AP) - Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus was romantically involved with his current girlfriend when he recommended her for U.S. attorney, a spokesman said.

The Montana Democrat and his former state office director Melodee Hanes began their relationship in the summer of 2008, after Baucus separated from his wife, Ty Matsdorf told The Associated Press late Friday.

Baucus nominated Hanes for the U.S. attorney post in Montana in March. But she later withdrew, saying she had been presented with other opportunities she couldn't pass up.

See, this is the thing. Its not really an Obama Admin thing - although his admin is left holding the bag on this one. Its politicians outta control. Its the voters not holding these people to higher standards. Its symbolic of our leaders feeling comfortable with doing whatever they want whenever they want.

This event is like walking thru the woods and coming across a standing dead tree. This nomination is like seeing a bit of decay on the outside of the bark and knowing that internally the tree is rotten to the core, filled with all kinds of insects, and held together only by the facade of bark shell. That's all Washington is these days.

When Bush was in DC, the Reps did this kind of thing constantly. Know that if McCain had somehow got elected, they would be the ones nominating their sex toys. The naive notion that rampant corruption is only on the other side of the aisle (opposite of whichever side you stand on) combined with blind adherence to voting for the major parties will continue to feed this crap and it will only get worse until one day we are standing around realizing that we gave it all away to partisan politics and our arrogant all powerful leaders run and control everything.

I agree. But there is a ton of money and a ton of power in DC. It would be the rare man (or woman) that wouldnt be corrupted by that kind of power. And our forefathers knew that. And this is why the set up a constitutional republic with limited power concentrated in the Federal govt.

Glad this "climate of change" is really taking effect with our politicians. But hey it's a democrat, so won't make big news with most of the media.

BTW, I remember a REPUBLICAN out of Kentucky a few years back nominating his wife for the dept. of labor, how arrogant was that....arrogant enough to go through with the nomination.

Baucus committed adultery with this prostitute and she expects favors in return.

What a sick situation. These people think they can just continue to slip this trash by everyone. Its time for people to wake up.

Max can do what he wants -- there is very little chance he will be elected in a few years, folks here are pissed, they feel betrayed -- now, if we can just get someone half decent to run against him.
