Chris Henry in serious car accident
Dec 16th, 2009 by Micah Warren

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was involved in a major car accident in North Carolina, according to Joe Reedy.

“Chris Henry involved in an accident in Charlotte. Injuries are believed to be very serious #bengals,” he tweets.

The Bengals have acknowledged the situation, but few details are available. Henry was in North Carolina to visit his girlfriend.

Henry was scheduled to become a free agent after this season, but this car accident – depending on the severity, remember Tiger Woods was originally involved in a “very serious” car accident – could put his career in jeopardy.

Chris Henry suffers "very serious" injuries in car accident

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/12/16/chris-henry-suffers-serious-injuries-in-car-accident/

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 16, 2009 5:45 PM ET

Bengals receiver Chris Henry has suffered "very serious" injuries in a car accident, according to a release from the team.

Henry is currently on injured reserve with a dislocated forearm. He was in Charlotte, North Carolina at the time of the accident. His girlfriend's parents live in Charlotte.

UPDATE: Charlotte police has confirmed Henry is injured, but did not reveal anything more.

UPDATE II: Henry is in serious condition in a Charlotte-area hospital. Bengals team spokesman Jack Brennan said the team is "on standby" to offer help for Henry's family.

UPDATE III: 700 WLW in Cincinnati cryptically tweets that "sources now say it doesn't look good." KY Post writes that "Preliminary reports indicate Henry may have also suffered severe head injuries."

While we wait for the facts to come out, we'd like to send our thoughts and best wishes to Henry and his family.

Citing a police report, the Observer reported that:

• Henry was involved in a “domestic situation” with his fiancee.

• Henry’s fiancee got into a pickup truck and drove away from the home.

• Henry jumped into the bed of the truck as she was driving away. At some point, he came out of the back of the vehicle.

According to the Observer, Henry was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he is being treated, according to police. The paper described his injuries as “life-threatening.”

Young and healthy people can survive some of the craziest injuries as long as it doesn't involve the head or upper cervical spine. There is no room in the skull for the brain to swell -- and when it does it is uniformly catastrophic. I hope the rumors of "life threatening" and "head injury" are just that. If true, this is very bad.

Bengals.com is reporting "Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry suffered life-threatening injuries"...

LonghornBronco

quoted from deadspin.com for what it's worth.

Henry, who hasn't played since going on injured reserve early last month, was in Charlotte to discuss wedding plans with his fiancée, according to his agent.
At some point this afternoon, they got into a "domestic situation." Police say the fiancée drove away in the pickup truck, and Henry jumped in the back. They continued arguing. A half-mile from the home, he fell out the back of the truck.

Update: Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports (http://twitter.com/biodome10) the accident was fatal. So far, no one else is confirming this. And the account appears to be fake.

Update: Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Henry suffered head injuries, but as far as he knows is still alive.

Update: The Kentucky Post reports (http://www.kypost.com/news/local/story/Bengals-WR-Henry-Seriously-Injured-In-Accident/B-5QfTwSv0O5ZLJBsE2-pw.cspx) that homicide detectives are investigating. This doesn't necessarily mean it will be classified as a homicide.

Update: Alex Marvez of FOXSports reports (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/121609-Bengals-Henry) that Henry is on life support.

Just got this off their message board:

Here is the Latest guys

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer has confirmed with the Bengals and Charlotte police that wide receiver Chris Henry is still alive following a serious car accident Wednesday.

Still, the news surrounding Henry is not good.

Alex Marvez of Fox reports that Henry is on life support and the situation is being described as "dire."

A fake Twitter account led to multiple outlets from newspapers to major sports and news blogs to repeat information that Henry passed away.

The fake account purported to be by a NFL reporter, but it clearly is a fake.

We previously passed along reports that Henry's injuries were "life-threatening" and came after a "domestic situation."

As someone living in Cincinnati but not really a Bengal fan and someone who hated bringing Chris back the last time but a fan of people I pray the guy pulls through this.

