According to Pro Football Focus (http://profootballfocus.com/by_position.php?tab=by_position&season=2009&pos=K&stype=r&runpass=&teamid=-1&numsnaps=25&numgames=1) Prater is the best kicker in the NFL. They have a formula that takes both FG's and kickoffs into account.

He was #1 in the NFL in touchbacks, #1 in average KO distance, 5th in kickoff hangtime, gave Denver the 2nd best starting defensive field position, was 2nd in the NFL in # of kickoffs returned, and was 12th in the NFL in FG accuracy out of all the kickers with at least 17 FG attempts.

He was a pleasant surprise last year, and I was one of the people who couldn't understand how McDaniels didn't have someone competing against him in camp.

That's pretty cool stuff, even if the numbers are skewed since he gets 8 games in the thin air at Invesco.

Yeah but the air can get cold the last half of the season and balls don't fly as far in cold air as they do warm air. :strong:

Prater rocks. I ALWAYS thought he would work out here. I remember there were some goons here asking for his head after his first year, lol.

Good find BMarsh615

There was a good post on MHR a while ago explaining why he was the best as well. Here it is.

It's been a treat watching touchbacks again. Prater had a very solid year last year, and if he can continue to improve, he's going to be a great K.

Awesome article. Never saw it all broken down like that before.

One of the more interesting stats that even I didn't realize about him:

Prater had a higher field-goal percentage and a longer average kickoff distance on the road

Best kicker in the game. One position down on our way to league domination.

I think this is only gonna get better...the guy has been conditioned to play a full season in the NFL...no more dead leg like he experienced his first year...this guy will become a weapon soon dare I say--JE LIKE--

Ah. He impressed in year 2. I want to see him make a game winning kick in the playoffs...so McDaniels...make it so.

Matt Prater was an invited guess on Channel 4 All "Axcess" Sunday Sport Show

I think he'll be a good kicker for us. I must admit I wasn't happy with his 2008 performance, and really didn't want him back in 2009.
The way he bounced back and performed last season was remarkable.
I think he will continue to be a solid kicked for us...

Dirty, dirty man-love. The kind of love that can only be shown behind closed doors, with a few friends and...preferably....an unsuspecting ottoman. The kind of love that resulted in me receiving a restraining order last fall. That kind.
