View Full Version : Thomas Jones gets $3 million in 2010, $2 million in 2011 from the Chiefs

The Chiefs have ended their search at tailback.

We think.

After kicking tires on Thomas Jones and Justin Fargas and lining up a visit with Willie Parker, the Chiefs have agreed to terms with Jones, according to a league source.

Jones signed a two-year deal; he'll get $3 million in 2010 and $2 million in 2011. He also is eligible to earn $500,000 in incentives.

With the Jets in 2009, Jones rushed for a career-high 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Jets cut him to avoid a $2.8 million roster bonus. They had hoped to try to re-sign him.

Guess we'll just have to wait to find out about that one. Charles showed he could run very well behind this line, not sure about Jones though since I doubt he can make people miss the way Charles does. Hopefully we'll finally find some help in the draft. Perhaps Albert's 2009 season was just a sophomore slump. We'll find out before too long I suppose.

Perhaps you should worry about your own problems, like late season collapses becoming the norm in Denver.

I could give you guys **** about your teams' attempt to improve the defensive line with the signing of some more 30+ year old journeymen.

Jamal Williams joins Denver's defensive line makeover

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 9, 2010 5:51 PM ET

Josh McDaniels is creating his very own "Over the Hill Gang" on Denver's defensive line.

The Broncos agreed to terms Tuesday on a three-year deal with nose tackle Jamal Williams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The news will sting in San Diego, where the Chargers wanted to re-sign the 3-4 run plugger at a lower cost after releasing him. (Shawne Merriman summed it up nicely.) Williams was also scheduled to meet with the Saints.

Williams is the third defensive lineman signed since Friday that is over 30, joining Justin Bannan and Jarvis Green. Bannan and Williams will split time at nose tackle, which should improve Denver's lackluster rush defense.

just sayin'

Charles/Jones is something to worry about

Jones is old and made his bones running behind some extremely solid lines in Chicago and New York. He's playing behind a very, very poor OL in Kansas City.

I'm also not particularly worried about Charles either for that matter.

Prehaps I would be if my team hasn't won a Superbowl in 40 years..

OR

Hasn't won a playoff game in 17 seasons.....

OR

Has won 10 games in 3 seasons......

But alas my team meets none of that criteria..

We've handled running backs much better than both of these guys before. Neither one of them are superstars. Hell, we completely shut down Charles in the first meeting.

You just got your hands on a DL who is older and was declining in '08 telling KC how old their 2nd option RB is.

You do understand the difference in their positions and how, historically, both play out, don't you? Neither is a savior, but NTs in their mid-30s fare better than RBs over the age of 30.

Excellent signing at a bargain price for the Chiefs. They really have a great 1-2 punch there now, although I don't think it was necessarily a need to get that complementary player, as Charles was probably going to develop into an all around stud (or to be more accurate...he is already is developing given last year). Still....at that price, at the very least it is excellent short term depth for pennies.

Worst in our team history? Really? Averaging 10 wins a year, having three sub-.500 records -- TOTAL -- in that time?

You're right. How awful. I wish my team could only win 10 games over THREE seasons.

At hardly 200 pounds though we needed somebody who could take more of a beating and be good for 7-10 carries a game.

At this point in his career, I think Jones needs a dominant o-line in front of him like he had in New York. I don't expect much of an impact from him but maybe he'll prove me wrong.

If KC is smart, they'll be giving the ball to Charles though.
