View Full Version : Jay Cutler might lose his best friend. And his wife.

Greg Olsen has been concerned that his role would diminish in new offensive coordinator Mike Martz's tight end-unfriendly scheme, so if the Bears wanted to keep Olsen this year, it's a good sign that he's participating already. Still, we'd be surprised if the Bears didn't field trade offers for Olsen on draft weekend after signing Brandon Manumaleuna to a $15 million deal.

Poor bastard :nono:

$15 million? For Manemaleuna? I see it was a fourth traded to CHI.

Sheesh, who wants Scheffler?

So we had Buff and Simms break up and now Olsen and Cutler. Oh, the humanity!

Has he demanded a trade yet?

No, but he's already telling teammates that he can't wait for the season to end.

Don't you guys think he can find another tight end to receive it in the backfield?

Olsen was literally their best offensive player last year. Martz is an idiot.

You'd have thought Olsen would have been on Jay's list of untouchables during the time he was interviewing OCs, and that Martz would have guaranteed not to cut/trade him.

Sarcasm? If not, you must not have watched any bears games last season.

Not at all. And, because of the Cutler/draft pick factor, I can say that I watched quite a bit of them. Not every game, but more than half.

You tell me then, who was the most consistently productive offensive player last season for that team? Who was more often than not, Cutler's "go to" guy in key situations like 3rd downs and in the redzone? That is the criteria I am using for my analysis and Olsen is the clear winner IMO.

BroncoBuff turning this place into a bears forum again?

It's odd they'd trade Olsen away. Cutler is a great seam passer and really good at attacking the middle of the field. Honestly the Manumaleuna contract appeared to me like a move by the front office that they're "really going after it" when all they did was give a lot of money to a jack of all trades, master of none tight end.

Really though, this story seems like someone trying to fill space until some real news breaks around the NFL.

Trade Scheffler for him.

I'm pretty sure they picked up Manumaleuna to help their terrible line.

Well...I guess Cutler will have to find another guy with a "wife" to enjoy the love that dare not speak its name. Who else will he play handball with?

I think this is the most likely candidate....

But wait who is he going to drink with:

Maybe he comes to Denver and we get more of these:

When you are the common denominator in 2 high profile QB drinking exposes YOU also have a problem! :)

Martz doesn't use the TE as a receiver. See Vernon Davis's production after the 49ers got rid of Martz.

But seriously, I am sure the next coaching staff in Chicago would appreciate it if they kept Olsen.

Marshall Faulk shined while playing for Martz IIRC...

Vernon Davis started playing better after Singletary sent him to the locker room during a game. Until that time he was inconsistent, lazy, took plays off and wasn't up on the play book. His whole demeanor changed for the 2009 season after he had a sit down with Singletary in the off season.

Cutler was literally their best offensive player last year. McDaniels is an idiot.

TIME WARP!

I jest. Olsen is awesome, but I think, in terms of TE usage, McDaniels is closer to Martz than he is to, say, Norv.

I think it depends on Martz's flexibility. Brandon M. is a top notch blocker - which the Bears desperatley need, plus Olsen is good enough to split out. If Martz can deal with that they could be effective in a 2 TE base set.

That said, tough to teach an old dog new tricks
