View Full Version : Right Wingers Creating "Liberal Free" Bible

Those pesky little zealots are back at it. They want to take the Bible back to its "conservative" roots.
Yeah, Jesus was really a conservative. Must be an amazing new revelation. Anyway, they intend to scour the Bible for anything they consider "liberal" and exorcise it, so to speak.
Here's their guide:
1. Framework against Liberal Bias: providing a strong framework that enables a thought-for-thought translation without corruption by liberal bias
2. Not Emasculated: avoiding unisex, "gender inclusive" language, and other modern emasculation of Christianity
3. Not Dumbed Down: not dumbing down the reading level, or diluting the intellectual force and logic of Christianity; the NIV is written at only the 7th grade level[3]
4. Utilize Powerful Conservative Terms: using powerful new conservative terms as they develop;[4] defective translations use the word "comrade" three times as often as "volunteer"; similarly, updating words which have a change in meaning, such as "word", "peace", and "miracle".
5. Combat Harmful Addiction: combating addiction by using modern terms for it, such as "gamble" rather than "cast lots";[5] using modern political terms, such as "register" rather than "enroll" for the census
6. Accept the Logic of Hell: applying logic with its full force and effect, as in not denying or downplaying the very real existence of Hell or the Devil.
7. Express Free Market Parables; explaining the numerous economic parables with their full free-market meaning
8. Exclude Later-Inserted Liberal Passages: excluding the later-inserted liberal passages that are not authentic, such as the adulteress story
9. Credit Open-Mindedness of Disciples: crediting open-mindedness, often found in youngsters like the eyewitnesses Mark and John, the authors of two of the Gospels
10. Prefer Conciseness over Liberal Wordiness: preferring conciseness to the liberal style of high word-to-substance ratio; avoid compound negatives and unnecessary ambiguities; prefer concise, consistent use of the word "Lord" rather than "Jehovah" or "Yahweh" or "Lord God."

I'm guessing at some point they are going to want to remove the stars of "liberal" states from the flag.

What could possibly go wrong?
Wonder what they'll do with the part that says anyone who adds or takes away from the words of Scripture will get the equivalent of a lightning bolt enima and/or an eternal round of golf with Satan, Hitler and Al Davis.

You've got to be kidding me.
The Bible as we know it is the work of thousands of scholars who have dedicated their lives to intellectual debate and study of ancient history, Hebrew, Latin, ancient lore and God knows how many other facets of our past.
Even with all of that it's still got a lot of translation issues and debates. Add on to that hardly anybody actually reads THE ENTIRE THING let alone know HOW to read it.
This is going to be a desecration to Literature and Christianity. What a disaster. It will probably be the number one selling version of the Bible in two years.

8. Exclude Later-Inserted Liberal Passages: excluding the later-inserted liberal passages that are not authentic, such as the adulteress story
Well, it was a later added passage. Don't know why they would even want to paint mercy and forgiveness as strictly "liberal" virtues, though. Politics make people do some strange things.

Meh, just another revision in a long line of ideologically motivated revisions to a work of historical fiction.
Their particular motivation is absurd, but they aren't doing anything fundamentally new with the book.

If you go back further, The Bible is the work of a politically-motivated council that decided which scriptures should be included and which ones should be excluded.

This is true. There are lots of edits. There are lots of redundant passages. But there are major differences. Some of those edits were relatively contemporary to when they were written. Others were at least within the same millennium.
This isn't about the word of God. It's about the literary work we know as the Bible and the relevant messages that it has. I'm leaving the spiritual side entirely out of it. This is just going to make peoples understanding of the Bible even worse. But then again I doubt the target audience of this one ever did read more than a handful of passages to begin with.

And leave us not forget that many Bible stories and motifs were lifted outright from earlier Babylonian and Egyptian sources.

European Artists.
Liberal European artists are responsible for for the vast majority of our modern day imagery and idea of what Jesus looked like and how things in the Bible happened.
From the three wise men to the manger and much more.

Who cares. It's a make believe book to begin with. Let them make their "artistic vision" come true on the remake. Revise it as much as you want. I will ask that this time, they should add something about santa clause and finally tie that whole thing together....

And then there are those believers waiting for Jesus to return to Missouri. All a bunch of f'ing retards - I bet half the people would be offended at drawings of what Jesus p'bly really looked like.

I know what you mean. It's like the world wants to put you to sleep with it's own deep seated ignorance.
Is this a green lettered bible where free market concepts are highlighted in green letters? Is the free market concordance quoting from the Book of Reagan available? Is there a chapter called Bush in it? Is Glenn Beck on one side of Jesus and Rush on the other?
I am stuck between self pitying weepy eyed conservatives and angry moderates. All this talk about liberals. I don't see any "real" liberals posting on this board. You have conservatives, flaming conservatives, retarded conservatives, soft hearted conservatives, left of center conservatives...(in my best Forest Gump impression) I think that's about it.

Which version the King James? The New International? When has church and politics been separate? I don't know how many versions of the bible there are but I heard there is a gay version of the bible written awhile ago.

I stick with the King James version, it's hard to read but I don't really know if the newer, more popular translations are accurate. The NIV is written at a 7th grade level, which is nice and I know why they did that (more accessible for everyone), but you lose much of the profound intellectual insight into Judeo Christian foundational parameters (the foundation upon which Western Society is built).
It will be another translation of the bible, not sure why this is necessary.
