San Diego President Dean Spanos signed Head Coach Norv Turner to a three-year contract extension Monday.

San Diego President Dean Spanos signed Head Coach Norv Turner to a three-year contract extension Monday, extending his contract through the 2013 season.
“I’m extremely proud of the job Norv has done with this team,” said Spanos. “In three seasons he’s led the team to three division titles. I’m confident that if we strengthen our roster and continue to provide Norv the assets he needs, this team will have continued success.”
Turner has the top overall winning percentage in team history at .648 (35-19) as well as the top regular-season percentage (32-16, .667). The Chargers are 13-0 in December under Turner and 4-3 in January. His three playoff wins is tied for most in team history. The team’s 13 wins in 2009 are the second most in team history, and includes a team-record 7-1 on the road and a 4-0 sweep of the NFC East. The team exhibited discipline under pressure, committing the second-fewest turnovers (17) and the third-fewest penalty yards (570) during the regular season. Its 78 penalties are the fewest by the Chargers since 1976 when there were 14-game seasons.
Turner’s leadership did not go unnoticed nationally as USA Today named him its NFL Coach of the Year.

Awesome. Guaranteed mediocrity, folding, and playoff losses for another 4 seasons.

Well, to be fair, SD has proven they are playoff chokers no matter who coaches them or how many pro-bowl players they have.

The goods news for you is the Chargers probably won't win a SB in the next three years.

The bad news is you definitely won't win a division title in the next three years.

At least we know the Chargers will not win a SB in the next 3 yrs...which means it could be another decade before they even get to play in a SB since all the talent will be gone or past its prime after 3 yrs.

You have to give Norv credit for what he's done with Rivers. He also turned the team around after they performed poorly early.

Still, he's frickin Norv.

It's like Wade Phillips. You know **** is gonna find him. And neither guy really seems to be a really rotten person like Billicheat or Martz.

Hey, I'll take that over Marty, who choked against the Broncos and in the playoffs.

I said earlier that Norv finally won me over this season. He had a one dimensional offense and a d-line full of scrubs. To me, that's great coaching by Norv and Rivera.

The past two years were bad luck in the playoffs. This is the first year I would consider a 'choke' under Norv. You can point out dozens of different things that happened during the game but at the end of the day the biggest goat was the kicker. And I don't know how you can blame the coach when the Pro-Bowl kicker decides to miss every kick that day.
