View Full Version : Griese Suspended by ESPN

ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese has been suspended one week for a remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.

Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/27/bob-griese-suspended-for-_n_335070.html

During ESPN's broadcast of the Minnesota-Ohio State game Saturday, a graphic was shown listing the top five drivers in NASCAR's points race. Fellow analyst Chris Spielman asked where was Montoya, who is Colombian.

Griese replied he was "out having a taco."

The national dish of Columbia seems to be a type of potato soup:

Ajiaco is a Colombian potato soup. Although several regions of Colombia have their distinct recipe, the most famous is ajiaco santafereño, named after Santa Fé de Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, where it is a cultural mainstay. It typically contains pieces of chicken, large chunks of corn on the cob, two or three kinds of native potatoes (tiny papas criollas that fall apart and thicken the soup, and give the soup its characteristic dark yellow color; the waxy sabanera and/or the soft pastusa), and guasca (Galinsoga parviflora), a weedy, aromatic herb common in all America that lends the dish part of its distinctive flavour.

The soup is typically served with heavy cream, capers and avocado, all mixed in just before eating in the proportions each individual prefers. Ajiaco is so heavy that it is usually considered a full meal. In the highly regional Colombian cuisine, this is most representative dish of Bogotá. (wiki)

Sounds pretty good. ;D

But I could swear Taco Bell is one of the sponsors of Disney's college football broadcasts, so if saying a race car driver eating a taco is racist then isn't one of the broadcasts's own sponsors racist? Not to mention, Taco Bell is now promoting like crazy the BLACK TACO which, I guess by liberal logic, is doubly racist - particularly if the BLACK TACO might contain fried chicken or watermelon.

Griese wasn't sharp enough to tie his Montoya comment to Taco Bell or he could have slyly gotten out of it.

Now, who was that Golf Channel chick who made the crack about other golfers wanting to lynch Tiger Woods? She got to keep her job so I think Griese is on firm footing as long as he hasn't started an extra-marital affair with a chubby ESPN staffer like Steve Phillips did.

You have to love that outfit. I mean, it is 100% made for power drinking and eating. Loose, big shirt, have your "home for money, smokes, phone, condom" located mid chest. Brown baggy shorts. Love it. The one thing that is missing is a fly though. Seems like you would have to unhook a suspender to take a piss which we all know is difficult when you are doing that off of a balcony or out of a moving vehicle. Maybe you just snake it out of the baggy shorts. Inquiring minds need to know.

I have a slightly different take on this. I don't think the country is going to hell in a handbasket. Most people in America don't care if someone cracks a taco joke, or even something a little more off-color. It's really the media that is so sensitive to the issue - and it's because the modern media gives a huge voice to a small minority of people who shout the loudest.

It's like the whole "War on Christmas." There are probably two people in America who are offended by Christmas decorations. But because their voices are heard through media channels, the schools and cities feel they have to listen, and they overreact. Then Bill O'Reilly overreacts, and suddenly it's a "war." In reality it's two nut jobs vs Bill O'Reilly and everyone one else just wants to enjoy Christmas.

The media makes money from broadcasting shocking stories. It creates a whole lot of hullabaloo that's not really much like real life. They make a lot of money from it, and I just try not to pay too much attention to it.

We also have a number of restaraunts throughout the city that serve grilled beef patties with cheese melted on top in between two seasame seed buns. on the menu they also offer fried sliced frozen potato strips and partially gelatinated soft drinks in a few diferent flavors--served within minutes of ordering!

Oh, definitely tasty. In fact, you can get that blue "black" corn in the form of chips. I get 'em by the bag at about $3.99 a pop. Slightly crunchier than regular corn chips. They're pretty big, too, about three inch triangle size.

great point about Christianity - for all of our political correctedness, Christianity is the one arena where political correctedness is the exception. that's a travesty. if we're going to apply a standard such as political correctedness, it should be applied to all. it's just a major and disgusting double standard.
