View Full Version : Raiders lousy fans!

This pretty much sums it up about Raider fans..pitiful!!

Since the Raiders returned to Oakland from Los Angeles in 1995,
43 of their 71 home games have been blacked out in their
television market. Under league rules, a game that isn't sold
out 72 hours before kickoff isn't televised.

Lets face it if their own games are not sold out......... If they can not even get behinde the team when they are winning left and right when they suck like this year????? I dont know there are a few really good raiders fans out there perhaps its that most of them are in jail right now or hoodlems that cant afford even cheap seats.

Broncos have one of the longest streeks of sold out games in NFL. true there are some games that thousands dont show up but that I think is mainly all the scalpers buying 30 tickets a pop just to try and sell them. (I have personal feelings on that but that would be a different thread)

One thing that sets Bronco fans apart is their team loyalty. Thinking about that now I guess that sets the Raider fans apart too Nnyah!

The Raiders have become a victim of the image they themselves worked for decades to cultivate. True, 20 years ago they had a bad boy mentality on the field but those days are long gone. Now, with just that as an image they attract all the losers, gangsters, criminals, and low lifes to their cause. Would you want to take your family to a Raider game? If I had children I wouldn’t want them anywhere near that group of fans even if I did support that team.

The city and A$ are jobbing the fans. Now why Miami can't sell out, after making the playoffs, then taking for one lousy year with a meldown, and then getting Saban AND Cedric .............. those fans suck.

How difficult is this for you to understand?

Have the Raiders cultivated an outlaw image over the years? Yes

Does their fan base reflect this mentality? Yes

Does this hurt attendance? Of course

Why is Raider fan so notorious? I’m sure that Charger fan that got shanked in stands or the Bills fan that got beaten unconscious and urinated upon in the restroom agree with the stereotype.

Date rape can be that. But date rape can also be a girl crying rape after a night of getting too hammered to know what was going on.

Whose fault is it? I dont know, I dont cast aspersions on such things, especially since my sister was raped at the age of 17. I just know that they classify date rape differently than forcible rape. Still treated as rape, just in a different category.

Raiders fan gets five years for stabbing Chargers fan

June 12, 2001 Print it

SAN DIEGO -- An Oakland Raiders fan was sentenced to five years in prison for stabbing a San Diego Chargers fan after the two teams played at Qualcomm Stadium in October.

A Superior Court judge on Monday rejected a recommendation by a probation officer that Luis Fernando Uribe spend a year in local jail.

The 39-year-old Uribe pleaded guilty in March to attacking Daniel Napier after the Raiders beat San Diego 15-13.

Judge Peter Deddeh said he didn't believe Uribe was remorseful.

Uribe and others had been drinking heavily and yelling at Napier and others during the game, according to court testimony. Napier responded by blowing kisses in Uribe's direction.

Ordering a decent meal while on the lam just isn't the way to go. Buffets are quick, easy, and most importantly for the welfare recipients that are Jokeland fans...cheap.

Oakland fans likely to get wary welcome in San Diego

By Michael Stetz and Chris Jenkins
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITERS

January 17, 2003

Already, a growing whisper can be heard around San Diego, particularly from those who cater to Super Bowl revelry.

It says: Not them.

Please.

Anybody but them.

"I'd have deep, deep concerns," said a general manager of a local hotel, asked to comment on the possibility of the Oakland Raiders' making it to the Super Bowl and their fans' streaming/barreling/belching into America's Finest City and booking rooms in his establishment.

"Let's face it. There are good Raider fans, people who are just like any other fans, and a large percentage of them are like that," said the manager, who asked not to be named for fear of riling up Raider Nation. "But, sheesh. There are those who fit the stereotype."

Some Gaslamp Quarter restaurants and bars are thinking of adding security should Oakland beat the Tennessee Titans in Sunday's AFC Championship Game and earn a berth in Super Bowl XXXVII on Jan. 26 at Qualcomm Stadium.

They have reason to be afraid. Oakland is favored by more than a touchdown and is playing at home.

Fans of the Silver and Black – some of whom like to don Gothic makeup, wield phony swords, smear fake blood on their faces and wear chains and leather – do not have the best of reputations, particularly in San Diego.

