Pepper Johnson would make me happy. I'd also give alot of consideration to Ed Donatell as well despite the fact he ran 4-3 defenses during his time in Green Bay and Atlanta.

I really do not want Pees.

Joe Collier is in his late 80s so I dont see that one. But, he did work as a Pats coach (or was it bills ;both?) so McD might want him here. I am just sick we lost a key part of getting this team back to winning the division.

He's such an f'ing dirty muther ... talented but what an ass.

I say let's trade with Shanahan ... let's get Haynesworth and plug him in as a 3-4 DE (I'm serious here).

He'll give us Haynesworth in excange for Hillis, Scheffler and a 3rd round pick :)

There are a lot of interesting candidates out there. I'll say that much.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos are discussing ex-Patriots DC Dean Pees as a potential replacement for departed defensive coordinator Mike Nolan.

An interview hasn't been set up yet, but Pees is a logical pick to join coach Josh McDaniels' staff because they worked together in New England. Pees, 60, was on the Patriots' staff for six years. His contract expired after 2009.

How about Kirby Smart?

Smart began his coaching career with the University of Georgia in 1999, serving one season as an administrative assistant. He then moved to Valdosta State where he spent two seasons as defensive backs coach then being promoted to defensive coordinator in the 2001 season. Between the 2002–2003 football season, Smart was a graduate assistant under Bobby Bowden at Florida State. Smart spent one season in 2004 under LSU head coach Nick Saban. Smart then moved back to the Georgia Bulldogs football program as he served as the team's running backs coach for the 2005 season. His only season in the NFL occurred in 2006 in which he served under Nick Saban again, this time as Miami's safeties coach.
In January 2007, Smart once again followed Nick Saban after Saban was named the head football coach at the University of Alabama. On January 9, Saban named Smart as an assistant coach[2]. On February 27, 2008, Smart was promoted to the team's defensive coordinator.[3]
On December 8, 2009, Smart was awarded the Broyles Award for the nation's best assistant coach. He is the first Alabama assistant coach to win the award.[4]
Smart considered a lucrative contract to be the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, the University of Georgia, but chose to stay with the Tide in early January 2010. (wiki)

I'm not a big fan of Pees, he seems to have a health problem...and I don't want him to stick around for the short term, or leave this team in limbo if health problems arise again during the season.

This is my concern also. The dude is 60 with health issues, he has had some very good D's but having health issues at his age is scarry. I am 42 with health issues, I can't imagine what he is going through at 60.

I am staying out of the DC hunt because last time I wanted someone I asked for Bates and had to live with one of the worst D's ever...

He has a certain way about himself, that's for sure...and that's what this defense needs. An attitude adjustment...with all these slides the last few years, we need someone to bring a certain mentality.

Pepper Johnson reminds me of Rex Ryan, someone that doesn't give a flip about anyone else but his team.

This year's slide didn't have anything to do with mentality.

Yeah it did, team didn't play a full 60 minutes on the field. I saw sporadic effort at times. Case in point, with the playoffs potentially on the line and the team goes ahead and allows a lowly Chiefs team to run up 40 plus points on you in your house...says to me that not a lot of players gave a crap.

Then we have Tony Scheffler saying he can't wait for the season to end, not caring about the playoffs. I doubt he was the only one feeling that way. Like I said, just look at the Chiefs game tape.

Joel Collier,he's only 18 years older than Pees.He was a patriot assistant(early 60's),a head coach with the Bills. He was architect of the Orange Crush 3-4 defense. His son is secondary coach now with the chiefs and before that an assistant coach with New England.
Doesn't it make sense, the connections and being a 3-4 Guru?
