ORLANDO, FLA. There are almost as many opinions about Tim Tebow's prospects of being an NFL quarterback as there are people talking about Tim Tebow's prospects of being an NFL quarterback.

But at least one guy who knows a thing or two about NFL quarterbacks, who has seen a few make it in the league, scooted over to Gainesville, Fla., this past weekend to form his own opinion.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan led the team's delegation, which visited the Florida campus Saturday to hold a private workout with Tebow. A former Gators assistant, Shanahan certainly didn't need directions to Ben Hill Stadium.

In the wake of a difficult week at the Senior Bowl and almost continued questions about his NFL worthiness
since his collegiate career ended, Tebow has tried to fix things.

He has tried to repair his throwing motion, has tried to improve where he carries the ball during his dropback from center, tried to reconstruct his footwork and tried to convince any and all scouts he's ready to learn more about being a professional quarterback.

By all accounts, Shanahan enjoyed talking with Tebow during the visit. If the Redskins remain interested on draft day, they are likely to bring Tebow in as a backup to starter Jason Campbell.

Shanahan likes his quarterbacks smart, he likes them mobile and he usually likes them with a little more arm strength than Tebow has shown. But Shanahan also believes in the intangibles of the quarterback position how a guy works, how a guy leads, how a guy reacts with the game on the line and the pressure on his shoulders.

And in Tebow, there aren't many scouts who don't like all of that. They don't question his character or his willingness to put in the time.

For this reason, several teams will follow the same route the Redskins did and go take a look for themselves.

Old-fashioned Shanahan smoke screen ... Tebow is not really NFL caliber, not as a starter anyway. Shanahan must know that.

Shannahan might like him as a utility player who can be the emergency QB. Shanny notorious for hating having 3 qbs on the roster. He will want 1 starter, 1 bkup and thats it. If that bkup would also play a utility roll Shanny may like that plan.

Shanahans ego and ability place him above all others when it comes to bringing out the most of a quarterback.

If he thinks he can work with him, which actually means: if he decides he likes him..............then he'll be pulling the trigger on the guy probably in round 2.

He hates it, but it also bit him on the arse the year he decided to try going with 2 QBs so its not exactly a dead cert that he'll try it again....If the #3 can do something else of value however, then yes, Shanny would like that.

Thing is, if you're Tebow, do you accept a 'slash' role or do you go all out to prove you can be a QB? Doing something 'just to fill in' has a funny way of becoming your proper job very quickly.....particularly if people are not 100% convinced you can do the job you really want....

I can't see Tebow connecting on the deep crossing routes very often. I think his game is limited at the NFL level. Lots of guys want to play at a high level in the NFL and yes, he has the college pedigree, that will make folks consider him...but, I just dont' see it.

BVP = Tebow

I could have sworn Shanny worked for a different team than the Broncos. I wonder if Legwold got the memo... probably not...

Interesting to watch Shannys approach this time around.

Here he 'led the delegation' to Florida for the workout. With us it was all smokescreens, misdirection and misplaced trust.

IMO, he will be better served by relying on what his own eyes and ears process over those that he placed trust in in the past.

If the Redskins pick Tebow...it will because Shanny saw something after doing his own due diligence. Always trust yourself Mike.

Who's to say that anything's changed? I would guess that the redskins have no intention of drafting Tebow now that Mike personally went down there to see him.

The Skins need a FB after Portis went Atomic on their current guy.

If Shanny thinks Tebow has potential then he should just stick with Campbell for now and only take Tebow if he falls out of the 2nd round. What Shanny sees in Tebow is another Steve Young. Shanny always loved Steve Young.

It's too funny Shanny and Turner are reunited with Clinton Portis, cut Ladell Betts. And Shanny passed on Mike Bell, Peyton Hillis, Tony Sheffler, Brandon Marshall.
