Sure, we're all happy and a bit shocked to have won that game. The D played well and deserves all the credit. However...

Orton sucks badly. Can't avoid sacks, and took a horrible one that should have cost us the game. Can't hit a receiver in stride more than 10 yards down the field...probably could have had 1 or 2 touchdowns if our guys didn't have to go to the ground to catch his ball. No zip on any passes, gives the opposing D all day to get to the ball to knock it down.

Even his last pass was a complete joke...right to the Bengals player. If he doesn't hit it up into the air like a moron we lose.

So welcome back to the Griese era folks. Dink, dunk, sack.

Yeah, that was how I comforted myself: if he's throw 2 tds and 2 picks it might have canceled out all the same. Still, looked pretty off most the game.

I think fans should be willing to give him a few games to get comfortable before calling for Simms, but he definitly didn't sell himself that well today.

But did you see that 87 yd TD he threw!

Look, Orton was bad. Like awful. His passes had no zip and he had no arm. Maybe that's because of the glove, but whatever it is it's not very encouraging going forward. That said, the defensive play today mitigates any Orton suck. For today.

Orton threw a beautiful 40 to 50 yarder right into the hands of super WR Marsahall in the first half and it went right through the superstars allmighty million dollar under paid hands. That's one Marshall definately should have had.
Not to mention a nice throw to Scheffler that was dropped and several Stokely should have caught as well.

Even Orton can't catch the balls he throws to the Broncos well paid receivers.

I know Orton is only a stop gap QB and is not the long term answer. McDaniel's know this as well and btwn 2010 and 2012 McD knows he must find develop and groom an heir apparent QB who has the same talent as Brady or Cutler.

That's true, WAY too many drops.

And not NEAR enough Hillis, or Royal for that matter.

Did it seem they FORCED the ball to Marshall some? His number was called tons of times, seems kinda weird.

I see no fire, no urgency, no leadership from Orton ... despite the drops.

Yes, and not just that, but if there is a down side today - it's that Orton kinda secured his starting job. Wouldda been nice to give Simms a shot at home against the Browns in a winnable game.

Biggest problems with Orton besides his physical limitations was poor decision making and leading his receivers into huge hits. That was my big problem with him. Can live with the average arm. Play like that is what got Griese the starting gig back in the day.

The Bungals team hasn't gone through what the Broncos have the past 6 or 7 months and looked pathetic. For all Denver has and continues to go through they were the better prepared team even more so considering Orton was playing with stitches on his throwing hand while wearing a glove. The Bungals have no excuse.

Hopefully Orton gets better and better. But you can't deny, he played like crap for 90% of the game. Yes, WR have to help him out, they dropped like 4-5 passes. That being said, Orton holds onto the ball way, way too long. When you stand in the pocket as long as he does and then still can't make a throw, the oline is gonna get called for holding a lot. Well, guess what happend, oline get called 4 times for holding.

Blame that on Orton.

And what's with his throws right into defenders outstretched hands? He's 6'4" and he's getting passing batted down like a midget in the pocket, why?

He's gotta get better.

He also set up Bmarsh to get demolished on a few throws. You can't do that to your WR's! So not only is he a weak armed midget in the pocket, he got crappy timing too!

You all know I've been nothing but positive this whole offeseason, but Orton has to get better.

Orton threw a couple of downfield passes today so why do we have to virtually ignore the middle zones? He was dreadfull most of the day and I wouldn't mind seeing Tom B in there once we see a few more like this.

you're right, teams DON'T get better from week to week. last i heard, under McD, they get MON/TUE/WED/THU/FRI/SAT off. all they have to do is report to the stadium next Sunday. they did all their practicing and learning back in July.

and who cares how they won. they won. that's all the Win/Loss record accounts for. Cutler threw for 4500 yards last year, but only managed to get 8 wins out of it.

if we have to win every game 56-0 and be leading at halftime 31-0 in order for you to be a happy fan, then i've got a newsflash for you... you're never going to be happy.

sometimes the Broncos lose games they deserved to win. sometimes they win games they deserved to lose. i don't know who deserved to win this game. if Nolan doesn't have them playing a soft zone at the end of the 4th quarter, who's to say the Bungles ever even get a sniff of the endzone. i do know this... the Broncos are 1-0. that's a good enough way to start a season for me.

i hope they get better. hell, i would love to see them win every game 56-0. but i'm not dumb enough to demand that!

I have to agree with this...he did get his receivers lit up some.
but there were also plays that they just dropped some easy catches.

The drops came on both sides so maybe they has sweaty hands.

The one catch that wasn't droppped was the tip to Stokely. right place , righ time..

And if Orton threw it so bad why didn't the DB pick it off .....maybe because the ball was just out of his firm reach? Without that tip Marshall would have probably made a catch and they push him out. From there who knows.