The Raiders visit Qualcomm Stadium every year to play their division rivals, the Chargers. Many times, the results are not pretty, what with tens of thousands of Raiders fans swarming the venue and mixing with Chargers fans. San Diego police increase security. Alcohol sales are curtailed early.

Everybody crosses their fingers that nobody gets shot, electrocuted or beheaded.

Violence has struck before. At the 2000 game in San Diego, a Chargers fan was stabbed. The attack was caught on tape by a TV station, and the footage, for a time, was posted on a Raiders fan Web site.

The year before that, several fights broke out in the stands. They were so nasty, players on the field watched with concern.

In 1996, a Raiders fan bit off part of an ear of a Chargers fan when the two got into an argument in an Ocean Beach bar.

Despite such incidents, not everyone is ready to hit the panic button should Raider Nation end up in San Diego for the big show. The Super Bowl is hardly a Joe Six-Pack event. Corporate big shots, not recent felons, make up the fan base.

Others argue that the reputation of Raiders fans is more hype than reality.

"I think a lot of it is blown out of proportion," said Sean Hale, manager of Dick's Last Resort in the Gaslamp. "Raider fans, true Raider fans, are just big fans of the sport."

It's rare for a Super Bowl city to play host to a rival team, and some speculate that prospect may be fueling a bit of the concern.

"There's this ongoing competition between the two teams," said Heather Nottoli, contract administrator with the security firm Off-Duty Officers Inc. The company has had clients call to ask about adding security should the Raiders win Sunday. "Yes, some are concerned. Whether it's justified, I don't know."

Having the Raiders in town for the Super Bowl would be vastly different than having them here for a regular-season game, said Ky Snyder, president of the Super Bowl Host Committee.

They won't be playing the Chargers, so that element is removed.

Like others, Snyder questions just how threatening Raiders fans really are. Much of it is pageantry, he said.

"Last time, we had people wearing cheeseheads," he said, referring to the Wisconsin fans who came to see the Green Bay Packers in the last Super Bowl in San Diego, in 1998.

"This time," he quipped, "it'll be black skulls and spikes."

Bill Wilson, general manager of Qualcomm Stadium, doesn't foresee problems, even if the Raiders are showcased.

"Remember, this is not a $56 ticket. It's $400 for the cheap seats," he said. "And you've got to have a ticket just to get on the trolley. So there won't be the usual onslaught of Raider fans. Most won't be able to get near the stadium."

Still, having the Raiders in the Super Bowl is not the best-case scenario for San Diego, some say.

For one thing, it's economics. Raiders fans won't be as likely as fans from Tennessee to make the visit to San Diego a several-day trip. Many of their fans are based in Oakland and Los Angeles, so they can drive here as late as game day.

Also, having Tennessee in the Super Bowl affords peace of mind. The perception is that Raiders fans bring more trouble. And that may dampen the party.

Said one manager of a Gaslamp bar: "I've talked to a lot of people about this, and from a business standpoint, they're not looking forward to it. They don't feel so good about it for security reasons. I think most businesses would like the Titans to win."

Imagine that you're planning to rent your home to Super Bowl fans. And imagine someone from the Raiders' "Black Hole" – the section of Oakland's Network Associates Coliseum that the more colorful characters inhabit – comes knocking.

The thought has some a little nervous.

"It's not like I would try to spoil their fun, but they (Raiders fans) tend to have more fun than most sports fans," said Regina VanderWerff, who is attempting to rent an apartment downtown during Super Bowl week.

But VanderWerff said she will continue to look for renters even if the Raiders make it.

"I wouldn't say no just because of that," she said. "It really depends on the person.

Joel Bryden, a San Diego police captain who's in charge of the special services division and who works with the Super Bowl Host Committee, says a Raiders presence in the Super Bowl would bring some particular challenges.

"We would expect more fans to come to town because of the large fan base in Los Angeles," he said. "We don't anticipate Raider fans en masse going to the Super Bowl like when they play the Chargers."

He expects Raiders fans to cluster in areas such as the Gaslamp or Pacific Beach. Still, he noted, there will be a significant police presence in those areas.

Not everyone is rooting against the Raiders. The team has a fan base even here in San Diego. One of the bars Raiders fans frequent is the Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery in the Gaslamp. The manager, Don Pennington, plans to arrange a VIP room for die-hard Oakland fans.

