HUGE tailgate party at Alexandra Palace of Industry(opposite Wembley Arena) which opens at 11am on gameday and goes on until about 4pm - but most people start leaving at the back of 3, either because they have seen enough or just want to get into the stadium in plenty time before the game starts.

It's a MASSIVE open-air concrete area. The tailgate usually has a stage with good music, EA Game Tent, Team information displays, food stands, beer stands, Hall of Fame tent, merchandise areas and so much more.
One of the things our American visitors comment on every year is that our tailgates are totally different to theirs - we don't have BBQ's in the back of cars like they do. The Wembley tailgate is an event which is all about, for a lack of a better term, milking the cash cow.
I don't know about car parking at the stadium because I always use the Tube to get to Wembley, but I would say it is best to leave the car at home and use public transport to get to the stadium.

I will probably catch an early morning flight on the Saturday, watch a game in the afternoon and I am free after that.
Do you have a specific venue in mind for the Saturday piss up? Any idea where you´re going to stay? Wemberlee at least is on the right side of the city coming from Heathrow so I won´t have to go across the whole city.

That's Australian Mate. You better get the England for Dummies book before you make that trip. Bronco Blue, sounds like there needs to be an old American Tailgate with the tents, cars, etc. with some serious meat grilling. If you are going to bring American Football to England, you have to show them American tailgatting. Orange and Blue jerseys all around the grill drinking, eating and cussing. If you are going to do it, do it right! Plus, only the local yokals will be in the stadium early to see what the whole "Football" fuss is about. Warm ups arent that exciting.

Not living in Denver and not having season tickets I might not get the info...any help would be great...maybe if we have enough people we can talk to a travel agent (do they even exist anymore?) and maybe they could do a package for X amount of people...just a thought

Tickets are also a concern for me since we're (or I, I should say) am unsure that I can swing this. We'd like to go with other Maners, but won't know for sure till we check things out a bit deeper. Just afraid of being left out in the cold I guess.

My wife and I have been talking about it all weekend...I am going to talk to someone Monday to see what she could do for us by getting a "group rate" for airfare and hotel...we used her for our Paris trip in Ocotber of '08 there was 20 of us from all around the country and she got each one of us rates on based on where we were flying out of. I don't know if she would do this for us, but worth a try. I figured I would tell her we have maybe 20 from different parts of the country that want to go to London for a week and see what she says...it doesn't hurt to ask. We could go to the game but also maybe have her set up city tours the week before or after depending on what others want to do.

Call me superstitious but I don't want to start making tailgate plans or whatever untill my tickets are confirmed!! I've registered an interest in NFLUK, and I managed to do it before the game was announced which may or may not help me, however they haven't even gone on sale yet and untill that sorts itself out I don't want to count my chickens.....
With respect to Wembley itself however, the new wembley was designed to be a 'public transport venue' - meaning that the car park is miniscule and not generally open to the public on gameday. This is why other 'tailgate' parties tend to spring up in other areas becuase you tend not to be able to do it anywhere near the ground itself!
Also, you must greet the term 'public transport venue' with a raised eyebrow: make sure you leave HOURS before the game is due to start and leave PLENTY of time to get home afterwards - its always a bit of a crush. Within the last couple of hours before the game kicks off, if you don't get on the tube in the centre of town, basically you're not getting on the tube.
I've been to the new wembley twice: once for the first international NFL game (Giants/Miami) and once for an england (soccer) match. For the former I managed to swing some corporate hospitality so turned up hours in advance and had coffee & cookies afterwards so ti wasn't too bad. For the latter i just had normal tickets and travelling to and from was a MUCH less pleasant experience.....
Don't get me wrong: I'm totally excited about this and think its going to be an awesome day, but any americans thinking they'll be able to treat it like a normal game in the US will have to re-think their plans. I love the stadium but transport and access is one aspect of it that is less than ideal.....
Miss I.

This is true. I have also registered my interest. I have asked for 6 tickets which is all it seemed to let me do, weird. anyway, if we can get tickets then heck yes, but of course I live 30 minutes away from Wembley so it's not a big thing for me in terms of travel. But I fully endorse a tailgate if we can get the tickets. I am so siked they are coming, they never broadcast Broncos games here, I stream them, they broadcast a lot of other lame teams though...stinking Dolphins and Pats and Cowgirls and Vikings, sighh

A question for you blokes in the UK, is there a district in London that is similar to LoDo's here in Denver?

