Cecil Lammey just told me that our new DC Don Martindale is one of Elvis' three personal guests at the Pro Bowl in Miami.

We'll see, I don't think it's indicative of anything other than Dumervil thanking Martindale for coaching him up.

The Post had a story about that today. Doom sure isn't talking like a guy is even considering going anywhere...

"He was a great linebackers coach," Dumervil said minutes after McDaniels called him to inform him of Martindale's promotion. "He taught me a lot. This will be a great opportunity for him to show what he can do. Having a guy from in-house as defensive coordinator is really beneficial. He may be my fifth coordinator as a Denver Bronco, but then again, he really isn't because he already knows our personnel."

He didn't have to invite Wink, but chose to. It's more good than it is bad, IMO.

You realize we hold all the cards, right? If we want him, we'll keep him.

Well what was he going to say? "No, You can't come to the Pro Bowl with me?" I'm sure McDaniels is making him do it for PR and Wink is just yesing it up in order to get a free trip to Florida. He'll be a Dolphin by the end of the week.

Keeping Dumervil was always about the money, I don't think there is any doubt that the team likes him and he seems to like the team. It is always good when a coach and player has a good relationship, so hopefully we can talk him into taking a bit of a hometown discount.

I won't feel totally secure until I see McDaniels hold up a Dumervil jersey at this year's owners/coaches meetings.

hahahaha anyways, doom is awesome and its nice to have a same-scheme in house promotion so there really isnt any transition phase or time for the coach to need to learn the players, he knows em all and their abilities

As it should be.

He should go wherever he gets the best offer.

Keeping any player is 9 times out of 10 about the money. It's the same with Marshall.

It would be great if Dumervile gave a hometown discount, but also amazingly stupid on his part to do so.

If I were him, I'd take 60 mil instead of 65 to stay in Denver....but thats pretty much it.

Btw, thats the contract size we're looking at to keep him, right?

It will be money that keeps him in Denver.

End of discussion.

Fans want to think the NFL is a people business. it's not. It's a money business, from the players to the owners to the networks and the league itself. Regardless of what Dumervil feels personally, he will play where he maximizes his income. That's not absolute, but it is the general rule of things.