I had hoped he realized as far as the NFL that he was most likely on his last shot in the NFL and getting that straight would trickle over to the rest of life and he would be ok , even if he ended up out of the sport . A lot of things are bigger than football and he has walked such a dangerous tight rope .

But at this point I just hope he gets one more chance...

In high school one of my classmates got in an accident sitting on the edge of the bed of the truck. He was sitting on the lowered tailgate while the truck was driving through the woods. The truck went over a tree stump and his legs caught it. It ripped him out and he smashed his head on the tree stump.

He was in critical condition and on life support. But like DocBronc said he was young and that was the best thing. He pulled through with only some loss to senses. I hope Henry has the same result.

Hopefully this isn't true, but a fairly typical scenario with traumatic brain injuries. True and while its not right to talk of him in the past yet I do hope his family honors his choice to donate (if that is the case) because here in Colorado even if you have organ donor listed on your license your family can decline.

Hopefully he pulls through if not hopefully someone will get a gift from him in his passing.

I've had this argument with my own family recently when my grandmother died. Even if the major organs can't be used, tissues such as skin, tendon, corneas, veins, bone.... they can really help in ways that people never take the time to think about. Needless to say I'm pro donation, but some people have a hard time coping without burying a corpse. There isn't much left after an organ and tissue harvest.

Homicide detective investigate Henry accident scene

Posted by Mike Florio on December 16, 2009 11:19 PM ET
An already dire situation involving Bengals receiver Chris Henry, who reportedly is on life support after falling out of a pickup truck on Wednesday, has an even more ominous feel, now that a report has emerged that homicide detectives have launched an investigation (http://www.wlwt.com/sports/21985946/detail.html) regarding the incident.

The term homicide implies that a loss of life was involved. In this case, it's easy to interpret the development as a belief by the authorities that Chris Henry isn't likely to make it.

Regardless of how the situation turns out, it's a tragedy that comes only nine days before Christmas, and it will dramatically impact the lives of his three small children. Taco Bill found this link (http://www.enquirer.com/editions/pdf/OH_CE_181009.pdf) to the hard copy of an October 2009 newspaper article regarding Henry, including a picture of Henry with his three-year old daughter, Seini, his two-year-old son, Chris Jr., and his 10-month-old DeMarcus.

We know that Henry made his share of mistakes, both with the Bengals and at West Virginia University. But he had matured before our eyes over the past year, and his progress should be an inspiration to anyone who hopes to break a cycle of bad choices in their own lives.

So please pray tonight for Chris -- and also pray his three children.

Bengals’ Henry badly injured in domestic dispute
By MIKE CRANSTON, AP Sports Writer
1 hour, 39 minutes ago

Buzz up! 615 PrintCHARLOTTE, North Carolina (AP)—Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry is “battling for his life” after falling out of the back of a pickup during what police described as a domestic dispute with his fiancee on Wednesday.

Henry was found in the road in south Charlotte “apparently suffering life-threatening injuries,” according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Police spokesman Robert Fey said officers were stationed near the 26-year-old Henry’s hospital room. He had no information on Henry’s condition, but said he was alive.

“We ask everyone to pray for Chris,” agent Andy Simms of PlayersRep Sports said in a statement. “We also ask that you respect the privacy of Chris’ family. Chris is indeed battling for his life tonight, and our thoughts and prayers (are) with him during this extremely difficult time.”

Police said a dispute began at a home just before noon and Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his fiancee—whom they did not identify by name — was driving away from the residence.

“The domestic situation continued between the operator and Mr. Henry,” the police said in a statement. “At some point while she was driving, Mr. Henry came out of the back of the vehicle.”

Henry was found on a residential street about half a mile (800 meters) from the home when police were called to the scene. Fey wouldn’t identify the woman and said no charges would be filed Wednesday.

Henry is engaged to Loleini Tonga, and the couple has been raising three children.

Henry was away from the team after breaking his left forearm during a win over Baltimore on Nov. 8. He had surgery and was placed on season-ending injured reserve following the game. Charlotte is home to his fiancee’s parents.