Lodos: http://www.lodosbarandgrill.com/ At least I assume this what they are referring too. I think they want a good pub - sports bar that actually does maybe have some american football appreciation. Most of the pubs that I have been in, if they show sports, it's usually Euro or UK stuff (soccer, rugby, etc). I have never been to Lodos so I don't know much about it. Either that or maybe we could jack a double decker bus and turn it all orange and blue and make our own party. ;D

I concede, I am an idiot. The irony of which is I've been there, lived in Colorado and completely spaced it out. Well, teaches me to post what I don't know. I guess I can't move back to CO in 3 years as clearly, I would fail the entrance exam. Anyway, ya'll enjoy the game if you go. I will definitely be going to the game if I can get tickets, but it seems unlikely the tailgate as I will probably do that with my fellow Denver transfers out in our neck of the woods before heading to the game. Forgive me - I got the impression that was what it was but I decided to be slightly sarcastic.....hope you don't mind....
London's a large and sprawling city, so doesn't really have a specific 'section' like that, rather it offers a few different options depending upon what you're after.....
The obvious:
The area between Picadilly circus and Leicester square (literally between the two tube stations bearing the same names) is probably the tourism epicentre of London so if you're looking for more generic, run of the mill attractions then this is the place for you. You have all the chains like pizza hut, TGI Fridays etc as well as many bars and the like - of especial interest may be the Sports cafe on Haymarket (www.thesportscafe.com/london/) - this is where I went to see the AFC championship vs the Jets in Jan 1999 and its always full of your fellow americans... This area in general has many bars and restaurants but they are mixed in with shops and even a few theatres, its not entirely food and booze....
The Trendy:
Immediately north of this area is SOHO - more or less the area south of Oxford street between tottenham court road and Oxford Circus tube stations. This is where the trendier bars are nestling in between the trendier clothing boutiques (including the famous Carnaby street). Still relatively tourist-y (all of central London is really) but the range of food is a little more eclectic (eg Thai, Indian etc) and there are also a few gay bars (as well as a few that swing both ways) that add to the local colour so to speak.
The In-Between:
Slightly east of both of these areas you'll find Covent Garden, which is a bit more shopping-orientated but still has a number of bars and restaurants and offers a bit of a mixture of the two areas outlined above. For anyone wishing to try the authentic British 'Pub' experience I can reccomend the lamb and flag (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/69/692/Lamb_and_Flag/Covent_Garden) although that's more for ambience than the beer as I'm not a real ale officionado....
Further out from the centre there are other areas like Notting Hill and Angel (Islington) that have decent nightlife and are a little less tourist-oriented, but they're only really reccomended if you're spending any length of time as other wise the journey to and from Wembley may become a little more complicated...
Its also worth pointing out that Central London is Sooooo decidedly not set up around a Grid system like New York and other american cities.....if you think that turning left three times will always bring you back to where you started you will get horribly, horriby lost.....invest in a map.
Of course it is a big city - one of the great world cities, and I can't honestly say that even having lived here as long as I have means I've fully explored it. You should also note that I hardly ever go south of the river so I can't tell you anything about roughly 50% of the place....of course if you want to ever get to the game YOU shouldn't go south of the river either as the tube doesn't penetrate very far out there.
Hope that helps - I'm far from being the foremost authority on going out and having a good time but I've had a few wasted evenings in my time...enjoy....

Hmm.....I lived there for 3 months back in my college days. It was the summer but it felt like Octoberfest anyway. The beer gardens were always packed and a great time.
We got time to plan this but if a few of you want to venture to Munich that would be cool. I'm thinking I may continue on to Poland and beyond and see some other family. WWII spread us all over the place. Those were tough times but it's kinda cool having family all over that area. In fact I probably have more out there then I do in the states.

Good stuff, probably will be staying in Notting Hill, saw some condos online for rent for a week there. Pretty nice, and makes sense money wise since there will be 4-5 of us going instead of booking 2-3 hotel rooms.

Decent area to stay in - fairly well stocked with pubs, bars and restaurants (and probably clubs as well but its been a while for me....) and not too far from the centre of the city. Also, on gameday, not too bad to get to wembley from. I'd reccomend getting on the central line and then changing onto the Jubilee line at Bond street becuase then you'll be getting on the train to wembley before the majority of other people (You may even get a seat!). I'd imagine you get a good rate on the flat (i think that's what we call 'condos' over here) in late October as well as you;re outside of the summer and christmas peaks.....
