View Full Version : What do you REALLY expect?

I'm curious what folks like Popps and Tony R as well as Rasta and Lex expect to see in a few short hours. Truly, this is an exciting time to be a Bronco fan. Filled with nervousness and excitement and a lot of question marks, I wonder what I should expect. The die hard in me expects a win. My Orange Tinted glasses tell me that I'll see a win with an improved defense and a offense that will be able to punch the ball into the endzone instead of settling for a FG. But I wonder, those who are on the far side of each aisle, what do you expect?

Lex- Do you expect a loss and what will you come back and say if we win? Same thing for you Rasta.

Popps and Tony, what will you say if we get our butts handed to us and it looks like we don't belong?

I realize it is game one, but we'll learn a lot about our team today. I personally believe we'll win and I think that this Bengals team is a lot better than people think. If we can shut down this offense or create a few turnovers, I think it will set the table for a unexpected strong season. And, if we lose I will take from the game what I can knowing that this (Bengals) team is better than many want to give it credit for... as long as we're in the game and competing, I'll be happy. You?

I expect a struggle especial on offense, where Bengals will load the box and force Orton to throw. I expect that defense will look good on some drives and confused on others. In the end I think that Larson, A Smith or Woodyard will make a play on special teams that will give Denver opportunity to win.

Players that will look good

Marshall and Royal
DJ
Larson and Woodyard

Player that will feel the wrath of the mane
Orton
Jordon
Prater

I expect:

A team that doesn't lose tempo and and heart as the game wears on.
Vastly superior special teams play.
Significantly better defensive play, especially in the secondary.
An offense that turns drives into 6, not settling for 3 or red zone turnovers.

That is what I expect over the course of the season. For today?

Champ will get beat on at least one big play to Ochocinco, otherwise he'll be his usual solid self. People will cite it as proof that Champ is in decline.

Tony Scheffler and Daniel Graham will have a big day. Rey Maualuga is the starting SOLB for the Bengals and one of the primary knocks against him coming out of college was weak man cover skills. Our pair of TEs are not a good matchup for a rookie with weak man cover skills.

Marshall will make some big plays, Royal will be generally more productive.

Hillis sees the most touches (run and pass combined) of all the backs.

Elvis Dumervil looks like a natural born 3-4 OLB, causing significant QB pressure.

Our OL will represent very well. The Bengals' OL will not. Our DL looks deceptively good against a weak OL and winning the trench battles leads to us winning the game.

The Homer in me expects a win.

The realist in me says that a close loss is probable, and like you I think the Bengals will be better than most expect....unfortunately , in their division that may not translate to the playoffs.

If we don't look like we belong I will be disappointed.

Denver will win this game going away. It will be a good start in a season that will have lots of highs and lows.

Consistency will be the biggest challenges for the 2009 Broncos.

Teams don't have any tape on McD's offense nor our new 3-4. Advantage Denver in the first week. We have no identity yet the first four games will help define our team for '09.

I think it's imperative to be 2-1 heading into the brutal part of of schedule otherwise it could go down hill quickly with Dal,NE,SDx2,WAH,Pitt,Balt,NYG

That's a brutal stretch starting in week 4.

I expect to see a Bronco win... REALLY.

How the W is accomplished is not that important with the exception of an empty and meaningless win by way of a poor official game changing judgement call.

I agree that the Bengals can't know exactly what to expect....

But neither do we. I'm hoping McD WAS keeping the playbook under wraps
for most of the pre-season. But two of our weapons haven't had much practice time and one is a rookie RB. Our starting QB will be playing hurt.

I do know that if we don't throw down field SOME (much more than the PS games) we will have a hard time sustaining drives enough to score much, as the secondary and lb's will not honor the pass game much. Which screws our run game.

The broncos are a mystery right now....

I expect that they have tape on NE plus the preseason give an idea what Denver wants to do this season. We have the advantage because of the lack of tape but it not as complete as most folks believe.

I think were gonna see a 6 point game that will be in the twenties. I think Cincy will try to load the box and get burned by screens and dink passes to Royal. I think Marshall will have atleast one play of twenty plus yards. Prater will prolly have the opportunity at a 50+ yarder(will make it). I see Cincy getting a big play for a score outta their offense, due to our aggresiveness, but we will get to Carson quite a bit today. Our running game will look average, until the second half when cincy quits loading the box due to screen success. We will see two turnovers for each team. The game will be won by our special teams play(field postion), which will be nice to see for once. Just my opinion though.

GO BRONCOS!!

The NFL is all about matchups. How are we going to use BMarsh and Moreno? Who knows I doubt Cincy doesn't
Cincy has no idea and will have to make more in game adjustments than Denver. I can say with certainity Nolan know exactly what Cincy will bring to the table

I do believe Denver has the advantage in gameplanning but the players still have to execute

Again this game will not dictate anything about our season

I expect to win 10 games this year, so this game represents a big opportunity in accomplishing that. Furthermore, I will be interested in the play calling, especially inside the 20. This game should tell us if the team is going to be as pass happy as it has seemed in the preseason. Many have attributed it to ironing out the passing game.

Man... not exactly what I expected. I thought we would at least be good in the running game. But, teams are stacking the box and making us throw, and we can't do that too well.

I think the pass to Scheff sums up the game perfectly. Throw that ball on the money and he runs in for a long TD, as it was we had to settle for a first down on a poor throw.

We had a bunch of drops so the passing game is probably a little better than we saw today, but then again the Bengals had a ton of drops as well which means they're probably a bit better too (and along with that our defense isn't quite as good as the score indicates... but, they're light years better than last year.)

Knowshon had one good run and then thought he was "Batman" after the hit Rey put on him.

Buckhalter looked outstanding... should have stayed with him.

Scheff and Graham did quite well.

Marshall was sloppy... very rusty.

Eddie Royal didn't look good but didn't have his number called too many times either.

OLine looked slightly above average by and large save for a few great pass protection series.

Orton is horrible. Besides throwing a poor ball he stares his receivers down. I mean, he didn't look at a different receiver other than the one he threw to for the first four or five series. If that game was in Denver, he might have been booed.

Hillis needs to be more involved. I've tried telling people that Jordan would have a bigger role... and he does. That should change.

On defense, I thought Champ and Alphonso played beautiful football. Ayers looked lost early on, but settled in nicely. I don't think we're going to get much from him this year... he is a project.

C- overall grade.

STs- Poor for a grade of a D.
Offense- Very average. But, they ran the ball well at times and found some plays. C-
Defense- Very promising game. I consider the Bengals a top tier offense. Perhaps not as good as NO, NE, or GB... but Chargers like. We stopped them. B+
