Broncos consider Martindale for coordinator
By Jeff Legwold
The Denver Post

Though Dean Pees is considered the frontrunner to be the Broncos' next defensive coordinator, Denver linebackers coach Don Martindale is being considered for the job, according to two NFL sources.

Martindale, 46, was hired last year as part of coach Josh McDaniels' first staff with the Broncos. Martindale has been a linebackers coach since coming into the NFL in 2004 as a member of the Oakland Raiders' coaching staff.

He had been with the Raiders until he was hired by McDaniels. Martindale has not been a defensive coordinator since 1999 when he was at Western Illinois University.

Pees was defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots before parting ways with the team last week.

The Broncos parted ways with defensive coordinator Mike Nolan on Monday. Nolan became the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday.

This would make me nervous... Though it did work out well when Coyer was promoted.

Heard Andra Davis on the radio, and Darrell Reid on Twitter both hoping Martindale gets it. Probably because he is their position coach, but it is nice to see that the players would support this.

Why not? At least he would be an interesting and less depressing storyline. Kind of like electing Jesse Ventura to a public office. I'm in.

Way to go out there on a limb. :wiggle:

I say McD has no idea who "wows" him, so he'll go with Pees who he knows already, Martindale will be pissed off he got teased, will join Tom Cable at Tampa Bay in 2011.

I just hope that he gets the position and they keep the defense patriots run a two gap and we do not have the talent to run that type of defense plus they just don't seem to be an attacking style defense. I for one am disgusted about us losing Nolan he was great at making in game adjustments

Seriously, I have no idea what the D staff will look like. It might be best to give the job to Martindale who is familiar with the personnel and staff instead of bringing in someone new that is not at all familiar with the personnel and staff.

Sounds a lot like Champ Bailey and other secondary players vouching for Slowik....and we all know how that turned out.

I still hope Pepper Johnson comes in for an interview and gets the job.

He's my #1 choice because he looks like a crankster. I want this bad ass mother****er leading our defense!

I guess if there is the Rooney rule there must be the McD rule: team has to interview at least one non-patriots connected coach.
