QUICKLY:

* The Broncos held a 10-7 lead in the third quarter against Pittsburgh last week on Monday Night Football before the Steelers pulled away for a 28-10 victory.
* Denver’s current roster features 32 players in their first season with the club (58.2 percent of its roster including reserve lists). The Broncos’ 28 new players on its opening game 53-man roster tied for the sixth most in the league since 1994.
* Head Coach Josh McDaniels was named the head coach on Pro Football Weekly’s and Peter King’s (Sports Illustrated) midseason All-Pro teams.

OFFENSE:

* WR Brandon Marshall set a Broncos Monday Night Football record with a season-best 11 receptions (112 yds.) against Pittsburgh. His effort against the Steelers marked his seventh 10-catch game and eighth 100-yard receiving performance in the last three years.
* C Casey Wiegmann has played every possible offensive snap (8,546) dating back to 2001 for the longest such streak in the NFL.
* On pace to set or tie personal bests for a season in every major passing category, QB Kyle Orton owns the sixth-best career winning percentage (.659 / 27-14) by an active passer in the NFL.

DEFENSE:

* Coached by long-time NFL defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, the Broncos rank third in the NFL in yards per play allowed (4.7), yards per game allowed (280.3) and points per game allowed (15.5).
* OLB/DE Elvis Dumervil is tied for the NFL lead with an AFC-best 10.5 sacks. Since he entered the NFL in 2006, his 36.5 sacks lead his conference.
* With the signing of five-time Pro Bowl CB Ty Law on Nov. 7, the Broncos’ secondary features three players with a combined 20 Pro Bowl selections (CB Champ Bailey-8, S Brian Dawkins-7).

SPECIAL TEAMS:

* LS Lonie Paxton enters Sunday’s game having appeared in 99 consecutive games (regular season and playoffs). He joined the Broncos in the offseason after spending the previous nine years with New England.
* ILB/FB Spencer Larsen has registered two special-teams tackles in each of Denver’s previous two games after missing the club’s first six contests due to an injury.

“All Ready”- Darrent Williams

"You play for so long, they're all hostile environments. There are a couple of fans that I recognize from behind our bench that have been pretty fun over the years to listen to as they try to get after you. He's pretty good at it, too. I don't know his name, but he's pretty good sitting behind the bench. It can be a very intimidating place if you allow it to (be), just like every opposing team that has passionate fans. This is no different." – Brian Dawkins

"We have just got to do a better job of executing over the course of 60 minutes against teams like Baltimore and Pittsburgh, and if we do, then the games will be competitive just like the first half of the season has been. That's the kind of game that we are going to play in. That's the kind of team we are."–Josh McDaniels

"Really, from week to week, all you can do is focus on that week. On a short week like this, we have got so much to do in three days to move on to Washington. Really, all of our thoughts are behind us for Pittsburgh and Baltimore and all those games. We have got enough to worry about with Washington to come out and play a good game." –Kyle Orton

"Initially I was a little upset about it, but I moved on pretty quick, I mean, if they didn't want me, then I don't want to be there. It worked out fine for me." -Champ Bailey

"this is great situation. Here I can work my way in. There are established guys, guys like Champ and Andre Goodman. And all the guys back there, they communicate, they know how to play. These are players who know how to conduct themselves. I don't have to be somebody's daddy off the field and I just told them just hang in there with me, give me a little time and I can help. I believe that." -Ty Law

Skins actually have a good defense.

I expect a very conservative approach from us today, play the field position game and try and grind it out.

15-10 to Denver is my guess.

31-13 Broncos

I have a feeling that coach feels we need a dominating performance today to show the league that we are still a good team and we only lost to 2 of the best D's in the league.

Look for us to run outside and take some shots this game!

I had been thinking about betting big on the Broncos to win all week long... then it hit me.

December 13th, 2007. We walked into Houston for a Thursday game against the Texans. With Rosenfells starting, and guys like Darius Walker and Ron Dayne in Houston's backfield, it looked like it should have been an easy win.

But it wasn't. Was it?

Houston established the run game and Rosenfells was able to make key conversions. Their defense jumped down our throat and pushed us around the entire game.

Washington has the ability to do it to us again. They have a rosenfells-like QB, average at best running backs, and a solid defense (top 5 in the league, surprisingly)

We have shown that, while we are a different team than years past, we still have problems stopping the run. Perhaps we will stack the box and make Campbell beat us. This is what I'm afraid of, he can definitely do this if he's on his game. That's where the 3-4 comes in.

Nolan, pay attention. One of the major benefits of the 3-4 SHOULD be that we are able to get pressure with less blitzers. The whole idea of the 3-4 is to confuse the pass blockers and get the pressure of 8 men with only 6, so to speak. If you are going to blitz 8 men, why even try to disguise it? You are just sending a wall of players and leaving large chunks of the field wide open. It's one of the reasons that the second half against Pittsburgh reminded many of the AFC Championship game. Different scheme, same blitz technique, same results.

