There were just playing highlights from the Steelers Chargers game with Ben Rothlesberger wired up. At one point he looks over at Merriman after a play has finished and says "Whoa man, I haven't seen you all night. You okay? You good man?" Merriman just mumbles he is fine and jogs off. Classic.

I don't know if it was steroids or his knee but he seems like a completely different player.

It was steroids that he used to heal fast. Now he heals slower because his body wants those roids now.

You all could be right. He is definitely not much of a factor out there right now.

But roids are not the issue. He looks to be in better shape than ever.

I think he is trying to protect his knee during a contract year.

Maybe AJ's soft comment will light a fire.

Karenin

But but according to the Chargers trolls his absence was the entire reason they were 8-8 last year... he was supposed to come back and single handedly return them to their former glory days, you know, back when they'd go 14-2 and lose in the first round of the playoffs.

Well, all the roid jokes aside, I think he'll bounce back eventually once he's healthy again. Whether that's sometime this year or perhaps next year on a different team, who knows?

And I'll say it again, I'm not a huge Merriman fan but he's played at a high level even after the steroid suspension. Whether you like him or not, he's is an elite player when healthy.

azbroncfan

He was pretty damn dominant before the knee injury. He looks to have loss the explosive power moves he had before. That makes two elite players from SD that have gone from elite 2 years ago to nonfactors.

He has talent and I dont just base it on roids. I think him waiting for surgery has cost him talent during the first part of the season. I hope he struggles all season long but this isnt based on lack of his natural talent but not being 100% healthy. I hope he still stinks when we go out to SD.

Hard to compare middle linebackers to outside linebackers. Merriman had 39.5 sacks in his first three years. You can count on one hand how many players had that many sacks in their first three years.

I wouldn't write him off just yet.

I am pretty sure if he ends up on another team next year he will blow it up, especially if he ends up in Baltimore as I suspect.

He was fine after the whole roid incident. It's amazing what two olinemen can do to you with their cheap shots is the correct answer. Right now he's only at 90 percent because he's still dragging his feet from the surgery.

I honestly don't want him to leave San Diego until it's a known fact that he's done. We can still get at least a first and a third for him this offseason. But I don't see us giving up on him this season.

You wont get a first and a third for him.

He's a known roid taker which drops his stock. He's injured which drops his stock. He has under-performed when his talent up front isn't there which drops his stock.

You MIGHT get a 3rd for him, maybe a 2nd, but not a first.

The season is still young and he's still not completely back yet. If we don't get anything for him that is worthy this offseason then we keep him for next season. People forget that he's only 25 and is even younger than Ware. He's still got a lot of upside. People also forget that he tested positive once during the 2006 offseason (not during the actual season), and that after the incident he absolutely tore it up that year. And he continued to do well in 2007 despite Cottrell having him in coverage for like 75 % of the time.

And don't say never when Snyder is still the owner of Washington.

Why don't they play the amazing Jyles Tucker then? Jyles Tucker is good for a three sacks a game, right?

Want to bet money that whatshisface in SD will try to trade Roidman for less than what YOU believe he is worth? What the hell is the GMs name. AJ? I cant remmeber. Whatever he will try to get rid of him for less than what you think.

I do think it's funny that whenever a fan from any team hopes for more value than their trade bait is worth, that they look to Dan Snyder like he's Santa Claus.

The Redskins won't trade for him though, especially after drafting Orakpo and the fact that Portis is probably off the team this offseason and maybe Campbell too. They're definitely going to look to upgrade their offense since their D has been pretty good for some time. It will depend on the coach, but whoever is brought in will be instructed to fix the offense.

And Richard Seymour was worth one first round pick. A guy who looks like a shadow of his former self because he stopped taking 'roids and coming off a knee injury is going to garner more? If Merriman keeps looking crappy like he has all year, there will be very few people wanting to give very much up for a guy that looks like he's done and is one misstep from being banned for a year. Get real, Xenos.

I understand your point. If he does continue to be play like he has this year and continues be injury plagued, then yes I don't see us getting a first and a third. I am, however, seeing the fact that it is still early in the season and that it was expected that he wouldn't be 100% this year. If he improves as the season continues then I can see someone like Snyder giving a lot up for him. This is the same guy who wanted Cutler in the offseason despite the declining play, the poor work habit (ie. the drinking before games), and risk of diabetes affecting his play. Besides Snyder, I can see other team owners being tempted as well.

Like I already mentioned, Merriman has already shown that he can play at a high level even after the steroid incident. His injury right now is really the only thing holding him back. And youth is another important factor.

But I don't really want to lose him because I think he'll bounce back.

As for your other Snyder comment about them improving their offense, once again you're talking about a guy who goes after the big names instead of what's actually good for his organization.

Well, they would be stupid to trade him now when he's not 100% unless some team wants to really overpay for him. His stock is down. You have to wait until he shows that he's back to normal.

Unless he has some devastating injury this season, I think it's a certainty that he'll get tagged so you either hope he goes back to his normal self this season and if not, he'll have time to get healthy for 2010.
