I guess painting your face white and then making a movie about it calling it white girls is socially acceptable. But dressing up for Halloween when the shoe is on the other foot...thats not funny

IT IS HALLOWEEN! You dress up as someone or something you want to be. She wanted to be Lil Wayne. Guess what? He is black and a male so she had look like him and if that means coloring your white skin to be black, so be it. I think media is behind hyping it up, not the fans. Halloween is fun and can be racy, funny, scary and sexy. I wouldnt want it any other way.

Most of the specific "Black Face" resentment goes back to the days when White actors were cast to play black people in movies and plays instead of hiring black actors. It was and was seen as discrimination. 100 years before that, Men still played women rather than allow women to be actors.

Example Shakepeare plays wre all men every time they were done till the later 1900's, and White guys played Othello till the 30's.

This. Of course her intentions were hardly to offend, and there is a decided difference between darkening your skin for a costume like that and actually put on the stereotypical blackface look.

It's just part of being an educated, socially aware person, though, to know that a lot of people will take offense to it if you do do that kind of thing. Lots of painful history justifies the need for at least some restraint, IMO.

Of course, that only makes it more bewildering how we still have Chief Wahoo on the caps of the Indians players or that there is an NFL team called the Redskins, both fairly offensive even if you aren't uber-PC.

You make a valid point…… being ‘Native American”, I don’t find the name Chiefs or Braves offensive but the name “Redskins” is a derogatory name. You certainly couldn’t have a team called the Blackskins or Whiteskins…

Exactly. People even attacked Whoopi wondering how she could be ok with something like this.

Everyone just needs to get over it though. You can easily tell she wasn't trying to be racist. Why get mad about it? Because you can twist it into being racist? Good for you. Maybe you are the racist. If you think it is ok for another race to dress as a white person and you don't think this is ok, you are a racist. If you don't think it is ok for any of this to happen, you are probably a racist that thinks they can hide it.

Dansesn did the black face in 1993........... I think he's had a pretty good career from that point.......

Later career (After the Black Face)
Although he was best known for his work in comedy, he also appeared in an acclaimed drama, Something About Amelia, about a family devastated by the repercussions of incest, which co-starred his current co-star on Damages, Glenn Close. He won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie and was nominated for an Emmy Award In 1996, three years after Cheers concluded, Danson starred in the short-lived CBS sitcom Ink with his real-life wife Mary Steenburgen. In the same year, they starred as Lemuel Gulliver and his wife in an acclaimed television miniseries of Gulliver's Travels.

Danson went on to star in the successful CBS sitcom Becker, which ran from 1998–2004. Danson also plays himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm. He reprised his role of "Sam Malone" in a second season episode of Frasier and voiced him in The Simpsons episode "Fear of Flying".

Danson returned to series television in the fall of 2006, playing a psychiatrist in the ABC sitcom Help Me Help You, which was canceled at midseason due to low ratings.

In 2007, Danson began the FX Network drama Damages as a corrupt billionaire, Arthur Frobisher. The role earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, but lost to co-star Željko Ivanek. In the second season, Danson became a regular character instead as one of the principal cast. Nevertheless, Danson received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, but lost to Michael J. Fox for his guest appearance in Rescue Me.

In 1999, Danson was presented a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Danson is currently starring in the new HBO comedy series, Bored to Death, playing George.

Film Career (after the black face)
Danson has also been featured in numerous films. His most notable film appearances were in Three Men and a Baby with Tom Selleck and Steve Guttenberg, its sequel Three Men and a Little Lady, and Cousins with Isabella Rossellini. He also appeared in The Onion Field (his first film, as the bagpiper), Body Heat, Just Between Friends, A Fine Mess, Made in America, Getting Even with Dad, and Saving Private Ryan.

While the Black bands sweatin'
And the rhythm rhymes rollin'
Got to give us what we want
Gotta give us what we need
Our freedom of speech is freedom or death
We got to fight the powers that be
Lemme hear you say
Fight the power

I wonder what multiracial people do in times like this? Sit quietly with hands in lap, neither angry nor indifferent? ;D

Anyone ever see the movie Watermelon Man? It was wild. Godfrey Cambridge starred in it as a white man! I didn't even see it until the late 80s and thought that's one weird lookin' white dude!

Turns out he was in full body makeup. Anyway, it was social commentary about prejudice. He was kinda racist (as a white dude) and woke up black one morning. His wife freaked, the neighborhood freaked, the community freaked. Ignorance was off the charts, he took a bath in milk to turn "white" again. Eventually his wife left him and he was all alone. (I think he ended up a pariah in his town, they wanted to check his background for 'negro' in his family tree.)

The doctor told him he had a "negro strain." Dude said "You're looking at a strained negro right now, Doc."

Damn, I may have to YouTube that mess and see it again for comedy gold. That dumb scene alone was a win.

what is the big deal? had she dressed in a costume with her boobies and ass hanging out, no one would say a thing. had she dressed in an Elvis costume, no one would say a thing, but because she put on some body paint and went as a sucky black rapper, she is suddenly a terrible person

Lincoln Osiris, doesn't think it is a big deal

also, why is it not only ok, but supposedly funny for the Wayans brothers to dress up like white chicks, yet it is wrong for this white girl to dress up like a black rapper?

It's simple. It's because whites held blacks as slaves. Whites oppressed blacks, and we aren't allowed to do that. Black people doing it is just not a problem though. The main logical reason behind that is because white people don't make a big deal out of it, but blacks will.

Even though the thinking may be off kilter that is the way it is. If you make a stink then your stuff matters more.

In the new movie 2012 the only religious icon not being destroyed is Mecca. The director said it got axed because studio said they feared huge Islamic backlash. The Vatican, Christ on the Hill, no problem though because Christians won't issue a Fatwa on your ass. IE biggest stink makers get left out of a cool movie showing them being destroyed. Talk about a no-fun culture.

If you want to know the real reason blackface so sensative when white people do it watch the silent film THE BIRTH OF A NATION. This film is one of the biggest all time and man, talk about whites perfecting blackface. They look ghoolish and twisted and that insult lingers on with blacks.

I do agree though blacks should then also say don't do things like white chicks, it's just better left undone.

Not to mention the movie was almost as bad as soul plane. Almost as bad.

Come to think of it, there's another source.

Black Like Me was based on the true story of a reporter in the south who took medications to darken his skin. A pretty amazing movie, actually. He documented how differently he was treated when he was percieved as black. (Not sure of the time frame, might have been late 40s - early 60s) A parody was done of this later with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder, where Wilder "blacked up" as a disguise with shoe polish (Cannonball Run?) and had an afro wig. it was actually pretty funny, where he tried to "act" black, strutting and bobbing his head, trying to talk jive. (looked like a damn fool, but funny because you knew the context)

He missed the lips. Chocolate folk don't have pink lips.