Let's get back to the trickery, let's get back to Dawkins hitting the QB, and let's stop running backs who have no business starting football games. Can we win this game? Yes. Should we win this game? Definitely. Will we? I think so, but I'm still not ready to bet the house.

The skins have a decent defense. As it was mentioned before, the Ravens and the Steelers may have provided the blue print to stop our offense and this could actually be a defensive struggle match. With that said, we should win this game by the strength of just being the better team. The skins have always played us tough.

The question you need to ask is when Hillis got back to Denver after the funeral. If he didn't back til Wednesday or Thursday, then most likely he wasn't ready for this week game.

Hillis inactive again
By Lindsay Jones

Running back/fullback Peyton Hillis is inactive for his second straight game and will not play today against the Redskins.

Hillis was also inactive Monday against the Steelers, though he was excused from that game to be with his family for his grandmother’s funeral at that time. He returned to Denver and practiced all week with the team.

Wednesday, according to the Post. If that's the case, then he didn't miss any meaningful practice time, given that they probably had Tuesday off.

this is a messed up stat, on espn right now:

pass attempts over last 2 games:
10 yards or less - 53
11-20 yards - 21
20+ yards - 1

theres no excuse for that, looking for the right matches or not, thats ridiculous and a surefire way to score 10 points in 2 games/

not necessarily, ditka said its on the coach for not allowing orton go deep. and, like most arguments, the truth is in the middle. im sure mcdaniels is giving orton chances at going deep, though not many, and orton isnt making use of them. blame them both, but they need to realize the offense isnt working, and doing the same stuff that isnt working is dumb. any defense in the NFL can cover the first 10 yards of the field prety easily.

You just stated the only reason people want to see Hillis get a shot (the Broncos leading rusher last year, and rare RB to have a 100 yard rushing and 100 yard receiving game in same season) is because he is white. You my friend are both an idiot and racist.

Your one non-racist, non-idiotic post about trusting the coaches is reasonable and unlike you, they don't see the players as black or white, just look at who will give the team the best chance to win.

If hillis never gets a shot at running the ball how is he suppose to prove himself? bad pratices is hardly an indicator of ones play ( in a game) i just think MCD is making a mistake but hey running mereno and bucky for nothing is working much better there is really nothing to lose here and everthing to gain don't you think?

Regardless of his color, I havn't seen hillis show any flashes of being a back that should get more than 3-4 carries a game. People saying use him in short yardage may be onto something. I say we draft Toby Gerhardt next season and solve all our power running needs (looking for any excuse to pimp my Cardinal today...;) )

By this line of reasoning, every single player on the roster should get to play in real games, because we don't really know what any of them are capable of. Is that really what you believe? That even 4th and 5th line scrubs should be getting significant playing time because we don't really know what they can do just based on practice?

Since Denver is running a majority of 3 or 4 receiver looks, that all the options are staying within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage? Looking at the route combo on TV you can see that using at least one WR or TE trying pull coverage deep. Orton has tendency to take the check down if the first option isn't there.

he showed all last season he is a great power runner, he just istn getting the opportunities this year to prove it.

But a power runner being a feature back? No, I think you put him in there to tire the defense out on short yardage or late in the game. I don't see him being able to get you a home run when you need it. I'm telling you, you want a guy that can carry the ball 40 plus times with power, speed, and never gets tired. Watch the cal stanford game this saturday my friend...he wears #7;)

they are using guys as decoys to draw coverage deep, but is there really any defenders in the league who have an advantage over marshall with a jump ball? sure drawing them deep in theory helps, but when theres no threat of actually throwing it deep, you can stick single coverage on the long WR all day regardless of who it is, which is what we are seeing. and based on results, it clearly is not working, they need to change it up if anything good is gonna come from it, 10 offensive points in the last 2 games combined....

By this line of reasoning, every single player on the roster should get to play in real games, because we don't really know what any of them are capable of. Is that really what you believe? That even 4th and 5th line scrubs should be getting significant playing time because we don't really know what they can do just based on practice?

Exactly the opposite, our short yardage game stinks and we have a short yardage RB sitting on the bench ( just seems like a no brainer) iam looking at the running game and nothing else.

Nice response by the D. Three and out after the fumble. The sky may not be falling, Chicken Littles.

We get an easy score it would have been nice for a 3 and out instead of a 12 play drive for a TD. Changed the whole tone of the game. After this TD they need to set the tone and get the ball back. That's all.

Took 8 games, but the deep ball is back in Denver.

Amazing how that can turn our offense around, huh?!
That will also allow us to run the ball.
Hey, even if it's the skins, still is nice to see we've made some changes in philosophy on our offense!