Team spokesman Jack Brennan said he had little information other than Henry was badly hurt.

“We are aware he was in an accident and that his injuries are very serious,” Brennan said. “We are staying in touch with the situation and are ready to offer whatever assistance we can.”

Henry is in the final year of his contract with the Bengals, who let him go after his fifth arrest following the 2007 season. Owner Mike Brown(notes) then brought him back a few months later, signing him to a two-year deal. Henry had stayed out of trouble with the police since his return.

In an interview with The Cincinnati Enquirer in October, Henry credited his fiancee for helping him straighten out his life, saying, “She’s been a big help. She’s been right here with me and going through things and helping out on my side. We have the kids, and she has my back with everything I’ve needed.”

From the start, his career has been sidetracked by off-the-field problems.

Henry repeatedly got in trouble at West Virginia, where former Mountaineers coach Rich Rodriguez told him that he was an embarrassment to himself and the program.

Most teams to shied away from Henry in the 2005 draft. Cincinnati was the only one that brought him in for a visit, and warned him that he had to stay out of trouble if he was going to make it in the NFL. Then, the Bengals drafted him in the third round.

His ability to run past defenders made him an integral part of the Bengals’ run to the playoffs in 2005. He caught Carson Palmer’s(notes) only pass in a playoff loss to Pittsburgh.

His rookie season also marked the beginning of his problems in the NFL. He was arrested for marijuana possession in December 2005, and again on a weapons charge a month later in Florida. He was arrested four times in all, drawing repeated suspensions—two games in 2006, the first half of the 2007 season— for violating the league’s conduct policy.

Before the start of the season, he got a tattoo that said “Blessed” below his left ear, a reminder of how many chances he’s had.

“I don’t live the way I did in the past,” Henry said, in an interview with The Associated Press during training camp. “I kind of plan my days out and take it one day at a time and stay away from the wrong people. I’m not partying anymore. I’m just focused on football right now and my family. I don’t associate with the same people. I’ve completely changed everything.”

Ok nervous about what? You are the one sounding like a douche especially with what you went through. More and more it looks like you are reverting back to the old sorry sack Mock that once trolled this board. Thought at least you would understand what kind of situation this guy is in and yet you show how classless you can be once again.

But like someone said in a rep at least you didn't bring up Meth Alley! I mean those menthol cigs are BAD!

Wow. Don't you have anything better to do than insusult a cripple?

Police said a dispute began at a home just before noon and Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his fiancee - whom they did not identify - was driving away.

"The domestic situation continued between the operator and Mr. Henry," the police said in a statement. "At some point while she was driving, Mr. Henry came out of the back of the vehicle."

Wow, the cops are saying a lot... quickly. Again, just seems unusual for them to speak this quickly on something like this. I wonder how they got that information? Not that I doubt it, it's just a very rapid statement to be putting out there.

Sounds like it was ugly, and like this story will be dragging on for quite some time.

Einstein:

would also like to know the complete answer.

There seems to be people that are quite sure of themselves giving both answers. I have seen a few images of him with a chalk in his right hand.

As a left hander though I also write on the board with my right hand as many left handers do (you have to for cursive or the chalk bounces). I think it would be fair to assume he may have been right handed (at least at writing), even if he wasn't originally he would have most probably been forced to use his right hand in school anyway.

Hence you can't really be certain based on his writing hand alone so I had a look for him doing something very natural that he couldn't have been forced to switch hands with (in this case holding his pipe) and interestingly (to my surprise also), in all the images he seems to be using his left hand. Perhaps he was left handed but because he wrote with his right hand we get a lot of controversy.

I think whatever the case Einstein was a notoriously visual thinker, which is attributed to the right side of the brain (that left handers use and which is undoubtedly linked to the much higher percentage of left handed artists). I remember they found he had a much higher neuron density connecting the 2 halves (I'm a bit rusty though so if someone could confirm that...).

I guess really, he probably got his genius from using both halves of his brain, and not specifically being left or right
-----------------------------

I find this specically interesting bacause mt Grandmother was forced to write with her right hand.
