Once at a Mississippi gas station, a trucker dude offered me some crawfish in exchange for gas money.... weirdest way I have ever been hit up for cash....

Cheap beachfront vacation, good fishing, good food and gambling for those who indulge.

One of the best restaurants (Chappy's) used to be in (I think) Gulfport or Biloxy until it was wipe off the map by Katrina.

He never rebuilt, moved his restaurant to Memphis (I think).

Being the huge blues fan I am, well Delta blues for the most part.

I will fly into Memphis and spend some time there.

Rent a car and travel the blues highway, will for sure stop in Clarksdale.

And visit a few grave sites, retrace the steps of Charley Patton and all that ****.

Anything to watch out for?

I was stationed at NAS Millington outside of memphis in 1995 when I was in the Marines. We went to Beale St every weekend when we had liberty. What a cool place. Full of all kinds of characters, cool bars, great music and great food.

We would go to a club called 616, we had a system to be able to drink underage with their wristband system. Not Blues in there back then, but we saw 9 inch nails...good times and a few loose women.

Nope, but I plan on going this fall. It always interferes with football season though!

Don't smoke any of those "wrinkly cigarettes" being passed around if you attend. I hear they might be bad for your complexion.ROFL!

It's on the west bank of the River. It's practically Mississippi, and a big part of the delta blues, the real blues. I wish -slap- was still around to post in this thread.

Are you familiar with Junior's site?

http://www.deltablues.net/

It hasn't been updated in awhile but there's still quite a bit of useful info there.

I made the same trip you're about to take in 1997 (Memphis, down US 61 and eventually to NOLA) It's pretty cool. Also, be advised that Junior Kimbrough's place is long gone(burned down years ago).

Yes, those ghosts that pop up in those graves. I always want to take one of those trips to hit Memphis and see the old Rockabilly places (Sun Records) and even head down south for some old R and B. Adam, when are you going and is it just you and Frannie? My ideal trip is taking some killer vintage cars and head across the country stopping in the local bars that have bands playing rockabilly and old Buck Owens type country. Just keep driving and checking out the country until we hit Memphis. Have fun!

Oh yeah, that sounds ****ing sweet man.

That would be the trip of a lifetime, free out on the open road.

Mostly likely just me and "Fanny", I may go this year or next year.

Need to save up some vacation time, I want to go for at least week or two.

Make sure you hit up "The Shed." Its a BBQ/Blues joint in Ocean Springs, MS (just north of Biloxi). You will not regret it...Best BBQ I've ever had...and great atmosphere.

Its a road familiar to musicians. Robert Plant had a sort of awakening while traveling the Natchez Trace.

Yes, I remember reading about that some where a while back.

I cant wait to visit Charley Patton's grave, seems small to most but cool to me.
