VicLombardi On a scale of 1to10 how tough is Josh on you? Orton says 10. And he likes it. Calls McD the best QB mentor in the business.

VicLombardi Orton admits that wearing the glove cost him 2-3 passes a game. The ball would often stick to the glove. You saw the difference last week.

VicLombardi Often overlooked in Orton's job is how much he directs the Broncos running game. He actually changes the run at the line of scrimmage.

VicLombardi Sitting in on Gary's 1on1 with Orton: "I knew the first time I met McDaniels that we a good match right away"

fs3142 LaMont Jordan's absence is due to a funeral, his agent says.

Taking that kinda stuff is called accountability and, in my book, it makes him a man. Dishing it out like that = coaching. Football is about making every player actively responsible for his assignment, being tough is part of coaching and the less time having to accomodate someone's delicate sensitivities means more time focusing on getting better. It's called coachability and the best in the business have it, even John Elway.

If you are getting angry and lashing out with no purpose, that is yelling. When you are correcting your players on their execution, and getting them to focus, that is coaching. Anyway most of the stuff he is yelling is positive: "Lets go... One play is all it takes... Good job.... You got it... Gotta love it"

Nope, the best coaches don't do it. Especially at their quarterbacks.

Of the four most recent SB winners, Tomlin, Dungy, Belichick and Coughlin, only Coughlin would even dream of doing that, and I doubt he'd yell at Eli right there on the sidelines.

Wait, wait... BroncoBuff, are you saying you don't think coaches should yell at their players?

Every coach has a different style. Just because some successful coaches don't yell, doesn't mean you can't do so and be successful as well.

Come on man, if you can't get yelled and and take it like a man you don't deserve to leash up those cleats on Sunday. That's ridiculous. Football players don't have feelings.

Yep. I'd bet Josh learned from his father. I don't have a problem with the style unless and until it approaches Bobby Knight's MO which was way over the top in my opinion but was effective with some kids.

I would rather the head coach do the yelling than him getting some assistant to do it. I see no problem with yelling if the coach has the respect of the players. It is obvious that McD does.

I had coaches that would rip me a new one, but I would run through a wall for thwem then, and still love them today.

First of all, this isn't true. I've seen peyton and Dungy go at it. Secondly, how about Reid, Parcels, Bellichick, Lombardi, Ditka, Cowher. All excellent coaches who have been seen yelling at their players on the sideline. Shanahan used to yell at Plummer all the time.

Here are some coaches that usually don't: Wade Phillips, Norv Turner, Dennis Green, Dave Wanstadt.

One thing to keep in mind is what is said in yelling. Nothing we have heard is demeaning to the player(s) at all. For example:

When pointing out that Orton missed a read, he didn't say "You see, this is why Chicago got rid of you, missed plays like this!" This is intended to motivate, but really only demoralizes the player.

What he did say is "I'm not talking about My Bad! Just make the damn play!"

When you really think think about this statement, he is really saying "Excuses are not going to win the game for us Kyle, just make the play because I know you can." What did Orton do--pout or play? He made the damn play, it was the Marshall TD to end the game.

Those are two completely different types of statements. And I have no doubt all the coaches and players know this. In the Monday morning presser after the Pats game, McD was asked about the thrashing he gave his ST's coach and he mentioned something to the affect that "I tell them all the time, listen to what I say, not how I say it."

So again, I think he is just accepted by everyone that he is just an emotional guy that raises his voice to get his point across. Nobody takes it personal except people outside the organization that doesn't know better.

This is absolutely true; he also yelled at Greise. However, he made a huge mistake in not holding Cutler accountable and confronting him when he made his boner plays, and he made plenty. He didn't have to yell at him, but he should have at least confronted him, and I never saw that.

And you biatches better watch the pussy talk... I can kick all your asses, ya big babies.

