These guys have a point. It does seem that every time Cutler gets under the lights in a big game he folds up like a Walmart tent.

i've liked the Marmalard name for Rivers since i first saw it last year. not sure how many average fans understand the reference, but i think it's a good one. if the same guy came up with Frown Cannon for Cutler, then he's 2 for 2. which is more good nicknames than that asshat Chris Berman has come up with on ESPN in the last 20 years.

The funny thing is I don't think he has a stronger arm than Elway. Last year he said he had a better arm than Farve, a few hours before Farve lofted a gorgeous bomb over Dre Bly in overtime. He has a good arm for those intermediate routes (if he is not throwing picks), but his deep ball is lacking.

I like "Franchise" too. Ha!

I'm thinking a variation on this theme:

Franny

It encompasses the 'franchise' point, but also could allude to Fran Tarkenton, who:

Never won a Super Bowl Ring
Has ripped Cutler every which way but loose

"I really question whether he can play," Tarkenton, the Hall of Fame quarterback and former Minnesota Viking, told Waddle & Silvy Friday. "Quarterbacks need to make their team better. If it's a bad team they can even make a bad team better. Somebody may say well, even Peyton Manning couldn't help the Bears. Yes, he could. Tom Brady could, too. They might not win the championship or get to the playoffs but they would make that team better. Those wide receivers who are struggling would be better because they would make them better."

#5 all time in career INT's
Averaged 16 fumbles per season in a 14 game season
Averaged 16 sacks per season with a single season high of 36, which he accomplished twice.
Career Record of 124-109-6 for 52% win pct.

Come to think of it, Cutler will NEVER get to 52%...Not a good fit, i suppose.

are you really comparing Cutler to Tarkenton? Tarkenton is in both the NFL and college football HOFs. he also led his Vikings team to 3 superbowls. he didn't care if he threw a pick because the Purple People Eaters were such a dominant defense. Cutler is no even in the same discussion with Tarkenton.

Just the bad aspects of his career, of course. Your post seems to showcase a stunning similarity between the two--he didn't/doesn't care if he throws a pick. They also seem to have the same disposition--that of a red arse. Fran is just never happy these days and, well, neither is Jay. While sweet baby Jay may never reach the heights of Fran's career, he just might match the lows.

the NFL of 2009 is a different game than it was in 1970. Tarkenton played in an era where defenders got away with alot more and INT as a stat wasn't that important. he scrambled. he improvised. he threw his share of picks. but it didn't cost his team wins. i'd say Tarkenton is more like Favre in that respect, than Cutler. Cutler is throwing picks because he's infatuated with his arm. he's costing his team wins. he's like Jeff George.

you've illustrated an important point though... comparing player stats from different eras can lead to faulty conclusions. :)

Yeah but the Alphonso Smith pick isnt looking so sexy yet. He looks decent though. Hopefully Ayers comes on, and then Bears pick this yr gets into the 12-14 range. That's not a bad spot to be in. Move up only if you really want someone, high enough though other teams might want the pick, but not so high that if you just sit and pick a guy he holds out for big money.

With all the restrictions on FA next yr look for an interesting yr where you could see top teams have to dangle players for extra picks, or let big time FA walk so they can then enter FA market.

sweet pasty thickness...two things spring to mind, and both are not rated G.

Honestly when I see Jay Cutler I get the random thought through my head that he would be the bottom in a 30 odd man gangbang with dudes recently released from San Quinton, and he'd probably enjoy it.

So for me personally, my nickname for him is Jay "Powerbottom" Cutler. Simply because of the bitch vibe he throws off.
