Denver's Defensive Stats:

#5 Rush Defense
#3 Pass Defense
#1 in Sacks
#2 in opposing QB rating (56.0)
#1 Points Per Game (10 points per game less than #2)
#3 (tie) Interceptions

#8 (tie) Rushing TDs given up (2)
#3 (tie) Fumbles recovered
#3 3rd Down Percentage

Wow.

Of 11 Major Statistical Categories, Denver is #1 4 of them top 5 in TEN of them. ANd the one we aren't top 5 in, the difference between us and 1 is a very small number.

Its a long way to go yet. Lots of stuff to improve on in all phases of the game and a tough road yet ahead but holy **** the turnaround at this point is nothing short of a miracle.

Nothing short of astounding. This is a team that gave up an average of 28 points per game last year.....two points more than they've allowed through the first quarter of this season.

One of the most encouraging things about this defense is how physical they are. Gone are the days of the finesse defense, these guys hit people in the mouth, beginning with their leader, Brian Dawkins. He's brought an attitude to this unit that's been lacking for far too long.

D held the #4 scoring offense to 10 points. 14 points less than the Cowboys average per game. We are #2 in turnovers at +7. Un-be-lievable.

I sure hope McD is taking notes on the defense because if this keeps up, Nolan won't be our DC for long.

If I were the Bowlen, I would match any offer another team would make for him. I don't care if he makes the same amount as Josh, he needs to stay and we need to do our best to make sure he does. I'm not so sure he would want to leave to be a HC again with those responsibilities if he were making that same amount being our DC long term. I'm sure if Bowlen said to him, you're job is safe here for as long as you want, that might be enough.

What Nolan has done to this point is far more impressive than what Mike did until he won us 2 SBs.

Look, I dont think a team that finished 30-32 in most defensive stats in one season has EVER turned around and been a top 5 defense the VERY NEXT SEASON.

Seriously, if Denver finishes in the top 5 in total defense and scoring defense, it has to be the most amazing turnaround for a unit in NFL history.

We look like we can compete with anyone. I really like the way Knowshon plays. He's got fire and seems like a natural leader. Doom needs to be paid now and Brandon reminds of why we won't let him go

I hope that Nolan is thinking, as anybody in his position probably would, that maybe he is a great assistant but not a head coaching type, like Buddy Ryan or Leo Mazzone. I think he should be made Assistant Head Coach if he sticks around and the success continues, and I agree entirely re Bowlen matching any offers.

One week at a time I think ...

IF douche.

IF Denver's defense finishes in the top 5 in the league at the end of the year.

READING COMPREHENSION.

And no, that's not an exaggeration.

I dare you to find ANY unit in HISTORY of the game that went from 30th one year to top 5 the next.

One week at a time I think ...

He said IF, not that they would. He's right, though. Last year's defense was the relatively the worst American football defense I have ever seen, on any level, ever, ever, ever. The Broncos don't have to keep up this pace for it to be an amazing turnaround (because they won't). It is already an amazing turnaround.

I wonder if our Defensive coordinator from last year is taking notes...and better yet I wonder if Shanahan now wishes he had handed the "D" over to a real coordinator instead of a puppet.

haha. That didn't take long.

The defense is really impressive. Nolan really has something to prove this year after his failure in SF, and that motivation is paying off tremendously.

Hopefully he realizes that he is a coordinator at his best, and sticks around for a while a la Dick LeBeau

Slowik would have gotten the job done once he was allowed to get some players in...

At least, that's what one very prominent poster on here has told me before.

Slowik that ****ing dried up Cum stain, I remember one game he told the media,"I hope we can hold San Diego to FG's". What kind of leadership is that?

Having a DC who knows how to attack and confuse offenses is sure a nice thing to have for a change.

I think our offense needs to get a little better in order for us to beat top 5-10 teams. But you're right in that our defense should keep us in most games.

Anyone know who gave up the sacks yesterday? Mostly the fault of the interior line. My guess is that we'll less of Hamilton and more of Olsen. Hochstein blows!

Nolan won't last here more than a year or two if he keeps this shiat up. He'll get another shot at a head coaching gig. I wish he'd be like Dick Lebeau and decide that he just belongs as a DC. Have Pat pay him $1.5-2m per season to stay a DC and have him here for the next 10 years. That being said, I really like how both Donatell and Martindale coach so maybe there is a "next in line" type already on the staff if Nolan gets another HC gig.

Sacks were all blitzes so its hard to put too much blame on the O-line and easier to just give credit to Dallas' defense for overloading the front when we went empty backfield.

IIRC every sack came on the empty backfield set.

i love how nolan is calling the game but let's not forget the rest of the staff. the collection of coaches that we have are doing a great job and that's why we're 4-0. i am so impressed how bowlen, xanders, and mcdaniels put the best staff together we have ever had and it shows. i mean, taking the strengths of some the best parts of divisional teams was genius. look at the dline of the chargers now, they completely suck. we're built to win the divison, that's all i want for now. anything after is gravy. i am so excited about the future of the franchise, way to much kool-aid but it feels so good. go broncos!

Also bringing in an impact player like Dawkins has a huge effect on everyone. When Dawakins came off the field, he was so fired up .... it made me want to jump through the screen and hit someone....... Is this fun or what
