Was listening to the 106.7 The Fan today and they said someone from Charlie Weis "inner circle" said two nfl teams have showed interest in bringing him on. Those teams were the Redskins and Broncos. Aaaannnnddd Go.

Broncos make sense. He taught McD everything he knew and its Weis base offense that McD built on. Weis probably won't get a HC job so I am not surprised that Denver has come up.

I'm not sure it makes a ton of sense... I definitely believe the offer is on the table, but this is a situation here where I doubt McDaniels would relinquish play calling... unless he's feeling a little overwhelmed this season, which doesn't SEEM to be the case.

That MIGHT be an over exaggeration. They were only on the offensive staff together for 1 year (2004). All prior seasons McD was a defensive assistant. He's a quick study, no doubt, but it was only 1 season together.

Smart move IMO. McDaniels doesn't seem to have a massive ego preventing him from bringing in talent he knows could help out.

Agree. Charlie is known to have a big ego and I can't see McD relinquishing any of his play calling role.

I could see it if Shanahan gets a HC gig and wants Dennison with him as his OC. Not that I want that to happen, but I could see it. I'm sure McD could give him some random title as a coach...Do we have an assistant HC?

When I heard this I can 100% believe it, but I don't see how it would work. Team already has an OC and McDaniels calls all the plays so the only thing I could come up with is if he is going to give Weis some of his duties so can ease his work load. He could also be bring him in as an assistant Head Coach.

106.7 The Fan in the DC area. I'm pretty sure it's a different "The Fan" because it's local to the DC area, hence the Redskins being apart of the discussion.

Well another angle to look at is maybe McD is seeing what it takes to truly be a head coach and director of all things football at Dove Valley. He also has a lot to say in the Defensive side of the ball as his strengths are dissecting a team and coming up with something that negates them. Having Nolen sure as heck helps but I guarantee he has a lot of say in the D game plan.

So if he could bring in Coach Weis who taught him everything he knows to HELP him run the offense it may free him up for other things.

Just a thought I have had but if you are going to bring someone in as OC Weis is logical as he isn't a threat to unseat you after what happened at Notre Dame and he is looking to re-establish his image and influence in the NFL.

What did Tony Dungy do without Peyton Manning?

Sean Peyton without Drew Brees?

Mike Shanahan without John Elway?

I could go on. Great QBs and great coaches have this crazy trend where they coincide on great teams.

I could see it. Weis would probably be an assistant HC/quality control type of guy. McDaniels would still call the plays but Weis would help with the weekly gameplan, specifically with QBs, and on Sundays would be in the booth giving detailed breakdowns to McDaniels on what is and isn't working, so McDaniels would have more time to focus on the overall game while still making the actual play calls as he sees fit.

plug the guy in at guard. he's a road-grader.

seriously, i think mcd may see this as a opportunity to plug someone in as a playcaller that he trusts, other than himself. we know that head coaches--see bellichick--have to oversee and be part of ALL phases of the gameplan, not just offense. I think having Weis to cover the O gives him the opportunity to freewheel a bit more, which is what a head coach ought to do.

if mcd trusts weis, i trust weis.

Interesting. People around here are speculating that the Chiefs want him, since Haley might want the offensive playcalling handled by someone else next year...

Sounds like a smart move to me. If McDaniels wants to be a true head coach, and not just a coordinator with head coaching duties, then it is a smart move. A head coach is really a manager. But some head coaches take on coordinator's duties, which sometimes isn't wise. That was why Kubiak was great for Shanahan.

It all depends on how much control McD wants. If he's willing to give up some control over the offense so he can manage the team more than it sounds like a good idea.

AFC Championship game and one of the best winning %s since Elway retired. But as far as the rest are concerned, proceed.