"We never have problems with them," he said. "It's been nothing but positive."

Then there's George "King" Stahlman, the well-known owner of a local bail bonds company. "I love it," he said of the possibility of the Raiders' making the Super Bowl.

Although business doesn't spike when the Raiders play here during the regular season, it may during the Super Bowl, he said.

"Something could happen. You never know."

Well what did you expect? He couldn't very well sit down and order. Like most Fade fans he was wanted on felony charges and had skipped bail. Ordering a decent meal while on the lam just isn't the way to go. Buffets are quick, easy, and most importantly for the welfare recipients that are Jokeland fans...cheap.
I was referring to Meck actually.

I still can't believe the Raiders dont sell out games. Smack aside...thats amazing to me.

This is a team that has moved from Oakland to LA and then back again like 4 times. I don't know how you could be shocked.

I wouldnt pay thousands of dollars for a PSL that expires then pay top dollar to watch a football game in a baseball stadium. To sit in the middle top of Mt Davis costs 69 dollars and you have to duck the airplanes going by.

The Raiders are in no way responsible for marketing and selling their tickets. The city of Oakland is. Who woulda thunkit, a government agency ****ing something up.

struck a nerve didn't I? you asked for facts...You got them. You ask any group of fans in the NFL who has the worst repuation and you will get the same answer. You don't have to do to a "Donk" board to get the responses you are getting.

Yeah I drive a raggady bus. You got it. I'm an idiot. :-/ I'm not the Raider fan living on a Broncos board. Who is the fool?

You need to relax man.

Come to NY and the fans will tell you that the bills have the worst fans. No I don't have to come to a Donks board to get that response and that is the problem... the jim rome wannabees are all over the place. OM has some good posters but the mentality as of late is really disturbing.

Yeah I'm a Raider Fan on a Donk board, but I hardly live here. If I qualify as a fool for visiting a donkey board... fine... At least I'm not co-signing with a person who makes a blanket statement about an entire group of people without credible facts to prove that all Raider Fans fit into a specific category. So, who's more foolish.....

Usually, the last remaining tickets unsold are the Mt. Davis tickets around the goal line and ten yard line. I sat up there one time in one of the lower rows around the 30 yard line and it sucked.

I love the hypocrisy here. The Raiders and their fans want to promote this image as being the meanest and nastiest around but as soon as they are called out on it they take the role of a victim and claim they are being stereotyped unfairly.

If the Raider nation doesn’t want to be though of as criminals, low lifes, gangstas and losers than stop posing like you are.

In Trent Green's Press Conference today, he said he won't allow any of his friends or family go to the Oakland games, because of safety concerns.
He also "issued caution" to all Chiefs fans who are "willing to brave the elements".
Pretty sad really.

Raider fans are great. Look at it this way they have the worst owner in the league they have an owner that has held them and the city up for ransom several times threatning to move. Too me it's amazing that anyone shows up and puts money into the greedy pockets of Al Davis.

Tell me these don't look like loyal fans.

If I was a Raiders fan, I wouldn't like them, either.

Actually, I think it is pretty funny. Al Davis is such a turd. It is good to see that there actually is some damage in sports that can be irreversible. Leaving the city and going back is such a bad script, only Al Davis could star in it. What a scumbag!

As the Rams, Colts, and Cardinals who all ended up moving

Too me it's amazing that anyone shows up and puts money into the greedy pockets of Al Davis.

Yea he's real greedy. He has the worst stadium in the league generating the worst revenue stream. His Franchise's value took a hit to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars to move back into that dump.

That Mount Davis thing they built is a joke. It cost 2/3rds as much as an entirely new stadium would have at that time.

The ridiculous pricing structure and PSL liscenses that expire after this season were created by the OFMA, a city agency, created to market and sell the tickets.

The City wanted it that way and now they're moaning and groaning about it.

Had Tag's not torpedoed our stadium deal in Irwyndale, we wouldnt be having this problem. Tags wanted to stick an NFC team back in the LA market on our dime in our stadium.

So why the hell didn't he just stay in Los Angeles? Did someone hold a gun to his head and make him return to Oakland? (Actually, forget I asked that. I have seen Raiders fans - someone probably did.) Seriously, I can't believe you defend him.
