Saw this on Sacco's twitter page. Pryce took out an ad in the Denver Post to thank the Broncos fans that voted him on to the 50th Anniversary team. Very cool of him to do:

Cant believe some wanted him gone when he left but we always had trouble finding a replacement to nail the QB or find one and then let them go. Very nice for Trevor to do that as I havent heard from any others doing a Thank you in public.

I have a love--hate outlook with todays NFL with salary cap. It was difficult for Shanny to keep D Line players like Pryce, Bertrand Berry etc b/c of cap issues.

Mostly because he had other players he wanted to keep, or had dead cap money because of poor FA decisions and high draft picks.

You know he gave all that jack to Gardner in what 2004? Pryce gone after 2005. Hmmm me thinks I know why we couldn't keep pryce maybe?

That was a defense killing move. You give a ton of money to a bust FA. Then the next yr not have the money for your best defensive player?

Hindsight a killer on that one. Even I remember saying maybe he wasn't worth the cash anymore. Man did he prove everyone wrong, he's a great football player.

just add it to the other stupid moves he made that led to his firing.

i still want to kick him in the nuts for letting Sharpe walk in 2000.

Pryce and Simon Fletcher, 2 very overlooked broncos.

Has Fletcher been added to the ROF? I think he's the leader in team sacks.

Pretty cool. Excellent player, and his departure ended up hurting more than originally thought

I know...I was thinking about that when Reggie Hayward got hurt for the Jags a few weeks ago. Can you imagine our d-line if we had Pryce, Berry & Hayward on our team for the last 5 years? Not bad, IMHO.

IIRC, if Pryce would have stayed, he would have counted as 1/10th of the total salary cap. And I don't think he wanted to renegotiate. Plus he'd had back surgery just the year before and there was some questions about how productive he'd be for the next few years.

As for being on the 50th anniv team, I guess he deserves it. Den had a lot of good DL guys over the years, but Pryce was right up there with them.

And it was a very nice gesture for him to make to thank the fans.

Ya, I've thought the same many times. Berry had a good playoffs last year, his play certainly helped the Cards along to an NFC Championship.

Again, that was a nice gesture for Pryce to make. And it was certainly a great honor for him to make the 50th Anniversary team.

Hayward has been hurt and played largely like crap since he left.

Berry had a good year to year and a half after he left. Hurt 90% of the rest of the time.

Ask either team that picked them up and they'd tell you off the record that they haven't lived up to the $ they put out to sign them.

Pryce needed the change of scenery to revamp his career. He was mediocre at best the last year or two with Denver. Certainly didn't hurt that he also became surrounded by significantly more talent and couldn't be double teamed all the time.

I agree with what you said. Hypothetically, some of those injuries might not have happened if they stayed in Denver. OTOH, hypotetically speaking, they might have suffered career-ending injuries if they stayed in Denver. Who knows?

If all 3 guys stayed healthy and were on the same line, our defense would have been pretty good, that's all.

Some of you guys have such a short term memory. Yeah Pryce went on to prove that he had stuff left in the tank but lets not for get that in 04 he got hurt then in 05 he struggled. I believe that Denver wanted to keep him but not at the dollar amount he was going to make. He by far and away was one of the best DT's Denver has ever had but when he moved to DE his price went way up and his production didn't match his cap number. I wish he was still here as well but as a DT not a DE.

This. I remember no one thought his production matched his asking price at the time. He could have gone on to be productive here but there is the possibility that he got good again because he is now on a much more talented D. As of now, I do think it was a mistake. I won't say Shanny was dumb for letting him go though as EVERYONE thought it needed to happen at the time.
