View Full Version : Even if McD were fired and Marshall wanted back...

Would you want him back? I thought he had an exceptional year and turned the corner. The hugs with McD, the rumored emotional moments they shared after a few different games. Then back to same ole Brandon with the Hammy. IMO, even if you fired McD which I don't think should happen nor do I want it to, I wouldn't want BMarsh back.

Best case scenario for the Broncos right now, bring in an extremely savvy GM. I think McD can deliver in games (even though the 2nd half of the season suggests otherwise) I just think he's failing miserably in the personnel department. Unfortunately Pat Bowlen has never been one to have a top notch GM. The Browns were smart in doing that with Holmgren. I'd like to see the Broncos take a similar approach. Keep coach McD and bring in a GM that can deal with personnel issues. He can even take a hard line stance on the players but at least it buffers the coach from having to do so. What we're doing doesn't seem to be working. Pat thought it was Shanny, but Shanny had the same issues. Thoughts?

What i think is Mcd doesn't know how to coach NFL player's.He needs to be fired.
Regarding Brandon, I think he will play for us if we give good contract.
All NFL player's(especially WR's) will have some attitude issues.
It is the coach responsibility to take care of them.

Mcd is fit to coach a college team and not a NFL team.

Brandon Marshall was playing for a contract, what's he gonna do when he actually get his $$$?

My guess is catch more balls and try to get more $$$ like every other WR.

They misdiagnosed him last offseason, and he had to go in and get hip surgery afterwards. I don't blame the guy for being careful. I think he's a petulant kid. But I don't blame him for being careful.

Guess I'm the minority here. I dont' want to sign a player long term that you cannot count on. Simple as that, I wouldn't trust BMarsh to $$$$$$

Not so sure he was being careful and remember once upon a time Mike Shanahan had to make him play after a few weeks of him not wanting to go out there with a PULLED HAMMY... or was it a quad, whatever. There is a history.

Yeah but who would you trust? We don't know any of these guys. What do you look for in a player, what makes you think another guy would do better, etc?

I'm not trying to be sarcastic either. I know Brandon has had his issues. But in terms of getting a long-term contract, how do any of us know that another player would do any better with it?

you will have difficulty in forming an NFL team with good player's.
I am not talking about player's like Orton,Jordon..

And some just waltz by on talent after they get it. Others keep working hard.

Considering his history what do you think is more likely with him?

Not only this, but lets think about this from a business standpoint. Biggest Sunday of the year, a lot of eyes watching these games with playoff potential. It would be extremely short-sighted of Brandon to fake an injury to "get revenge" on McDaniels and/or the Broncos. A big game out of Brandon today would have just made his value go way up. Even if Brandon isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, you'd have to imagine that an agent, manager, whatever would have told him the best way to get the $$$ he craves is to go play and play really well.

This is why I don't necessarily buy any of this talk about him dogging it or dropping balls on purpose. It's an extremely short-sighted maneuver that I'm sure an agent or manager would talk him out of.

No if you're a me guy... He has those "catch phrase" numbers in hand and thats all he needs at the bargaining table. 100 catches, double digit TD's, pro bowl and a record setting 21 catch game. Brandon has no interest in being back in Denver unless they give him the biggest paycheck. He got his "catch phrases", so why risk injury for 1 game that he couldn't care less if the Broncos won or lost?
For Brandon, it's all business.

He did say he was going to treat it like a business from here on out. I'm not saying he wasn't treated wrong last year. I think he was. I think he put out for the team even whilst he was injured. Too much of a risk for me though. Take the $50m you'd have to pay him and spread that around and bring in a couple of guys that are looking to make their names and will leave it ALL on the field. Jason Avant, Malcolm Floydd, Mark Clayton... those are a few of the guys that I think we could target in free agency. If the Ravens deal for BMarsh we may not even have to give up very high picks for Clayton. I imagine they would tender him but perhaps at a 3rd?

So? That's kind of the point of being a free agent. That he'll sign with the team that offers him the best financial deal tells me he's a rational person.

Except that this is not the issue. Whether he "exaggerated" an injury in order to not play out of fear of injury is one thing....but what I am taking issue with is the completely different suggestion that its somehow wrong not to resign with Denver if Denver doesnt offer top dollar. This is a business. Period. No one owes anyone anything.

Over 300 catches the last three years... just two 1st round choices and he could be coming to a city near you!

Thanks the memories Brandon (Rip DWill), good luck where ever you end up. You're supremely talented but your lack of speed will limit how far you go in the game.

I hope we can sucker somebody into paying a huge bounty for this guy. I'm afraid McD self sabotaged that by taking his info public.

Well I agree that if he could injure himself long term, then you're right. He's going to look out for himself and not play. With that said, if it was possible to injure himself long term, then perhaps he wasn't faking like people have insinuated?

I don't think it was ever about injuring himself long term. I think he is butt hurt about not getting a contract and isn't going to take any chances until he does. I think he was looking forward to playing "injured" so that he could put just one more feather in his hat. But, after three weeks of crap piling up and some of the "team leaders" (the same ones that went to the media) going to McD and saying they wanted accountability... well, McD did what he thought was best and is now trying to sort through everything. You can tell that he will reach out to BMarsh and talk this over/out. Scheff, not so much so.
