 100 different venues to exercise my free speech in which I would be removed from a public location for being a disturbance. This, however, is protected free speech. This is selective enforcement of the constitution.

Question - if Obama were assassinated (not speculating, just hypothetical) and these people went out to protest at his funeral ceremony, do you think they'd be allowed?