But all seriousness, it's the content of what Josh says. I like his enthusiasm, as long as he doesn't become a douche like Bobby Knight and choke someone or take the OM asshat approach of namecalling people instead of providing constructive, useful criticism

Useful criticism long version: should hold the person accountable for their performance and point out causes of problems and perhaps get them to be able to self identify recurring issues for improvement, all while providing possible solutions -

Useful Criticism short version is accountability with encouragement like: "No more my bad, just make the play" or whatever.

Are you still cranky about the whole Simms thing?

Thanks, but that's not it ... not here anyway. I just don't like screaming on the sidelines, especially at the quarterback. That's my opinion. I suppose for this team, where we came from last year, some of this is good - like I said, I loved when he yelled at the special teams coach. But the quarterback is different ... there's a maxim in the league that you don't embarrass your quarterback in public because he's your leader on the field.

Let me know when someone asks a mod to censor your posts or delete them, then you can whine about people not permitting you to have your opinion. Until then, it's an Internetz message board, people call everyone's opinion out all the time. That's how it works.

Grow some thicker skin if you can't handle people calling you out because they think it's hilarious that you're complaining about professional athletes being yelled at by their coaches.

If this team was 0-5, anyone posting anything positive would be getting called out by all the people who have conveniently disappeared over the past month. That's the nature of the beast.

This is correct
Its not about criticizing the team or upsetting "happy unicorn land", this is just more stupid asinine whining

We heard people whine about Josh lying to his players because he used "we" when referring to the Broncos FO
People whine about the playcalling in preseason
Whine about the defense after the first week...."its not clutch" or criticizing it for points it DIDNT give up

Now more whining about how Josh is a meanie even though players are high fiving him and hugging him after games

And I'm surprised you guys don't see this, it's not a mystery or anything: It's not the differing opinions that bother people, I don't care all that much what most people think (especially you Herc). This is pretty twisted thinking. Sorry HEAV, but that's just nuts.

but dude you are 100% wrong as well. you didnt predict 5-0, you didnt predict the defense would be #1 in the NFL, that means you are just as wrong as those who thought the team was going to implode and get moved to LA

</moron>

To be honest, I have no idea what you're trying to say.

It's not about right and wrong, it's about the angry intolerance of opinions that differ from yours.

Yes, there were AWFUL whiners, me at the front of the line.

But for the most part we did not attack the happy unicorn crowd. We were complaining/whining about Bowlen, Josh, Xanders, etc., not you guys. That's the difference. And what I'm saying here should not be disputed really. We attacked the principals, you attacked us.

thats ****ing horse**** and you know it. every person that supported the team got slammed all day for being a ****ing homer and koolaid drinker. theres a reason every debate turned into why mcd is gonna kill this team and why there was such a divide, idiot doom and gloomers and people who will wait to see how his coaching career plays out, which as of now couldnt be better.

I'm sorry, that's just not what happened. Very very few posters personally attacked those who were positive. We attacked/whined and endlessly complained about Bowlen, Xanders and especially Josh, definitely. But rarely did we attack individuals personally. At the same time, you and Popps were constantly throwing personal attacks at those who complained. Popps called people the "c word even (although Blue conveniently forgets about that), you guys were and are - even in this thread - attacking PEOPLE, not ideas. Just read through this thread ... if you can't see what I'm saying, I'm not sure I can help you.

And hey you geniuses, I'm still waiting to hear who it is I'm "brown-nosing?" ROFL!

Just give up on the brown-nosing stuff. If you do, I promise I'll explain what that term really means, and how my position is the exact opposite of brown-nosing. Come on, adult education is a good thing!

He doesn't like a head coach yelling at the QB... Who cares?

Why the overreaction to it?

He said something stupid and he's getting called out for it. Why do you feel the need to be his knight in shining armor? Do you guys have a side deal where you'll get each others backs when the going gets tough?

Well, She-ra was aimed at girls for goodness sakes. I am guessing you didn't like Barbies or Strawberry shortcake either. Or if you did, then I might have to wonder.