I'll take some lucky.

1-0 and undefeated for now.

Hmmm want to know the difference btw Ryan and Flacco vs Cutler. Yeah they went to the playoffs. See there is this thing called winning and Cutler didn't do it. So its absurd not to listen to a trade that you at least think may have upside. But the trade didn't happen. Cutler needed to get over it.

How was the defense? If you want to play that game ask yourself what kind of team they had to work with. Come on man I know your smarter than that.

No I see your point but you missed mine. McD listened to a trade to see if it would make the team better. The trade didn't happen. Cutler needed to man up and let it go. But that is one of his flaws. But lets not rehash this again.

One day?

Hell no. The widows couldn't enjoy it for 1 minute.

But, we knew this was coming.

It'll come all season.

If we go 16-0, expect this ALL season long.

Oh cry me a freakin river.

This coming from the guy who constantly bitched and whined like a jilted lover about Engelberger, Coyer and the entire DL for years even when they were good enough to get into the playoffs.

If you weren't such an b****, reality would kick you in the ass. How can one person be such a blind homer? A miracle play with less than 30 seconds to win the game? You need to wake up. Bengals lost this game, Broncos did nothing to win.

no---ORTON DID NOTHING TO WIN IT. Our defense and special teams were SPECTACULAR I LOVE seeing Dawkins wearing Orange & Blue--that tackle on #40 Brian Leonard was NASTY!!! He feeds the fire!!! Hopefully, we don't need a miracle next week to overcome Orton's SUCKAGE.

We won on miracle (which was the result of poorly thrown ball) and Orton was extremely bad. It going to be long season if Orton can not improve on his production on 3rd down. Yes there was some drops, but at the same time there were balls that were behind the receivers, or plays left on the field because Orton panicked or didn't make the right read.

And for the holding penalties that going to happen a lot this season because Orton can not move and DC will bring the house up the middle putting center of the line at disadvantage.

No he's not. Any thoughtful fans--Yeah I am calling you out--should be left wondering what if Nolan was made HC when this cutler BS broke out, MCD was given his walking papers and we would have kept Cutler @ QB---We would be talking about 11-12 wins--not hoping for miracle victories b/c our QB mplay has regressed to a sub-Griese level........

To be fair, even though he completely sucked, the WRs did have too many drops and the guy toughed it out with a busted finger/knuckle.

I just hope he can play better when his hands heals up because for the first three quarters that was some of the ugliest QB play I've seen from Denver in a long time.

Not to mention facing 8/9 defenders stacking against the run because Orton's game is so weak. When defenses do that, your QB has got to step up and smack that **** with passes over the top to keep them honest but Orton didn't look to do consistently until he absolutely had to.

You know what the stupidly moronic part of this is? Orton has a passer rating of 100.0 today. If that doesn't put a shotgun to the head of all the idiots that argue that system trumps talent, I don't know what will shake them out of their little dream world.

People can get emo about this being "negative" but the OP is correct.

Orton would be a great backup to a franchise QB for us, but not as a starter.

The only kind of team that he would be a suitable starter in is one where the defense and running game wins (shocker: that was Chicago).

Yes our D was great (so were the tons of dropped passes by Cinci).

I like what I saw from the D... still... Orton... yuck.

He's a stopgap, not the future, and I can't wait till we one day have a Franchise QB again.

The funniest part out of all of this is that it was AGAINST THE BENGALS.

NEWS FLASH!

We have to play Pitt, NYG, Philly, NE, Dallas, Balt etc... we are going against some of the TOP DEFENSES in the NFL this year. Cinci is a middle of road defense (from 12-18).

Biggest problems with Orton besides his physical limitations was poor decision making and leading his receivers into huge hits. That was my big problem with him. Can live with the average arm. Play like that is what got Griese the starting gig back in the day.

A QB hanging their rcvrs out to dry won't garner much respect and trust with his teammates.

Why does there have to be a "window to enjoy" the game? This is a ****ing message board, there's nothing to talk about if we're just like YEAH WE WON THE GAME GUYS CHECK IT OUT I AM GOING TO MAKE ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT HOW WE WON

Analysis is why this place exists. You think Josh McDaniels is going to have a "window" for this game? Are we at a point where actually talking about what happened on the field is a big no no? This place is a joke.

Orton made some HUGE plays down the stretch. If we didn't get a holding penalty on that screen to Buckhalter we wouldn't have needed that Stokely play at the end of the game.

This place is actually pretty cool. It's just some people assume you can't have an immediate critique of your team in the event of a win. Pretty damned silly.

He is bad. He is slightly below average. People have their heads firmly buried in the sand after this game.

Look... this was a crappy Bungles team. And we barely squeaked out a win on a fluke play. Do you really think we have a chance against the 9 teams who are solid playoff contenders down the stretch?

Imo, we should start Simms next week.
