Citing unnamed "people up and down the organizational chart," the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis will meet with coach Tom Cable today "to discuss all the reasons he'll get fired."

According to the Chronicle, the only question is whether Cable will be fired for cause.

Last week it was reported that Davis was likely to fire Cable. For his part, however, Cable described himself as "pretty sure" he'd return as the Raiders' coach for the 2010 season.

The truth is, no one knows what Davis will do. But if Cable is pretty sure he's going to remain the Raiders' coach, he's the only one.
----

I actually think Cable is a good thing for Oakland; so his removal is a good thing for the Broncos in my mind.

At some point in time, a troupe of carnies have got to end up with that job as a committee.

Chucky has never really said anything bad about Al Davis or Oakland, it's possible he returns. But I'm guessing he'll take a shot at Fassel.

Cable was the only thing keeping Jamarcbust off the field :D

The more that organization has turnover and instability, the closer to the NFL cellar they'll stay. Good stuff!

Here is 1 vote for Tom Cable to be hired as the O-line coach if Dennison takes the Texans job. He would be a great hire and should bring a lot to help our power run game.

You know that idea's not half bad. He'd especially get our big uglies fired up to play the Raiders :D He just seems like such a repugnant person though, I can't stand the sight of him. But maybe that works if you're in the O line business.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

He was changing the way of thinking down there. Making players responsible for their actions i.e taking the multi milliodollar man Jamarcus and making him 3rd string. I hate the Raiders, but liked Tom Cable. They were in a lot of games this year, and I believe that to be directly connected to his philosophy.

I'd take him in as an assistant of some sort. Maybe just to kick the **** out of B-Marsh?

Mike Leach to Oakland!

FU I want Leach to be Denver's head coach in 2011.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cable as oline coach for the Broncos. He knows about living in the area after being an assistant for the CU Buffs in the late 90's.

This makes Oakland weaker. Doubt that Chuckie will go back there - he's enjoying his Monday night football gig.

Chucky didn't have to say anything bad about Al. And I'm sure Al said more bad about him. Besides he is not coaching this next year and possibly not till he turns 50 which is a few years down the road.

Can't talk about the raiders as a laughingstock anymore (even if they are) they've effectively knocked the Broncos out of the playoffs 2 years in a row.

Trivia Question for Raider fans:

What is the history of the job title Al Davis gave himself - "Manager of the General Partner"?

I actually thought Cable had those guys playing tough...

I thought he did too. They had some impressive wins this year.

In the end, the best Oakland can hope to do in any given year is play spoiler as long as Davis keeps blowing their high draft picks. Gallery - Fabian Washington - Michael Huff - JaMarcus - McFadden - Heyward Bey. Unbelievable.

Seriously, and as I hoped before, Cable will be fired for benching J-fatty. Cable's a good coach. Him leaving the Raiders would be a boon to Denver.

Finding out who the next head coach of the Raiders will be is one of my favourite parts of every offseason!

Chucky has taken a few well crafted shots at Al Davis in the MNF booth. One example was his story of how Al came in and informed him that his 1st draft choice as a head coach would be Woodson. He then said he was glad Al did it but the message was that Al didn't treat him with respect.

I agree. They ran well, manned up well, played with heart, and played 'D' well. They were a legit passing attack away from competing for the play offs. Cable figured they woulda made the play offs had he not stuck with Russell so long.

And there you have it. Chuckie gets the Raiders to places they hadnt seen in 20 years. And what is his reward? Fired for not playing long ball. Cable looks like he might have the team playing hard again. And his reward? Canned for not loving Al's pet project.

Gotta love Oaktown. They will play themselves right outta respectability.

The raiders played much better than would be expected in the 2nd half of the season plus Cable has handle the Russel situation well. Good for the broncos if he goes IMO.
