Sooooo who determines what good journalism is? Hmmmmmmmmm and is this just another step to goverment controlled media.

The president said he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.

"I haven't seen detailed proposals yet, but I'll be happy to look at them," Obama told the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Toledo Blade in an interview.

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin's Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.

In early May, Gibbs said that while he hadn't asked the president specifically about bailout options for newspapers, "I don't know what, in all honesty, government can do about it."

Obama said that good journalism is "critical to the health of our democracy," but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting -- especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his campaign emerged during the presidential election.

"I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding," he said.

That's easy. You just push Fox off to one side... and everything left is journalism. ;D

That statement says so much about this guy. Considering the blogosphere is breaking more and more stories and scooping the mainstream print media at every turn, he may want to take an honest look at what 'good journalism' is these days. Not that a President of the US should have an opinion on the 'quality of journalism' in America. If he bails out the print media, they, like GM and Chrysler, become governmental lap dogs, indebted to the government and ripe for even more partisan and propaganda-like reporting on world events.

if it's anything like the vague, inefficient, wasteful, overly complex piece of doo-doo that became the Stimulus and the Omnibus, you can bet Obama will take a look at it. What good does the print media have in our democracy again? How is it relevant these days? Why is nobody buying newspapers anymore and exactly what can government do to stimulate demand in a medium that has no credibility, no trust, and no use by the American people? Throwing money at nostalgia is a bad way to fly. Let 'em fold.

Obama is a baby. He's scared of Fox because they just won't ask him a bunch of softball questions he gets from most media outlets.

I suppose if your neighbor invited you over by saying, "Hey! Come on over here and let me throw some chicken **** at you."

You'd say, "Okay. I'll be right over." :welcome:

The question isn't of ability to dig dirt but also of ethics in presentation of the information. Bloggers don't have anybody to answer to. They can say and do most anything. It doesn't seem like a simple concidence that the rise of bloggers and the increasing us vs. them attitude in this country coincide.

He said he would look at them. He should. That's his job after all. Doesn't mean he'll do anything about it. No real easy answers here.

I can just guess what Fox's first question would be:
"Mr. President, is it true that on the back of your head, right on your hairline, there is a birthmark that reads '666'?"
