ummm yea anyways, ive said multiple times brandon marshall is my favorite player on the team to watch, hes a monster. doesnt change what he is though, and at this point you cant really believe anything he says about WANTING to stay on the team until its actually proved, same with mcdaniels saying he wants to keep him on the team, it can all be just public talk to try and drive up trade offers

I am starting to wonder. Is it possible that McDaniels tried to get Marshall upset by benching him on purpose, knowing he indeed was too injured to play, just to see how he would handle it? I mean, if he was told to behave and keep clean and quiet, was this a final way to test him?

I know this is far fetched, but the whole thing never really made sense in the first place, so at least I am hoping that it was something along these lines and he stays. The odds that we get a player of equal value for Marshall is slim to none.

Cromartie played like **** this year, if you think he is even on the level of Goodman you are badly wrong, he couldn't tackle a 5 year old.

Huff started hot but faded, but did have a very nice season and should have saved his career with that effort, Weddle is good but in no way great, statwise he was outplayed by Dawkins this year and in terms of intangibles the two aren't even on the same planet.

no way he signs either way, even if it makes him highest paid. unless hes absolutely convinced hes 100% changed, but even then his agent would definitely still say no as his agent is a bit more objective. Then, what you're saying is that he will not be playing for anybody next season.
Explain to me who in the right mind would draw a contract that offers no protection that woul allow a team to cover its ass in case of a suspension?
That will be laughed off the table if you think a team's legal counsel would allow such a stupidity to take place...

It's common knowledge where Marshall stands as far as the NFL Conduct Policy is concerned.
Any team willing to folk money out to get Marshall knows that.
That's not a problem if the contract includes stipulations that would address those issues. Stipulations that would null the contract if Marshall was to get in trouble that could earn him a lengthy suspension.
I think that's how the contract would be drawn to protect the interest of the team and of Marshall's as well...

The CBA limits the amount recoverable for such behavior, but this has been explained many times here.

Go look it up.I'm not very versed in legal issues as they pertain to the NFL. Somehow, I would assume any team would have some kind of clause in there when it comes down to Marshall.
I'm not saying that's a common practice, but given the concerns that Marshall's off-the-field issues history raise, that a team would have to feel obligated to structure a contract to minimize the risk of signing a player like Marshall

From denverbroncos.com

First, Marshall on his first Pro Bowl touchdown catch:
“That was my first touchdown catch because last year I dropped Peyton Manning’s touchdown and he gave me a hard stare. It feels good to get my first touchdown. My aunt is here, she’s probably my biggest fan and every time I score a touchdown she asks for the ball. I’m going to get that ball to her.”

The problem is that there are limits on the amount that a team can recover for conduct issues.

I know it's considerably less than $1 million.

If that 'recoverable' cap weren't there, I would think Bowlen would have agreed to a new contract for BM while Shanny was still here.

Remember, BM's attitude, before the season started, was about money and
his treatment by the team doctors in 2008.

McD wasn't involved, but he gets to solve the BM issue one way or another, but he's going to be talking to teams who have the same 'off-field' concerns and recovery limitations.

I wouldn't be shocked to see BM a Bronco next year.

What about signing bonus?
I think a team can recover that, can't they?
That would be another route they may go.
I remember in the case of both Henry and Vick that the their respective teams went after the signing bonus money after they both got in trouble

I would prefer to keep Marshall. We have the money to give him a nice contract, but I hope not at the expense of Doom or some great FA's. Let's make him rich, not rich, rich. It would save us from making the incredible mistake of drafting a WR in the first round, although I have to hope McD isn't that dumb regardless.

Wildcat was prohibited for Pro Bowl

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/02/02/wildcat-was-prohibited-for-pro-bowl/

Posted by Mike Florio on February 2, 2010 12:06 AM ET

Browns receiver Josh Cribbs told Todd Wright of Sporting News Radio on Monday that AFC coach Norv Turner had installed a package of Wildcat plays on offense, with Cribbs taking the direct snap.

But, in the end, no such plays were used.

So what happened? As Cribbs told Wright, the league decided not to allow the Wildcat formation.

The ruling arose, Cribbs said, from the long-standing rule against blitzing in the Pro Bowl. The NFL decided that, if the defenses aren't permitted to blitz, the offenses shouldn't be allowed to run the Wildcat.

But would it really protect the team? You give awway draft picks and count on BMarsh to be your #1 WR. Just because you can void the deal or get your signing bonus back doesn't make it OK. YOu still lost draft picks and you now don't have a very important member of your team.

You can tag them...if he wants. Really, they can't go anywhere if we don't want them to. It would cost us about $3m each per year. Very reasonable for 2010.

The tag for a QB is $3M? Same for a WR? Maybe a OLB, but i doubt the average of the top 5 QB's is $3M.

Edit: Looked it up. For 2010 Franchise/Transition:
Linebacker $9.68M / $8.373M
Wide Receiver $9.521M / $8.651M
Quarterback $16.4M / $14.546M

So the 3 would cost you approx. $32.44M if you tagged them all (1 franchise and 2 transitions)

BTW. The only thing you can get franchised for $3M is a punter/kicker.
