Student: Knowshon threw KO punch

By STAFF REPORTS - Athens Banner-Herald
Published Wednesday, February 24, 2010

A University of Georgia student who was in a fight Saturday night in downtown Athens claims NFL running back Knowshon Moreno punched him out, but authorities aren't sure who threw the punch, Athens-Clarke police said.

The 18-year-old student didn't report the assault until Monday afternoon, and only after he "sought advice from friends," according to the police report.
Workers at the UGA health clinic told the student Monday that he had a concussion, and he filed a police report the same afternoon. But police aren't sure what happened; the student was drunk at the time of the fight, and his friends filled in the details for him later.
The victim said he was at Bourbon Street bar on East Broad Street after midnight Saturday when three other men jumped him, according to police. Friends were helping him leave the bar when Moreno ran up and punched him once in the face, the student told police.
"We developed information through a third party that Moreno said that he was struck first," police Capt. Clarence Holeman said. "We're in the process of trying to obtain statements from everyone concerned, including Moreno."
Moreno, who was at the bar Saturday night, spoke voluntarily with investigators Tuesday afternoon at the Lexington Road police headquarters.
Moreno was a star player for the Bulldogs in the 2007 and 2008 seasons, and last year rushed for nearly 1,000 yards as a rookie with the Denver Broncos.

I don't think this is much to be worried about with an under-age, black out drunk kid, who clearly cannot remember what exactly happened and didn't report it for two days. Moreno was smart to voluntarily talk to investigators, puts him in a better light.

BUT...

What the hell is up with these NFL players going back to their college hangouts and partying and getting into trouble. Once you're in the NFL it is fine to go back to your college area, but stay out of the normal bars and don't let yourself get into situations like this.

the NFL takes great strides at their rookie symposium also to keep these things from happening, at least to keep the players from being able to say they had no idea what would happen

it's amazing how many of them don't listen

I found the footage that will clear Moreno once and for all. Let's see. Too drunk to remember what happened. One punch gave him a concussion that lasted at least 2 days. I've got it. It was Mike Tyson.

Why do the people that bash Hillis, Marshall, and Scheffler hate the Broncos?
Isn't that what you're going with this?
I don't think Moreno is all that. I'm not going to sit here and as a Bronco fan tell you that Moreno is a stud just because he plays for my team when everything I've seen about him points to the contrary.

What happens if he fails next year?
Are we going to blame it on the proverbial "sophomore slump"?

I'm hoping we're going to have a great season. I want to believe we will, but then again, when I look at Orton at QB and Moreno in the backfield that causes reason for concerns. I don't feel very confident with those two in there as our offense leaders...

Honestly, I don't think that's it in most cases. Knowshon has never shown any sort of propensity for this kind of ****. Sounds like three moronic frat brothers got blackout drunk, then pulled a prank on their buddy (telling him it was Knowshon) and didn't let him in on it until it was too late.

Stupid.

It's not always that athletes are acting stupid. A lot of times, it's people who see athletes out and about and start acting like morons.

I'd be wicked pissed if I couldn't go back to my college town because I had to worry about this bull****.

Sadly, no matter what rich people, famous people, pro-athletes are always hoing to be target for money.
Anytime you hear a pro-player involved in a scuffle, more often than not, it always end up in some kind of settlement.
You have a young guy like Moreno who happens to be a 1st round pick with money, and you go to a bar where kids hang out and you'll get a recipe for trouble.
Pro-athletes need to watch where they go and try to stay away from places like that.
Hopefully this experience will serve notice to Moreno of what kind of world is out there...

Broncos escaped from the Assault Case
Thursday, 25 February 2010 - Brent Akamine

The cops have officially closed the case against Knowshon Moreno for allegedly punching a college kid in the face.

A rep from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department reported that the victim, an 18-year-old student, does not want to put charges against Moreno. Hence, the cops have decided to close the case against him due to lack of evidence.
