****ing incredible composure. That man deserves a lifetime of twinkies!

While working at the test pilot training center at Ft Eustis we used to either simulate engine and hydraulic failures and/ or intentionaly disable flight control system during flight, and many of the pilots would misinterpret the problems or over/ under-react.

This pilot must be commended for his level headed reaction to the situation.

Just frigging AWESOME!

A "Broken Wing Award" to be proud of!

Oh, and major props to the ATC. Calm, collected and "on the ball".

I just love the dialogue in a situation where the passengers must have been freaking out and you must have at least thought for a spell your life might be about to end.

"We've cleared runway 1"
I'm going in the hudson
Ok, but we've cleared runway 1
I'm going in the hudson"

"I think he said he was going in the Hudson"

And the dialogue between the Pilot and F/O

"Got any ideas?"

"Actually no"

I love at the start he says "Great view of the Hudson today" when they take off, then minutes later got a real close look.

Never heard a scarier word than that use of "unable".

My thoughts as well. The guy keeps trying to give them runway info as they're going into the water. Unless there was a runway in the middle of the river, he'd already ruled that out.

He also transmitted a possible restart of the left engine which would have given them the thrust needed to land at one of the other airfields. He keeps getting Master Caution lights based on the co-pilots/ FO communication which is indicative of engine failure. So, considering those transmissions, the ATC was just relaying available options to the pilot.
