That punt unit needs to get it's **** together, ASAP.

Also, what was with having 2 returners late in the game? That had disaster written ALL over it.

The look McDaniels shot Mike Priefer after the second punt on the three punt drive tells me that you are absolutely right. What is awesome is that nobody started freaking out, and it was clear that McDaniels made a mental note to address it later and went right back to trying to win the game. I don't know a hell of a lot of teams that could stop a team twice, have punt penalties on each, and still make the stop a third time.

Indeed. I mean, if people questioned the defense before, you can't question it now. But our ST can't be putting the defense in those kind of positions.

Yep, absolutely. But for the first time in a VERY long time, I have confidence in the powers that be to actually figure out what the problem is and go fix it. I would bet a lot of money that special teams next week is vastly improved.

ThaT SERIES DEFINED THIS DEFENSE TO MY WAY OF THINKING.

IMO it just comes down to discipline. Not jumping offsides, knowing if you can legitimately make a play for the ball, etc.

They'll be fine, but a really poor showing today.

When you have them punting from inside the 10 you DO NOT rush the punter!!! Seriuosly! Then, we hold them in that drive. THEN our ST enters the neutral zone! Seriously, those are two mistakes that should not have been made.

There is some serious work that needs to be done. Especially on the first penalty!

Yeah, and I think I know what it might be. I think every single guy on that team wants to go out on the field and play his heart out. That leads to jumpiness and overreaching on special teams because a lot of those guys don't get on the field much.

Not an excuse, but I think that's what it might be, a symptom of a team that is motivated like hell to go out there and whip ass.

Special teams struggled today but got it done.

The running into kicker really I can forgive. Dude is trying to make a huge play to win the game.

The offsides was unforgivable.

Kern hit a couple mediocre punts and Prater had a few short kickoffs. And he missed a kick.

Thats what so cool is we are 5-0 despite having tons of room for getting better.

On that last punt, 2 returners were looking to catch the ball....

I almost felt they would collide and the ball would touch one of them and become live or some similar disaster..... that would be a cruel thing to happen...

Why was there a miscommunication on that one?

That had to be SMiths mistake. I would think the deep man is supposed to be able to run under that.

Exactly. Like I said, that had disaster written all over it. My heart stopped for a second.

I could not agree more. I am thrilled with this win. Absolutely great! However there are a few areas of concern. The good part is, I really think those areas of concern can be fixed during a season which isn't always the case.

Not only does the discipline of the special teams need to be addressed, but my biggest concern is the run blocking of the O-line.

Everyone is getting ready to declare this O-line as perhaps the best in the NFL, but how many short yardage situations have we been stuffed on? And I just can't put that on the RB, whether it be Hillis, Moreno or Jordan. There has been SO MANY short yardage stuffs. so far it has not come back to bite us, but if we don't imporve in that area, it will.

As far as special teams goes...WTF was with the sh***y kickoffs?

I mean, Gostkowski was booting them through the back of the endzone, and Prater was landing them just inside the 5.

Last week (and most of the season), he's booted them to the middle/back or though the endzone. WTF happened today??

Kern needs to be taught to not completely avoid those hits from people trying to block punts. Take an indirect hit and act like a European soccer player afterward.
