PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — The Haitian judge presiding over the case of 10 American missionaries accused of kidnapping Haitian children has requested that prosecutors drop the charges against them.

That's great news. I cannot believe they would imprison people who were just trying to help. Hope this happens quickly!!

Won't these people ever learn:

Just because you're familiar with the missionary position doesn't make you a missionary.

This looks like Tim Tebow's handiwork.

but didn't they try to take non orphan children? I know it probably isn't that simple but didn't these people do something stupid?

I read the same thing. These people made a huge mistake while trying to help people. Arresting them was the only way to handle it.

they tried to take nonorphan children AND were warned that an attempt to take any children was illegal and they would be put in jail for it

There are non stupid ways to go about helping

Precisely, at the very best they are incredibly naive and stupid, at the worst, they knew what they were doing. Either way, fakin dumb.

maybe they should stop trying to take advantage of every crisis situation to convert people. why cant the entire christian religion in general just be happy with being religious themselves, why do they feel they NEED to convert everyone and try to amke us all believe what they do?

They also lied about having the DR's permission to take them into that country.

For ignoring laws all over the place, they sure are getting off easy.

Yeah...I'm sure they were taking the kids to convert them. Maybe if they were muslim they would have been executed on video and released for viewing on al jazeera.

The part that got me is that they knowingly and intentionally took children that weren't orphans. As bad as the situation is, it shouldn't have been hard to find orphans. Hell, they could've found a few truckloads of orphans before the earthquake hit. Now they should be able to pluck 'em off every corner like apples on the ground at an orchard.

I wouldn't doubt that they would be trying to convert the kids if the country wasn't already 80% christian. But it is, so the kids were probably already catholic or protestant.

Oh noes...they would "convert" them to christians. BFD. IMO they should spend a few years in jail. You don't steal kids.
