The Bengals are one of the best teams in the league. And even the very worst teams in the league can score more than 3 or 6 points. This is not a fluke, the Broncos really do have one of the best defensive units in the league. And there is a reason for it: Mike Nolan was a fantastic defensive coordinator and is once again.

Nope. Just relying on longer term trends and the players and coaches involved.

The Bengals will not be making any noise this season, nor for the forseeable future, so long as Marvin Lewis is the HC.

Just like the Chargers are wasting season after season with Norv Turner, and the Cowboys with Wade Phillips. Neither of those teams will ever win anything so long as the coaches remain, and their current records this early into a new season will neither accentuate nor denounce my feelings either way

Nice couple of wins for the Bengals, no doubt. But if they end up 7-9, will they still be one of the best teams in the league?

It to early to pull stats like this out for both arguments. We havnt beat anyone besides the Bengals yet, and these stats are skewed because one out of the three games these teams have played they scored less than 7 points thanks to the Broncos.

I think what colonelbeef is saying is that the Bengals are bad because he thinks they are bad, and those of us who think he is wrong are wrong because he says so. Nothing wrong with that, he's right that it's early in the season and Marvin Lewis is a terrible coach. I respectfully disagree :-)

Here is something to think about too: the Broncos have allowed the fewest points in the first three games in the Super Bowl era*, 16. The Broncos are certainly not the first team in the Super Bowl era to start a season against two bad teams and one mediocre or good team.

In fact, there have been 1,226 seasons completed in the Super Bowl era and another 32 have been played through the first 3 games this year (or will have been by tomorrow night). That's 1,258 seasons, and the Broncos have allowed the fewest points in the first 3 games in any of them. The fact that the defense has done so outstandingly well really does mean something.

* The Super Bowl era caveat is very important. In 1932, the eventual champion Chicago Bears began the season pitching three consecutive shutouts. Unfortunately for the Bears, they also failed to score in any of their first FOUR games. The fourth game was a 2-0 loss to the Packers at Wrigley Field.

I don't think he'll be so quick to run off because of how things went in San Francisco. Nolan may be one of those guys who is a fantastic assistant but not a head coaching type (think Buddy Ryan or Leo Mazzone), and maybe he realizes that now.

Look. I like Carson Palmer a lot, I like 85 a lot, and Marvin Lewis has had an awful lot of bad characters to deal with on that team over the years, not to mention the Palmer injury which in effect completely derailed that team.

I don't like the defense, and I don't like the supporting cast of players. Add that to Lewis, and I just don't think it is a recipe for championship football.

8-8 in a tough division? Maybe. As good as the Giants and capable of winning a Super Bowl? Not even close.

Nobody should feel bad about wins against garbage teams, they count just as much in the standings. The Pats fed off of the Dolphins and Jets for years, nobody felt badly for those wins either.

Hey, Palmer is an excellent QB, and their O seems to be clicking. Of the 3 wins, shutting down that squad definitely looks the best on retrospectively, even if they did look a little out of sync, 85 in particular

Like others have stated, a real test comes next week. Now, if they hold Dallas without a TD, then this defense is headed to be considered the best in the NFL. And I find it even more remarkable in that, if Nolan was asked and was honest, he'd admit they really don't have all the pieces up front he'd like to have at this point in time. But what great coaches do, they find a way to make it work with what they have anyway.

This D is looking very good. Nolan was a great pickup. The team did a good job using FA to get good defensive players. It looks like all the money Bowlen throws around every offseason won't be wasted as much anymore. They have proven that they are good. I still think they have yet to face a real test to see if they are really good. Either way, this defense is a huge improvement over last year and should only get better.

If we keep this up past our meeting with Dallas, we can put the capital D in defense. I can see it now "Denver Broncos Defense." Looks better than the _enver broncos _efense of last year.
