Wasted away again by Elvis Dumervil
Try to escape but I'm destined to fall
Some people claim he can be blocked one on one
But I know it's not my tackle's fault

he has been just enormous for us in key situations all season

Elvis stepped right up and did what we asked of him this week. He'd always been a great player, but this week he did it in a huge game.

Props to Evlis. Love that guy. Hard to pick an MVP of this team right now, but he's up there with Orton as our most consistent and valuable performers.

The only answer to stopping him is to hold him.

I said in the game thread that it still looked like he could be game planned around if teams wanted to focus on him.

Then the second half happened.

7 of Doom's sacks come in the 4th quarter.

I cannot believe how ferocious our pass rush has become.

It wasn't just Dumervil, Ayers was right there, the DL was collapsing the pocket, DJ got in the act and we were getting consistent pressure without blitzing.

Last year even when we knew they were going to pass we couldn't get any pressure. But now, I can't remember more than a handful of times when Rivers had a clean pocket with time to throw. Almost every dropback was contested, every pass play was Denver all up in Rivers face.

He got sacked four times, fumbled three times, and was hit, hurried literally dozens of times.

A less mobile and slippery QB would have knocked out of the game.

I loved that A gap overload look with two LBers on either side of the center standing up.

The Chargers had their backup Center in, and that overload look just kept working all second half. They dropped back some, rushed up some but it was great execution. Nolan did a great job calling that instead of loading up the rush from the perimeter.

Great job by Ayers as well. He was in a lot of those plays but just a half step too slow.

That 1st sack/fumble was a thing of beauty. I saw him line-up at the other side of LOS and I just felt that he was coming up big. Nolan is the reason why Dooommmm is such a monster this year--he puts him in the best position for him to make a play! Damn it I love Nolan and McDanieldssss!

Nolan is dialing him up but Doom is a true difference maker in a unique defense that fits him to a "T". I saw Doom used across the board tonight... he was at both OLB spots, MLB, DE and i'm sure DT at some point.

We need to extend him ASAP.

I think that its obvious that Dawkins is the MVP right now.

When Elvis just straight overwhelmed the Charger's right tackle on that third down on the series after the Rivers fumble... that was awesome, pure power. Elvis wanted it more, and he freaking took it.

Dude's gonna test the market I guess. If the FO hasn't tried to sign Elvis long term they're some dumb bunch.

Here's an interesting stat from ESPN.

Elvis Dumervil recorded two sacks, giving him an NFL-best 10 for the season. He's the first player with 10 or more sacks in a team's first six games since Michael Strahan (10Ĺ) in 2001, the same season Strahan set the NFL's single-season sack record of 22Ĺ.

I think that its obvious that Dawkins is the MVP right now.

He's been a great performer and unquestionably, he's the heart and soul of our defense.

Still, as far as pure, consistent performance on the field goes, I think it's a close race. Doom has made game saving/changing plays on a regular basis and Orton has a 100 QB rating, 6 games into the season.

It's a good problem to have when so many guys are performing so well.

I'd pick Clady. Hands down. What a year so far.

Has Tommy Jackson spoken about Dumervil on ESPN?

Like Dumervil, the former Broncos linebacker is also 5-11 and played at Louisville . . .

There not worried because they can protect 3 players, and marshall a RFA. Lot's of ways to protect our interests this coming offseason

JA got way fat off of Detroit and St. Louis, I think Doom will separate himself even more in the coming weeks.

I don't know why the hell this is so funny, but I'm rollin. I think I'm just giddy from this completely unexpected turn around. I wasn't born when the Orange Crush was around, but my dad always told me how great it was to have a real in your face defense. He was right, this is amazing.

Probably so, but I see 2 more sacks in the horizon against Pittsburgh. Ben holds onto the ball too much and that just dial up some more sacks for Doom.

Already on his 2nd step while everyone else including the offense are still on their 1st.

Damn. This picture is amazing. The right tackle had NO chance.

I really hope we extend him and some other guys during this bye week.

Oh and another thing though. Robert Ayers looked like a turd out there. He had one nice stop in the run game against Sproles at the goal line stand when he penetrated inside the D gap and tackles Sproles in the back field.

But as a pass rusher they moved him at either end and he looked like he was running in mud out there. He looks really slow coming off an upright stance.

That was the play where Doom blind sided Rivers and forced the fumble that Holliday recovered.
