If this is true, it goes down in history as the most singular act of buffoonery of all time. Of course, what would you expect from George Bush? And yet, it is also a horrific tragedy because of the loss of life caused by this act of monumental stupidity.
It sounds like a bad joke but it may be a true story: one of the most sensational claims made by the British government in the run-up to the Iraq War about Saddam Hussein’s supposed weapons of mass destruction may have come from an Iraqi taxi driver based on a conversation he overheard from passengers in his backseat two years earlier.

A cab driver?
Hey - that isn't too far removed from, say, a landscaper. ;)

Poll: 49% of Americans think U.S. should mind its own business internationally
<!-- Print the time the article was posted --> Excerpt:
<!-- The article content --> According to a poll released on Dec. 3 by The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, almost half of Americans believe that the U.S. should “mind its own business internationally” and step out of other countries’ affairs.
In 1964, the institute found that only 18 percent of Americans supported such an isolationist approach. For the first time in more than 40 years of polling, a plurality (49%) says the United States should let other countries get along the best they can on their own and not interfere in their affairs. In December 2002, just 30% agreed with this statement.
If President Obama is looking for something that transcends the left/right, conservative/liberal divisions over health care reform and Afghanistan policy, he might try isolationism. This finding marks the first time in four decades that such a large number of Americans oppose US foreign policies.
Back in 1935, a Marine who won the Congressional Medal of Honor twice, Gen. Smedley Butler said, “We must take the profit out of war. We must permit the youth of the land who would bear arms to decide whether or not there should be war. We must limit our military to home defense purposes.”
Perhaps spending billions on rebuilding the American economy instead of bombing, occupying and rebuilding countries on the other side of the globe would generate higher approval ratings for Obama, save lives, help restore our image among the international community, and help Americans.

Probably so.
Still, 49% is pretty remarkable compared to 18% in 1964.

What a bizarre concept.
BTW, I think the press deliberately mislabels this idea by using the word "isolationism" as if it is some kind of medical quarantine. Nobody wants to isolate themselves from the world. We just want to stop being their one-stop solve-all-your-problems depot.

We have bailed the world's ass out time and again the past 400 years, and IMO the only people we technically owe are the French.

There may still be occasions when it's clearly in our interests to step in, but not nearly as often as we've been doing since the end of WWII, IMO.

It's all good. Obama said he will start the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq as soon as he takes office. I'm sure he'll end the war in Afghanistan as well. Right?

Quotes
"Bush was asked if he listened to his father Herbert Herbert Bush and he responded, "No I listen to my father in heaven." Then he (W) went on to invade a country using what he knew to be bogus intelligence. The result being 5000 US servicemen killed, 30,000 wounded, over 125,000 Iraqis killed while 2 million Iraqis had to flee Iraq because of ethnic cleansing. If a butcher like Bush follows Jesus....give me an atheist."
