Broncos linebackers coach Don Martindale is believed to be Dean Pees' main competition for the vacant defensive coordinator position.
Pees is considered the favorite to land the job, but the 46-year-old Martindale is a dark horse candidate. He entered league with the Raiders in 2004 and was passed over the defensive coordinator position in Oakland at this time last year.

Umm... we haven't had a yes-man yet, boss.

Are you remembering Shanahan-Slowick, maybe?

So anyone promoted is bound to be a yes man now? I wouldnt mind this, he obviously knows the D. Not much would change.

DO NOT ****ING WANT.

Give me a proven DC and let the position coaches keep position coaching.

Based on what's out there right now I want Pees.

The more I read about Pees the more it scares me. Pees isn't a blitz type DC, or at least wasn't in NE. The Patriots were second in Sacks during 2007 under Pees and have been above the middle of the pack the last two years.

But many reports and sports beat writers say he doesn't blitz aggressive.

I just want to sack the F'n QB and win.

Name a solid blitzing and proven 3-4 DC out there right now? McDaniels want's the Patriot way, which means he's going to Lean towards Pees.

I just don't see Martindale getting the job since McDaniels is going through pics/strats on the sideline when the D is out there. He's going to want someone he knows has it covered.

I don't think he's all that much of a darkhorse candidate. I'm pretty sure that Pees has some medical problems. I was thinking that it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Martindale, Nunnly or Donatelle be promoted to DC. I'd be okay with that.

i think pees has been pure speculation so far, martindale obviously made it known hes interested so i agree its not a huge darkhorse

“Our linebackers coach, Don Martindale, would be great. When it’s your position coach, you know them a lot more from being around them. Your relationship is more personal. The way he had us prepare, coach Wink (Martindale’s nickname) definitely knew his X’s and O’s. Hands down, Wink is one of the best coaches I have worked with,” emphasized Davis.
Davis and two other Broncos defenseman suggested coach Martindale was the best internal candidate to replace Nolan when asked on Monday.

another yes man

Martindale is far from a yes man and he's a great coach. I'd be ALL FOR THIS!!! In fact, I'd probably prefer him to Pees considering Martindale would be a long term solution. Think about what he got out of the Raider's LBs in Morrison and Howard. Think about how well he's done in his short time here getting outstanding production from guys like Haggan, Doom, DJ and Andra. This is the guy that I was talking (raving) about during training camp. I'll never forget the tackling drills (the ones that Shanny never had in camp!) he ran during the first weeks of camp. "Quit being a p*$$y and hit him like you're a F***ing football player! He's got pads on and he's falling into a big ass pillow, you ain't gonna hurt him!" DJ Williams had his best tackling year as a pro and I have no doubt it was under Martindale's tutelage.

All for Martindale!
