The Lord Savior Jesus Christ?

Tim Tebow said that. But why? Jesus didn't want the other team to win!

Because people are deluded and weak-minded.

Of course he's going to pull for the Gators. Jesus doesn't even know what a Bear Cat is. It's blasphemous. Like the spork. You think Jesus is using a spork in heaven? Of course not.

Obviously Jesus prefers the Gators... did you even have to ask?

I think Jesus can give you strength and will. I dont think he gives a rat's ass about what team wins a football game. If that was the case, then Kurt Warner had him on his side for the superbowl agains tthe Titans ("Thank youuuu Jeeeesus!"), but then Jesus left him and went with Tom Brady and the Cheating Patriots the following year. Maybe he is a gambler and goes where his money line lays?

It's a pagan thing really that transferred over when Christianity in Europe swallowed up pagan cults in the Dark Ages.

Gods in those days actually served a belief function of truly blessing you before you went into battle. Thor favored those who were most valiant in decapitating their foes. And you better thank him for it afterwards or he'd thunderbolt your ass.

Of course the whole notion of Christianity negate the idea of God siding with anyone in any battle which makes all the pagan rites ridiculous. But at least we're seeing it trend downward. I mean it used to be things like "God grant us strength when we go on the Crusades!" Now it's like "let us beat the Giants on Sunday!"

I mean they have a better chance appealing to Thor or Tyr or one of the warrior gods. Maybe they don't exist, but Jesus sure isn't going to favor anyone over anyone else. Better going for the wispy remnants of old pagan beliefs.

And then one must ask... why do you care?

His faith must have done something for him in his life. It hardened his discipline to become one of the greatest champions in college football history and he's about get paid amounts 99% of us could only dream about.

Put down the hatorade and step away from the keyboard.

yes because in judaism god never took sides.

Well as if he's real, but if he is and you go by what the new testament says then no, he wouldn't take sides. People might say he does but he never comes down and gets involved or whatever.

If you mean the hebrew god of the old testament, which would make sense since you said judaism, and the one that is still worshipped in the Jewish faith then maybe. But still, I wasn't talking about that Yehweh, I was talking about the other one.

To be serious, everybody finds themselves in situations where they need to draw strength from somewhere in order to make it happen. For Tim Tebow, it's his faith. Even an athiest can see that whatever you think about the existence of God, the net effect of his faith has taken him a long ways. I personally love it when I hear a man express his gratitude to Jesus Christ. Or for that matter, whatever it is that gives them inspiration to climb to new pinnacles. Typically, they do it at a moment when they're on the top, and for me, it's a refreshing peek into what makes them tick as both a person and a competitor.

And I still don't believe Jesus uses a spork.

For Tim Tebow it is god, for Shawne Merriman it is steroids and for Tiger Woods it is banging waitresses with sprayon tans. To each his own.

This does beg the question, who did Jesus go to in moments of need.

God is not a genie in a bottle. He doesnt grant wishes. If he doesnt grant wishes, then he's obviously not going to rig a game similar to the way the David Stern Refereeing Company does in the NBA.

What God does for guys like Tebow is to give them calm amidst the storm on the field and to give them confidence that they are not alone in that endeavor. God's presence my not win the game persay, but it can and will give you the strength to accomplish what you can.

Meh, he can say whatever he likes, and if believing in an invisible daddy figure in the sky gives him confidence in his game -- more power to him.

The only time such pronouncements irk me is in situations where the people who actually deserve thanks for an act get pased over -- e.g. doctors, pilots who crash land planes safely, etc.

Dont be so dishonest.

They all "irk" you. If they didn't you wouldnt have insisted on insulting every person who believes in God with your ridiculous, intellectually dishonest statement. Otherwise you would have passed this thread over without a second thought. The "skydaddy" idea is ludicrous.

Uh-huh, keeeep digging boy, keep digging. Your bluster and thin skins makes it quite clear that you're projecting your own insecurities on to me. Perhaps, as I mentioned before, you should take care of your own before attacking others?

Moreover, I don't hate religious people. Never have I said that. I say religion (of all types) is false (and depending on how people take it, somewhere between irrational and moronic) and I speak out when those myths are forced on me or others, but I don't hate religious people.

He went into the desert 40 days and nights and was tempeted 3 times. Even given the realm of hell itself if he chose to relenquish it's path.

who did Jesus go to in moments of need.

The father, altho it was his moment of doubt, he was forgiven and raised.

So he prayed to himself? That seems to be in conflict with the sin of vanity. Unless of course Christians are finaly willing to give up the silly idea that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are 1 united god and take their place among the polytheistic religions.

Ah...here comes the Trinity! ;D

Many Christians believe that Jesus was fully human, but was inhabited by the full spirit of God. Thus, needing to pray and then praying would obviously be part of the human experience. Existentialists like Kirkegaard have interesting modern perspectives on this idea.
