View Full Version : The I-formation and Moreno

Anybody here think our running attack and Moreno would be much more effective if Moreno was allowed to run out of the I-formation, with a lead FB blocking for him occassionally? I think Orton throwing out of the I-formation would also give him two RB's to block thus adding max protection against the Steelers pass rush and blitz's.

worth a shot. i'd like to see some more wild horses this week as well. steelers are a smart bunch, any little change from game films will help

Maybe this week...we switch to South Paw.

Apparently not, since we spent a second on Quinn.

Except that McDaniel's offense doesn't use the I-formation much.

Who would we get as FB? Not Hillis, he'd probably find a way to fumble it without even carrying the ball.

We don't do PA passes at all really and that annoys me. It's like we either line up under center and run or throw out of the shotgun.

Orton isn't a great drop-back passer. He's much more effective out of the gun. I agree, the play-action would help out... but I'm going to guess that Kyle's rating as a drop-back passer is probably 30 points worse than out of the gun. (Just a guess.)

I do think we'll see a bit more formation variety in the near future, but the shotgun will be the bread and butter.

Good lord, man... what does that even mean?

What a sad existence.

Why do you bother pretending to be a fan, Mock. You're 100% troll, dude. Just useless.

Jesus.

Actually you're they troll.

If McD cared about getting a fulback to run the I,, and didn't like Hillis, he could of gotten one=, rather than a 3rd TE with questionable skills in the 2nd round.

Or he could just put in Larsen instead.

i miss the play action plays. i know Orton isn't a great mobile QB, but he has at least the ability to roll out on a play action pass.

also, another way i feel Moreno would be used well is with pitch plays that allow him to get outside the Tackles instead of him going straight ahead right up the gut.

You're a complete idiot if you think any team wastes second or even third round picks on a fullback. You've ripped on everything McDaniels has done and we're 6-1. Why don't you quit acting like a bitter moron and wake up to the fact that he's a good coach who built a good team.

Cutler's gone and he's playing .500 ball just like he did here, probably because the team doesn't want to play for him because he's a douche that estranges teammates from him and sours the locker room. Go root for their fail team.

I never said that. And this has NOTHING to do with Cutler.

IF, he wanted to run the I he would of brought in someone he liked., and Quinn, Larsen or Hillis aren't true Fullbacks.

You'll have to ask McD why Hillis never sees the field. Ask your buddy Popps, he had his nose up his ass all offseason.

Problem your assumption with Hillis is that he only has 1 fumble this year (on a kickoff return) and Moreno has 3. Lets be fair here.

In fact that's the only fumble in Hillis's career... he was perfect last year with ball control.

Moreno has fumbled more than Hillis has!

Youd think the PA would help with opening up passing windows for Orton and even help getting bigger chunks of yards. It helps if youre able to run though. With the lack of time Orton had against the Ravens, PA could have backfired in a lot of instances.

I don't think Moreno's issues are "formational."

I think he is a rookie, and he is getting used to how to attack NFL caliber LB's. I would actually like to see Moreno get more check down passes in the middle of the field. I like his chances when he starts with a little open space (ala Forte from last year).

The best thing for Moreno would be us completing a couple deep passes early in the game.

Yes.
We should also run the option out of a inverted wishbone.

Hillis is fumbling once every 7 touches this season.
Moreno is fumbling once every 40 touches this season.

You should probably count "career" touches seeing as how Hillis didn't fumble once last year. Also his fumble this year was a kick return.

McD needs to try some I-formation blocking for the running game and to max protect Orton against teams that blitz. The announcers just mentioned that the Defense got worn down tonight and the runnning game didn't even get one first down tonight.

Denver's O line can't open holes with just their front five.....and zone blocking is all but abandoned.

Denver's running attack needs to switch to the I formation or its going to get ugly.
