Dwayne Bowe suspended for violating steroids policy

Posted by Mike Florio on November 17, 2009 1:50 PM ET

And just as the Chiefs finally have seen a problem player land with a new team, another promising young player has become a major problem.

Receiver Dwayne Bowe has been suspended four games for violating the league's policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances.

The team announced the move earlier in the hour. The suspension begins immediately.

The development means that Bowe has exhausted all internal appeals, or opted not to pursue them.

The specific substance for which he tested positive isn't known, and it's possible that the violation occurred in 2008 or earlier. It's also possible that Bowe didn't test positive; some players have been suspended based on evidence of possession of banned substances.

He'll miss games against the Steelers, Chargers, Broncos, and Bills. He'll then return for the final three games of the year, against the Browns, Bengals, and Broncos.

It sucks to be a Chiefs fan these days, and it's only getting worse. Poor Lamar Hunt's ghost.

If you are implying that he's a bad player, stop being such a homer. He's legit.

They do play the Browns so i would give at least one game. If Simms is still QB and plays down to his Redskins game, it could be plus one.

Bowe's agent, Todd France, said his client was guilty only of taking a weight loss supplement.

"Dwayne did not take a steroid or any other peformance-enhancing drug," France said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "However he took a diuretic for weight loss, which unfortunately has a negative affect under the league's policy. Dwayne is sincerely disappointed and apologetic that he let down the Chiefs organization, his teammates and the fans. He looks forward to returning and putting this situation behind him."

It sure has been an awful season for the Chiefs. So many things have gone wrong for them this season. And people fret over McDaniels? Look at how the Chiefs, Browns, Tampa, Rams, Lions, and even Jets are doing with new coaches. A combined 10 wins I believe for those teams.

watch much football outside of broncos??? he drops balls left and right, and if you remember, his "hands" didnt catch the onsides kicked which helped lead to chargers winning division last year.

he's a big body who occasionaly catches some passes, he his nothing more then mediocre who with the hype surrounding him hasnt lived up to it.

He wasnt taking it to lose weight from eating too much chicken. It hides the steroids usage and that is why the supplements are banned. You dont take them because it is a mask to cover up the roids use. Losing weight or taking roids, you decide.

Well...for some its a fair compensation for shrinking junk, massive mood swings and chronic hairloss.

The league is going after Larry Fitzgerald now. Bowe said on a radio show that he hasn't been taking the substance long. He worked out with Fitzgerald in the offseason and tried to lose weight and gain speed like Haley wanted.
I wouldn't be surprised if Fitzgerald was taking this too.

Dammit. I have all those symptoms already. May as well start taking steroids so I at least get SOME benefit.
