I was watching his presser on Sunday and wondering if he could feel the noose tightening. And the hatch door opened today....about damn time. I don't understand these teams that hire guys that didn't do anything with their previous team(s).....see Wade Phillips, Norv Turner, Jauron....

Why he never was a ST coach and while he was a punt returner in his playing days, he is more a defensive coordinator.

The NFL broke into their programming for this breaking news update. The funny part? They were showing the Bills missed FG against the Giants when they broke in. Poor Buffalo

Isn't Wade Phillips like 25-13 as a head coach. He's sort of the Kyle Orton of HC.

I think if one were going to make a case for not hiring rethreads, one would use examples such as Rich Kotite, Bruce Coslet and Lindy Infante.

Norv Turner (three playoff wins in the last two years) and Wade Phillips (took three different organizations to the playoffs) don't necessarily make it a slam dunk case for not hiring them.

Belichick and Shanahan after they got fired and got to learn some more under a few under some good coaches. Its not like Jauron or Norv Turner ever had that going for them.

Bill Belichick went back to his old pal Bill Parcells as an assistant in New England and with the Jets. The same guy he was associated with before he became the Browns head coach.

Turner did serve as offensive coordinator under Marty Schottenheimer when he joined the Chargers in 2001.

Wait so you are now agreeing with Gunns assertion after critiquing her original post :kiddingme

Norv and Wade have essentially regressed every successive year for every team they have been HC. In 7 years with WAS Norv only made the playoffs once and has taken over a 14-2 SD team and turned them into an 8-8 team. Wade has never won a playoff game. I think the examples are apt.

Yes, he just runs the plays that are called.

I don't see this guy getting another HC gig.

I am sure he is a nice guy and is kind to puppies and stuff but he is not going to be better than a .500 HC.

You can tell the cheap franchises when they hire a guy who knows football and stuff but ends up SOL all the time.

I cannot name a Juron coached team that had a true starting QB.

No, I think rethreads should be evaluated on a case-to-case basis. There are worthy coaches that should be given another chance and there are guys who should be flushed down the toilet.

From 2001-2007, every Super Bowl winning coach except one was a rethread.

As we speak, both Turner's and Phillips' teams have a share of first place. They are still writing the chapters of their career.

BTW, the Phillips never won a playoff game knock is so over blown. He did choke in 2007 with the home game against the Giants, but the three playoff teams he had in Denver (1993) and Buffalo (1998-99) were marginal wild card teams that weren't expected to go far in the first place. They all lost in road affairs.

Phillips by no means is a great coach/top 10 coach, but he does hold a 76-52 career record and about a 1/3 of the teams in the NFL wish they had that right now.

No, those are the exceptions to the rule. And really, how long was Shanahan a head coach for the Raiders, plus the fact he was a perfect fit for the Broncos and Bowlen knew it.

So overblown? Those were his teams and hell yes they were overblown. So what if they were on the road. 3 teams for Phillips and not a playoff win, but a winning record. Whooohooo! I think you know what I was talking about, at least I hope you do.

How long have you been around? He was in Denver for at least 2 years (33 games) and Buffalo for 3 years (29-21). You realize that adds up to 83 games. He is a Cowboys coach currently. Total winning percentage of all regular and intern coaching is .596. Not too bad.

Things started out badly when he fired the OC right before the season started. Don't know how their offense would be doing, but obviously that move didn't help much either. And considering Tampa and the Chiefs did the same things and have been offensively weak most of the season, that didn't help them much either.
