Actually, since it was the Bears' pick and the Bears at the coin flip, wouldn't it be more accurate to say that Cutler was picked off?

Coin flip gives Broncos No. 11 draft pick

Way to Bear down, Chicago Bears.

The Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars, tied for the 10th overall spot in the NFL draft, held a coin flip contest this morning to determine their alternate selections in each round. The flip went Jacksonville's way which means the Jags have the No. 10 pick in the first round; No. 11 in the second; No. 10 in the third, and so on.
The Broncos have the Bears' first-round pick thanks to the Jay Cutler trade. So the Broncos will have the No. 11 overall pick.
Then again, that's not exactly bad news for the Broncos. The No. 10 pick figures to get at least $2 million more in guaranteed bonus than the No. 11 pick. So the Broncos can use that extra $2 million-plus on filling other needs.
With their first round pick, the Broncos figure to take an interior defensive lineman; pass-rushing end/linebacker to complement Elvis Dumervil; quarterback or possibly a receiver.

I thought he coached a team that won the same number of games last year as the great one against far tougher opponents and without a so-called star QB???

Oh and by the way the Bears were doing the coin flip.

I read something yesterday that said losing the flip isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Everyone say it with me: It doesn't matter where we pick as long as we get a productive player.

This is a good thing, Jacksonville isnt expected to pick anyone that we are targeting, this just means we have to pay the man we pick less.

Right. Look at it this way:

The downside of picking 11th: We might get scooped by the Jags, if the player we want falls to #10 and the Jags grab him. What are the chances of this? Not very high in my opinion, but you never know, it could happen.

The upside of picking 11th: Guaranteed savings due to not having to pay an 11th pick as much as a 10th. This isn't a small thing: salaries for top draft picks are extremely inflated, and dropping from 10 to 11 is worth a pretty good chunk of money. That's guaranteed, no matter who we pick.

There's a small chance this might work out badly for us, but odds are it's going to save a lot of money with no real downside.

Plus this gives the Broncos the 10th pick in the 2nd round where there might be some nice first-round talent still lingering. Not a bad outcome really.

The only way this hurts us, is if:

1. The Jags take the guy we want
2. The Jags trade away #10 and that team takes the guy we want
3. We decide to move up/down in the draft and get less in exchange due the #11 pick being worth less than the 10

Unless we want Dez Bryant and they take him (they need a WR)
Unless we want Derrick Morgan and they take him (they need a DE)

I still would rather have won the coin flip. Not anything to cry about though.

Depending on how you look at it cancer isn't necessarily a bad thing.

We can continue to polish the turd and I'm all for that; hope keeps us coming back like abused wives. Oh, it will be different this time, not like before. Before, that wasn't his fault...blah blah blah.

We still haven't picked in the top ten since 94ish, Mike Croel? Although we had the 10 pick in 2001 we traded back to pick up O'Neal.

Lots of good plyaers at 11: McClain, Morgan, Iupittipatti, Bryant, Williams, Baluga the Whale......

I bet you can think of others.... Gnashing teeth over one position is dumb, and only helps your dentist........

They should trade down anyway....

You won't know until 3 or so years down the line if this coin-flip means anything, and odds are it won't mean much, but still it's nice to win something even if it's a coin-flip.

Did you really just compare a $2,000,000 less contract for a player to a life threatening debilitating disease?

Are you new?

No, I'm pointing out the Hope Floats mantra can work on anything if you're willing to put in a little mental gymnastics to achieve your preferred outcome. Pretty clear. Are you new or just thick?

This is a good time to mention where are all the whiners that said McDaniels was a compete fool for bending over for Seattle when he gave them our pick instead of insisting they take Chicago's pick. We would be picking 14th had he done what the genius' around here wanted him to do.

And could move up if they still had both picks.

However, it would probably be a move up to pick Tebow at 5 or something like that.

So I guess it's a wash.

The Raiders pick in the top 10 every year, a lot of good that is doing them
