Coach Wade Phillips revealed Monday that Roy E. Williams damaged cartilage in three of his ribs during the Cowboys' Week 4 loss.
Williams' status for Week 5 is in doubt, and the Cowboys could hold him out with a bye coming in Week 6. Williams' ribs are not cracked, but he's likely in a considerable amount of pain. The $54 million receiver is on pace for just 44 catches and 856 yards through four weeks. Should he miss a game, Sam Hurd would see more snaps opposite the Patrick Crayton/Miles Austin rotation. He's lucky he still has all his internal organs after that hit.

ETA: I cannot stop watching that hit.

I don't like to see Roy hurt though... nice hit but I hope he doesn't have anything permanent.

3 Bruised ribs = extended time on the bench.

Ive had a bruised rib before and its awfully painful to even breath much less move around. My pops (who has broken a rib and bruised a rib) says bruised ribs actually hurt more because you aren't as careful as when you have a broken rib.

It took me about 3 weeks before my rib healed to a point where I could do anything physical again. Williams is down and out for at least the next 3 weeks, I promise.

Looks to me like Romo hung is boy out there to dry. If I was Roy W I would have limped back to the huddle and smacked the sh!t out of Romo for setting me up like that. One of the hardest hits Ive seen from our "D" in a while. We had some hard hits last year on ST but this year our "D" is flying to the ball. I wonder if Randy what a guy Moss will watch that hit?

I love it when Broncos put players out of the game. It's a very effective way to throw an offense out of rhythm.

"Roy Williams did not speak to the media on Monday but the wide receiver appeared to be in some pain a day after taking a D.J. Williams' helmet to his rib cage that left him gasping for air."

Looks like Mr. Todd Archer didn't watch the game. Replay clearly shows he hit him with his shoulder, not his helmet.

Also Beantown, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is a fine/penalty for hitting a defenseless receiver if it's a legal hit, i.e. NOT with your helmet.

I'm not sure of the official rule, considering the crap that was being flagged yesterday and the fact that this one was flagged last year, I'm surprised.

This looks almost identical to me:

It doesn't look identical to me at all. Welker didn't even have a chance to catch the ball - didn't reach for it, didn't touch it. Roy was going up for the ball and got a hand on the ball when DJ came in with the hit.

I like how both feet are flopping around uncontrollably just after impact. Im surprised he was'nt burping up bone paste and lung frags after that one.

I picked up on the same thing...little bit of PR spin there to make the hit seem illegal or Roy sound tougher. Either way, wrong.

His touching that ball is probably what saved the play from getting flagged. Hitting defenseless receivers now falls under unneccesary roughness, but I think Williams was in the act of catching enough that the hit was legal.

The key part is DJ's elbow jamming him right in the junk at the same time. NO man could survive that hit.

Then again you didn't have a giant medical staff tending to your injury

Actually, I believe the issue is where he hit Roy. Welker got hit in the head. That's illegal. Roy was hit in the ribs. Perfectly legal.

He didn't get Welker in the head. It was upper chest. If you look at the slow motion replay, particularly at the 29 sec mark, it's more clear.

I think the league agrees, because he was not fined for the play, and they definitely would've if he went head hunting.

oh so you're putting him up there with two of the hardest hitters in football history because of one hit?

Atwaters is known more than just one hit, IMHO.

IMHO they all hit hard...lol, yep I'm wrong for thinking that all nfl players hit hard. well, except for maybe primetime.

DJ smoked roy and you just can't get over it. Atwater smoked okoye. and kc is still trying to get over it. :wiggle:

tsiguy96

its not on the same level though. okoye was a monster of a RB, had like 60 pounds on atwater and was known for blowing up defenders i believe. atwater went head to head with him and destroyed him at the line. DJ destroyed a WR going up for a jump ball.
